A Basin-Specific Characterization of the Subsurface Geology of Potential Reservoir Locations in George County, Mississippi
The preliminary assessment for reservoir sites in George County targeted three basins within the county as the initial focus of the research study: Big Creek, Big Cedar Creek, and Escatawpa River basins. As a portion of the reservoir study, this study was a basin-specific geological assessment of the three basins within George County through literature review, well log correlation, and a county wide spring inventory. The goal of this study was to obtain and interpret subsurface data in order to develop detailed geologic maps and stratigraphic cross sections which aided in the site assessment and characterization of the geologic and hydro-geologic suitability of potential reservoir sites. This study concluded that the hypothesis was proved and all three selected drainage basins were potentially geologically suitable to sustain a large reservoir, therefor other factors should be taken into account to determine specific reservoir location such as stream discharge and water quality
Variational Mass Perturbation Theory for Light-Front Bound-State Equations
We investigate the mesonic light-front bound-state equations of the 't Hooft
and Schwinger model in the two-particle, i.e. valence sector, for small fermion
mass. We perform a high precision determination of the mass and light-cone wave
function of the lowest lying meson by combining fermion mass perturbation
theory with a variational approach. All calculations are done entirely in the
fermionic representation without using any bosonization scheme. In a
step-by-step procedure we enlarge the space of variational parameters. For the
first two steps, the results are obtained analytically. Beyond that we use
computer algebraic and numerical methods. We achieve good convergence so that
the calculation of the meson mass squared can be extended to third order in the
fermion mass. Within the numerical treatment we include higher Fock states up
to six particles. Our results are consistent with all previous numerical
investigations, in particular lattice calculations. For the massive Schwinger
model, we find a small discrepancy (less than 2 percent) in comparison with
known bosonization results. Possible resolutions of this discrepancy are
discussed.Comment: some points clarified, representation straightened, to appear in

Higgs After the Discovery: A Status Report
Recently, the ATLAS and CMS collaborations have announced the discovery of a
125 GeV particle, commensurable with the Higgs boson. We analyze the 2011 and
2012 LHC and Tevatron Higgs data in the context of simplified new physics
models, paying close attention to models which can enhance the diphoton rate
and allow for a natural weak-scale theory. Combining the available LHC and
Tevatron data in the ZZ* 4-lepton, WW* 2-lepton, diphoton, and b-bbar channels,
we derive constraints on the effective low-energy theory of the Higgs boson. We
map several simplified scenarios to the effective theory, capturing numerous
new physics models such as supersymmetry, composite Higgs, dilaton. We further
study models with extended Higgs sectors which can naturally enhance the
diphoton rate. We find that the current Higgs data are consistent with the
Standard Model Higgs boson and, consequently, the parameter space in all models
which go beyond the Standard Model is highly constrained.Comment: 37 pages; v2: ATLAS dijet-tag diphoton channel added, dilaton and

Limits on scalar leptoquark interactions and consequences for GUTs
A colored weak singlet scalar state with hypercharge 4/3 is one of the
possible candidates for the explanation of the unexpectedly large
forward-backward asymmetry in t tbar production as measured by the CDF and D0
experiments. We investigate the role of this state in a plethora of flavor
changing neutral current processes and precision observables of down-quarks and
charged leptons. Our analysis includes tree- and loop-level mediated
observables in the K and B systems, the charged lepton sector, as well as the Z
to b bbar decay width. We perform a global fit of the relevant scalar
couplings. This approach can explain the (g-2)_mu anomaly while tensions among
the CP violating observables in the quark sector, most notably the nonstandard
CP phase (and width difference) in the Bs system cannot be fully relaxed. The
results are interpreted in a class of grand unified models which allow for a
light colored scalar with a mass below 1TeV. We find that the renormalizable
SU(5) scenario is not compatible with our global fit, while in the SO(10) case
the viability requires the presence of both the 126- and 120-dimensional
representations.Comment: 26 pages, 7 figures; version as publishe
Dose-Dependent Associations of Dietary Glycemic Index, Glycemic Load, and Fiber With 3-Year Weight Loss Maintenance and Glycemic Status in a High-Risk Population : A Secondary Analysis of the Diabetes Prevention Study PREVIEW
OBJECTIVE To examine longitudinal and dose-dependent associations of dietary glycemic index (GI), glycemic load (GL), and fiber with body weight and glycemic status during 3-year weight loss maintenance (WLM) in adults at high risk of type 2 diabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS In this secondary analysis we used pooled data from the PREVention of diabetes through lifestyle Intervention and population studies in Europe and around the World (PREVIEW) randomized controlled trial, which was designed to test the effects of four diet and physical activity interventions. A total of 1,279 participants with overweight or obesity (age 25-70 years and BMI >= 25 kg . m(-2)) and prediabetes at baseline were included. We used multiadjusted linear mixed models with repeated measurements to assess longitudinal and dose-dependent associations by merging the participants into one group and dividing them into GI, GL, and fiber tertiles, respectively. RESULTS In the available-case analysis, each 10-unit increment in GI was associated with a greater regain of weight (0.46 kg . year(-1); 95% CI 0.23, 0.68; P < 0.001) and increase in HbA(1c). Each 20-unit increment in GL was associated with a greater regain of weight (0.49 kg . year(-1); 0.24, 0.75; P < 0.001) and increase in HbA(1c). The associations of GI and GL with HbA(1c) were independent of weight change. Compared with those in the lowest tertiles, participants in the highest GI and GL tertiles had significantly greater weight regain and increases in HbA(1c). Fiber was inversely associated with increases in waist circumference, but the associations with weight regain and glycemic status did not remain robust in different analyses. CONCLUSIONS Dietary GI and GL were positively associated with weight regain and deteriorating glycemic status. Stronger evidence on the role of fiber is needed.Peer reviewe
JUNO Conceptual Design Report
The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is proposed to determine
the neutrino mass hierarchy using an underground liquid scintillator detector.
It is located 53 km away from both Yangjiang and Taishan Nuclear Power Plants
in Guangdong, China. The experimental hall, spanning more than 50 meters, is
under a granite mountain of over 700 m overburden. Within six years of running,
the detection of reactor antineutrinos can resolve the neutrino mass hierarchy
at a confidence level of 3-4, and determine neutrino oscillation
parameters , , and to
an accuracy of better than 1%. The JUNO detector can be also used to study
terrestrial and extra-terrestrial neutrinos and new physics beyond the Standard
Model. The central detector contains 20,000 tons liquid scintillator with an
acrylic sphere of 35 m in diameter. 17,000 508-mm diameter PMTs with high
quantum efficiency provide 75% optical coverage. The current choice of
the liquid scintillator is: linear alkyl benzene (LAB) as the solvent, plus PPO
as the scintillation fluor and a wavelength-shifter (Bis-MSB). The number of
detected photoelectrons per MeV is larger than 1,100 and the energy resolution
is expected to be 3% at 1 MeV. The calibration system is designed to deploy
multiple sources to cover the entire energy range of reactor antineutrinos, and
to achieve a full-volume position coverage inside the detector. The veto system
is used for muon detection, muon induced background study and reduction. It
consists of a Water Cherenkov detector and a Top Tracker system. The readout
system, the detector control system and the offline system insure efficient and
stable data acquisition and processing.Comment: 328 pages, 211 figure
Search for direct stau production in events with two hadronic tau-leptons in root s=13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector
A search for the direct production of the supersymmetric partners ofτ-leptons (staus) in final stateswith two hadronically decayingτ-leptons is presented. The analysis uses a dataset of pp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of139fb−1, recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LargeHadron Collider at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. No significant deviation from the expected StandardModel background is observed. Limits are derived in scenarios of direct production of stau pairs with eachstau decaying into the stable lightest neutralino and oneτ-lepton in simplified models where the two staumass eigenstates are degenerate. Stau masses from 120 GeV to 390 GeV are excluded at 95% confidencelevel for a massless lightest neutralino
