Recovery and valorisation of ancient varieties grown in high-altitude vineyards of the Spanish Pyrenees
O libro completo pĂłdese descargar aquĂ: https://dialnet.unirioja.es/servlet/articulo?codigo=8455113[Abstract:] This project aims to recover ancient grapevine varieties in the Biescas area (Huesca, Spanish Pyrenees), after studying its molecular profile and agricultural and oenological potentials. The molecular analysis will be performed with eight microsatellites markers with high discriminant power and the profiles will be checked in national and international databases to determine the varietal identity. The oenological aptitude of these varieties will be evaluated with micro and standard vinifications carried out in Bal Minuta Cellar. To expand the commercial vineyard, a new plantation is planned in a currently abandoned field located near the recovered village of Barbenuta. Due to the mountainous climatic conditions, the high slope gradient of the field and the characteristics of the drainage area, the processes of water soil erosion and hydrological connectivity (HC) will be studied by means of field assessments and numerical modelling. The aggregated index of HC (AIC) will be run before and after plantation establishment. In this landscape, the abandoned and recovered fields are intermingled with patches of forestry areas where high walls and stone walls are frequent and influence on the runoff pathways. This initiative aims to recover abandoned fields, to identify ancient varieties and to valorise the potential of these varieties cultivated in vineyards located around 1200 m a.s.l. The achievement of these goals will allow a better transfer to the sector of the wines coming out of high altitude and will be of interest for the sustainability of the local economy. The project âRecovery and valorisation of old mountain vine varieties (Tierra de Biescas - Huesca)â has the support of (i) the Government of Aragon (Spain) through aid for cooperation actions of agents of the agricultural sector (Rural Development Program 2014-2020), and (ii) the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD - FEADER). Preliminary results will be presented during the Congress
Mitochondrial cristae-remodeling protein OPA1 in POMC neurons couples Ca2+ homeostasis with adipose tissue lipolysis
© 2021 The Authors.Appropriate cristae remodeling is a determinant of mitochondrial function and bioenergetics and thus represents a crucial process for cellular metabolic adaptations. Here, we show that mitochondrial cristae architecture and expression of the master cristae-remodeling protein OPA1 in proopiomelanocortin (POMC) neurons, which are key metabolic sensors implicated in energy balance control, is affected by fluctuations in nutrient availability. Genetic inactivation of OPA1 in POMC neurons causes dramatic alterations in cristae topology, mitochondrial Ca2+ handling, reduction in alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH) in target areas, hyperphagia, and attenuated white adipose tissue (WAT) lipolysis resulting in obesity. Pharmacological blockade of mitochondrial Ca2+ influx restores α-MSH and the lipolytic program, while improving the metabolic defects of mutant mice. Chemogenetic manipulation of POMC neurons confirms a role in lipolysis control. Our results unveil a novel axis that connects OPA1 in POMC neurons with mitochondrial cristae, Ca2+ homeostasis, and WAT lipolysis in the regulation of energy balance. This work was supported by Agencia Estatal de InvestigaciĂłn y Fondo Social Europeo, Proyecto BFU2016-76973-R FEDER (C.V.A.); AG052005, AG052986, AG051459, DK111178 from NIH and NKFI-KKP-126998 from Hungarian National Research, Development and Innovation Office (T.L.H.); MR/P009824/2 from Medical Research Council UK (G.D.); and Ayudas FundaciĂłn BBVA a Investigadores y Creadores Culturales (2015), European Research Council (ERC) under the European Unionâs Horizon 2020 Research And Innovation Program (grant agreement 725004) and CERCA Programme/Generalitat de Catalunya (M.C.). Search for flavour-changing neutral current top quark decays t â Hq in pp collisions at âs=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector
A search for flavour-changing neutral current decays of a top quark to an uptype quark (q = u, c) and the Standard Model Higgs boson, where the Higgs boson decays to bbÂŻ, is presented. The analysis searches for top quark pair events in which one top quark decays to Wb, with the W boson decaying leptonically, and the other top quark decays to Hq. The search is based on pp collisions at âs=8 TeV recorded in 2012 with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider and uses an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fbâ1. Data are analysed in the lepton-plus-jets final state, characterised by an isolated electron or muon and at least four jets. The search exploits the high multiplicity of b-quark jets characteristic of signal events, and employs a likelihood discriminant that uses the kinematic differences between the signal and the background, which is dominated by ttÂŻâWbWb decays. No significant excess of events above the background expectation is found, and observed (expected) 95% CL upper limits of 0.56% (0.42%) and 0.61% (0.64%) are derived for the t â Hc and t â Hu branching ratios respectively. The combination of this search with other ATLAS searches in the H â γγ and H â WW*, ÏÏ decay modes significantly improves the sensitivity, yielding observed (expected) 95% CL upper limits on the t â Hc and t â Hu branching ratios of 0.46% (0.25%) and 0.45% (0.29%) respectively. The corresponding combined observed (expected) upper limits on the |λtcH| and |λtuH| couplings are 0.13 (0.10) and 0.13 (0.10) respectively. These are the most restrictive direct bounds on tqH interactions measured so far

Dietary αâLinolenic Acid, Marine Ïâ3 Fatty Acids, and Mortality in a Population With High Fish Consumption: Findings From the PREvenciĂłn con DIeta MEDiterrĂĄnea (PREDIMED) Study
Background: Epidemiological evidence suggests a cardioprotective role of αâlinolenic acid (ALA), a plantâderived Ïâ3 fatty acid. It is unclear whether ALA is beneficial in a background of high marine Ïâ3 fatty acids (longâchain nâ3 polyunsaturated fatty acids) intake. In persons at high cardiovascular risk from Spain, a country in which fish consumption is customarily high, we investigated whether meeting the International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids recommendation for dietary ALA (0.7% of total energy) at baseline was related to allâcause and cardiovascular disease mortality. We also examined the effect of meeting the society's recommendation for longâchain nâ3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (â„500 mg/day). Methods and Results: We longitudinally evaluated 7202 participants in the PREvenciĂłn con DIeta MEDiterrĂĄnea (PREDIMED) trial. Multivariableâadjusted Cox regression models were fitted to estimate hazard ratios. ALA intake correlated to walnut consumption (r=0.94). During a 5.9ây followâup, 431 deaths occurred (104 cardiovascular disease, 55 coronary heart disease, 32 sudden cardiac death, 25 stroke). The hazard ratios for meeting ALA recommendation (n=1615, 22.4%) were 0.72 (95% CI 0.56â0.92) for allâcause mortality and 0.95 (95% CI 0.58â1.57) for fatal cardiovascular disease. The hazard ratios for meeting the recommendation for longâchain nâ3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n=5452, 75.7%) were 0.84 (95% CI 0.67â1.05) for allâcause mortality, 0.61 (95% CI 0.39â0.96) for fatal cardiovascular disease, 0.54 (95% CI 0.29â0.99) for fatal coronary heart disease, and 0.49 (95% CI 0.22â1.01) for sudden cardiac death. The highest reduction in allâcause mortality occurred in participants meeting both recommendations (hazard ratio 0.63 [95% CI 0.45â0.87]). Conclusions: In participants without prior cardiovascular disease and high fish consumption, dietary ALA, supplied mainly by walnuts and olive oil, relates inversely to allâcause mortality, whereas protection from cardiac mortality is limited to fishâderived longâchain nâ3 polyunsaturated fatty acids.
