The place of VR technologies in UK architectural practice

    Get PDF
Since the year 2000, interactive immersive technology is widely affordable and available across disciplines and in the private domain. This paper presents the results of an original survey amongst the AJ100 (27 February 2018) practices in the UK exploring the use of VR technologies in contemporary architectural practice. It investigates the type and intensity of the use in practices different in size, type but unified by their high ambitions and recognition as the leading practices in the UK. The survey reveals that 52% of the AJ100 practices use VR in their offices. Sixty percent of the VR outputs are 360-degree panoramic images leaving 40% to (Construct UK Ltd) the production of VR walkthrough models. The surveyed practices report an almost balanced split between desktop tethered hardware and mobile devices, whereas large hardware installations i.e. CAVE VR or Space Domes play a subordinate role in their office equipment. It is not surprising that the VR technologies are heavily used in client meetings and for representation purposes, but the study also revealed that the VR has found its way into the genuine design processes within the core design team as well as in coordination activities between stakeholders outside the client related communication, i.e. consultant communication. The findings of the study are based on a response rate of 72% including 13 offices from the top 20 of the AJ100 practices in the UK

Objective. To evaluate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) according to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and Adult Treatment Panel (ATP) III criteria among working East African adults. Design. This cross-sectional study of 1,935 individuals (1,171 men and 764 women) was conducted among working adults in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The study was conducted in accordance with the STEPwise approach of the World Health Organization. Results. According to ATP III and IDF definitions, the overall prevalence of MetS was 12.5% and 17.9%, respectively. Using ATP III criteria, the prevalence of MetS was 10.0% in men and 16.2% in women. Application of the IDF criteria resulted in a MetS prevalence of 14.0% in men and 24.0% in women. The most common MetS components among women were reduced high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) (23.2%) and abdominal obesity (19.6%); whilst reduced HDL-C concentrations (23.4%) and high blood pressure (21.8%) were most common among men. Conclusion. MetS and its individual components are prevalent among an apparently healthy working population in Ethiopia. These findings indicate the need for evidence-based health promotion and disease prevention programs; and more robust efforts directed towards the screening, diagnosis and management of MetS and its components among Ethiopian adults

Gorontalo is one of the main maize producing provinces in Indonesia. This extension aims to increase the selling value of pulut corn so that it is higher. Counseling was conducted in Tambuala Hamlet, Datahu Village, Tibawa District, Gorontalo Regency starting November 16, 2022. This counseling uses primary data, namely data collected through direct interviews with respondents and secondary data obtained from reports sourced from the datahu village office, Tibawa sub-district , Gorontalo district. The counseling participants totaled about 25 people. namely 10 MSME actors, 5 corn-pulp farmers and 10 youth youth organizations. Counseling on the creation of processed corn-pulp corn innovations was carried out by delivering counseling materials to groups of female MSME entrepreneurs and female corn-pulp farmers. Each related partner is given direction by students through counseling. The production aspect is also inseparable from how to pack properly and correctly so that the product can be marketed properly. This packaging aims to make the product look more attractive and follow the current era. This counseling also focuses on digital marketing of products that will be marketed later. Digital marketing also does not only focus on marketing product sales but how participants create advertisements on social media so that products can be known by many peopl

Community structure, diversity and biomass of trees in two forest subtypes of Pekan Forest Reserve, Pahang, Malaysia.

Two one-ha ecological plots representing Kempas-Ramin-Durian and Durian-Nyatoh forest subtypes were established in Compartment 156 and Compartment 200, respectively at Pekan Forest Reserve, Pahang to determine community structure, diversity and biomass of trees. All trees of 10 cm diameter at breast height and above were enumerated in the plots. Results showed that although tree stocking was almost similar in the two forest subtypes, the basal area, volume and total tree biomass were higher in the Kempas-Ramin-Durian subtype. Shannon-Weiner diversity index, H′ obtained in the Durian-Nyatoh subtype was however, significantly higher (p<0.05) than Kempas-Ramin Durian subtype. Morisita's Index of Dispersion (Id) showed a random distribution pattern for both forest subtypes

ADDITION OF AMINO ACIDS TO GRAPE JUICE OF THE MAUZAC VARIETY: EFFECT ON AROMA PRODUCTION DURING ALCOHOLIC FERMENTATION

The wine’s flavor like that of the other fermented drinks is extremely complex. The analyses of the volatile components carried out up to these days reveal the presence of several hundred of substances. In Fact, in the literature, more than 800 flavour compounds have been reported in wines, including higher alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, esters, acids and monoterpenes. The nitrogen composition is claimed by some to be the most important factor influencing the production of aromatic and spoilage compounds. The aim of this work was to describe the effect that the addition of different concentrations of leucine, isoleucine and valine have on the synthesis of aromatic components. The study was conducted on juice of the Mauzac variety. Different amounts of the three amino acids cited were added and their evolution was followed by head space analysis

Development of a remote lab for electrical engineering program

    No full text
A remote lab for electrical engineering experiments has been designed and implemented. This has been intended as a platform that supports existing traditional labs by offering lab experiments that serve some of the student learning outcomes of the program. This offers fully interactive environment to the remote user. A dedicated architecture that meets network security and equipment safety requirements has been implemented. The remote control of the experiment is ensured through the powerful and flexible shared variables engine of LabVIEW. The remote lab has been successfully tested with two sample experiments. The infrastructure may accommodate many more concurrently-running experiments. Full details of the proposed platform are given.Scopu
