Multigap RPC time resolution to 511 keV annihilation photons

The time resolution of Multigap Resistive Plate Counters (MRPCs) to 511511 keV gamma rays has been investigated using a 22^{22}Na source and four detectors. The MRPCs time resolution has been derived from the Time-of-Flight information, measured from pairs of space correlated triggered events. A GEANT4 simulation has been performed to analyze possible setup contributions and to support experimental results. A time resolution (FWHM) of 376376 ps and 312312 ps has been measured for a single MRPC with four 250250 μ\mum gas gaps by considering respectively one and two independent pairs of detectors.Comment: 25 pages, 14 figure

Enzymatic colorimetric method for the determination of inorganic phosphorus in serum and urine.

The performance of an enzymatic colorimetric method for the determination of inorganic phosphorus in serum and urine is described. Phosphate ions react with inosine in the presence of purine nucleoside phosphorylase to form hypoxanthine; this is oxidized by xanthine oxidase to uric acid with production of hydrogen peroxide. The latter is determined with the aid of the chromogen system peroxidase/4-aminophenazone/N-ethyl-N-(3-methylphenyl)-N'-acetyl- ethylenediamine, the coloured product being measured at 555 nm. This series of reactions is completed in 5 min at 37\ub0C. The test is linear up to 240 mg/l. Analytical recovery in serum averaged 101.2 \ub1 1.2% and in urine 101.9 \ub1 3.2%. Within-run and between-run precision studies in serum and urine samples gave CVs 64 4.54% (at 22.0 mg/l). Results obtained by this method agree (r = 65 0.983) with the molybdate UV and molybdenum blue methods. Interference by endogenous substances, including organic phosphate, was negligible

Creating the cultures of the future: cultural strategy, policy and institutions in Gramsci. Part three: Is there a theory of cultural policy in Gramsci’s prison notebooks?

In this article, I argue that Gramsci’s prison notes on questions of cultural strategy, policy and institutions, which have so far been largely overlooked by scholars, provide further analytical insights to those offered by his more general concepts. Together they enrich the theoretical underpinnings for critical frameworks of analysis as well as for radical practices of cultural strategy, cultural policy-making and cultural organisation. On the basis of a detailed analysis of these notes, I then answer the question of whether they amount to a theory of cultural policy

Experimental results on RPC neutron sensitivity

    Get PDF
Abstract RPC neutron sensitivity has been studied during two tests done with different neutrons energies. In the first test, neutrons from spontaneous fission events of 252 Cf were used (average energy 2 MeV ); while in the second test neutrons were produced using a 50 MeV deuteron beam on a 1 cm thick beryllium target (average energy 20 MeV ). Preliminary results show that the neutron sensitivity in double gap mode is (0.52±0.03)×10−3 at about 2 MeV and (5.3±0.5)×10−3 at about 20 MeV
