Clinical, ultrasonographical and hormonal correlation in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome
Background: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder in women of fertile age. The prevalence, time of onset and severity of clinical presentation vary among different ethnic and racial groups. Though there is significant reproductive, endocrine and metabolic morbidity of PCOS, very little is known about its different modes of presentation in Indian population. It is a cross sectional observational study. The objective To study the correlation between the clinical, ultrasonographical and hormonal features in women diagnosed as PCOS based on the revised diagnostic criteria, 2003.Methods: A cross-sectional study of 74 PCOS women who had oligo ovulatory cycles and polycystic ovarian morphology on ultrasound was done. Data about menstrual history and anthropometric measurements were collected. Clinical observations of acne and hirsutism were made. Transvaginal ultrasonography and biochemical analysis for free testosterone was done.Results: In all, 74 PCOS women were studied and analyzed. The mean age was 24.88±4.03, mean BMI was 25.48 ±3.75 and mean free testosterone was 3.81±4.05. Among the PCOS women 39.8% were hirsute, 10.1% were obese, 2.3% had acne and 38% were hyperandrogenemic. Of the hyperandrogenemic women 61.2% were hirsute, 53.22% were obese and 36.54% had acne. The association between BMI and free testosterone level was statistically significant (p=0.0023). BMI was moderately correlated with hyperandrogenemia (r=0.446). The mean left ovarian volume was higher in obese than in non-obese women, which was statistically significant (p=0.003). The mean left ovarian volume was high in hyperandrogenemic women which was statistically significant (p=0.00034).Conclusions: In the present study it was found that there is association between obesity and free testosterone level which was significant. There was statistically significant association between ovarian volume and obesity. Similarly, there was association between ovarian volume and hyperandrogenemia which was significant. Hirsutism and acne had no association with hyperandrogenemia
Does complimentary information from multispectral imaging improve face presentation attack detection?
Presentation Attack Detection (PAD) has been extensively studied,
particularly in the visible spectrum. With the advancement of sensing
technology beyond the visible range, multispectral imaging has gained
significant attention in this direction. We present PAD based on multispectral
images constructed for eight different presentation artifacts resulted from
three different artifact species. In this work, we introduce Face Presentation
Attack Multispectral (FPAMS) database to demonstrate the significance of
employing multispectral imaging. The goal of this work is to study
complementary information that can be combined in two different ways (image
fusion and score fusion) from multispectral imaging to improve the face PAD.
The experimental evaluation results present an extensive qualitative analysis
of 61650 sample multispectral images collected for bonafide and artifacts. The
PAD based on the score fusion and image fusion method presents superior
performance, demonstrating the significance of employing multispectral imaging

Prospective study of radiological and functional outcomes of humeral mid-shaft fractures by anterior bridge plating technique
Background: The humerus can be considered the most versatile bone in the human body. Can be successfully approached by a variety of methods for fracture fixation including functional bracing, plating (posterior, lateral, and anterior), and intramedullary nailing (antegrade and retrograde). Notably, many humeral fractures can be successfully managed conservatively due to the wide range of acceptability for reduction. Anterior bridge plating (ABP) which utilizes the minimally invasive approach popularly known as the minimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis (MIPPO) technique can be said to be the latest entrant in this list. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy of ABP.
Methods: The study was carried out from July 2020 to July 2022 in DR. D. Y. Patil medical college and hospital, Nerul, Navi Mumbai, involving 32 patients who met the selection criteria and were operated at the tertiary care centre. Informed consent was obtained from all the patients for use of their clinical and imaging data. Ethical committee approval was taken. The assessment of the patients was done based on functional and radiological outcomes periodically.
Results: Majority of patients belongs to age group 18-25 years (46.87%). Majority of side of injury were found right side (65.62%). In most of the cases, the extent of the displacement of fractures were 2-5 cm (71.87).
Conclusions: In conclusion ABP is a very good technique in treating mid-shaft humeral fractures with minimal soft tissue dissection, smaller scars, and early return to overhead activities
Integrated nutrient management for improving crop yields, soil properties, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions
Recently, most agrarian countries have witnessed either declining or stagnant crop yields. Inadequate soil organic matter (SOM) due to the poor physical, chemical, and biological properties of the soil leads to an overall decline in the productivity of farmlands. Therefore, the adoption of integrated nutrient management (INM) practices is vital to revive sustainable soil health without compromising yield potential. Integrated nutrient management is a modified nutrient management technique with multifarious benefits, wherein a combination of all possible sources of plant nutrients is used in a crop nutrition package. Several studies conducted in various parts of the world have demonstrated the benefits of INM in terms of steep gain in soil health and crop yields and at the same time, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other related problems. The INM practice in the cropped fields showed a 1,355% reduction in methane over conventional nutrient management. The increase in crop yields due to the adoption of INM over conventional nutrient management was as high as 1.3% to 66.5% across the major cropping systems. Owing to the integration of organic manure and residue retention in INM, there is a possibility of significant improvement in soil aggregates and microbiota. Furthermore, most studies conducted to determine the impact of INM on soil health indicated a significant increase in overall soil health, with lower bulk density, higher porosity, and water-holding capacity. Overall, practicing INM would enhance soil health and crop productivity, in addition to decreasing environmental pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and production costs
Understanding and conceptualising the adoption, use and diffusion of mobile banking in older adults: A research agenda and conceptual framework
Mobile banking has become increasingly important to society; however, not all members of society adopt and/or use it as much as others: older adults, the disabled and lower-income families remain behind in their use and adoption of this service. This finding helped us recognise a research gap and led us to form our primary aim: to understand and explain the factors that influence the adoption, use and diffusion of mobile banking among one of those groups in particular, older adults, in the UK. To form a theoretical understanding, this paper presents a comprehensive review of the surrounding literature in the area and proposes a conceptual framework that can be used for future research. The implications of this research for academia and businesses are also provided in this paper
Identifying reputation collectors in community question answering (CQA) sites: Exploring the dark side of social media
YesThis research aims to identify users who are posting as well as encouraging others to post low-quality
and duplicate contents on community question answering sites. The good guys called Caretakers and
the bad guys called Reputation Collectors are characterised by their behaviour, answering pattern and
reputation points. The proposed system is developed and analysed over publicly available Stack
Exchange data dump. A graph based methodology is employed to derive the characteristic of
Reputation Collectors and Caretakers. Results reveal that Reputation Collectors are primary sources
of low-quality answers as well as answers to duplicate questions posted on the site. The Caretakers
answer limited questions of challenging nature and fetches maximum reputation against those
questions whereas Reputation Collectors answers have so many low-quality and duplicate questions
to gain the reputation point. We have developed algorithms to identify the Caretakers and Reputation
Collectors of the site. Our analysis finds that 1.05% of Reputation Collectors post 18.88% of low quality answers. This study extends previous research by identifying the Reputation Collectors and 2 how they collect their reputation points
Health, education, and social care provision after diagnosis of childhood visual disability
Aim: To investigate the health, education, and social care provision for children newly diagnosed with visual disability.Method: This was a national prospective study, the British Childhood Visual Impairment and Blindness Study 2 (BCVIS2), ascertaining new diagnoses of visual impairment or severe visual impairment and blindness (SVIBL), or equivalent vi-sion. Data collection was performed by managing clinicians up to 1-year follow-up, and included health and developmental needs, and health, education, and social care provision.Results: BCVIS2 identified 784 children newly diagnosed with visual impairment/SVIBL (313 with visual impairment, 471 with SVIBL). Most children had associated systemic disorders (559 [71%], 167 [54%] with visual impairment, and 392 [84%] with SVIBL). Care from multidisciplinary teams was provided for 549 children (70%). Two-thirds (515) had not received an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP). Fewer children with visual impairment had seen a specialist teacher (SVIBL 35%, visual impairment 28%, χ2p < 0.001), or had an EHCP (11% vs 7%, χ2p < 0 . 01).Interpretation: Families need additional support from managing clinicians to access recommended complex interventions such as the use of multidisciplinary teams and educational support. Effect of preculturing conditions on growth of Lactobacillus rhamnosus on medium containing glucose and citrate
Lactobacillus rhamnosus can metabolize citrate through a citrate inducible transport system. The growth curves of L. rhamnosus on medium containing glucose and citrate was found to be highly dependent on preculturing conditions. It exhibited diauxic growth when precultured on glucose, but demonstrated simultaneous consumption when cultured on citrate. The maximum specific growth rate for cells growing on glucose+citrate was 0.38 h−1, which was higher than the growth rate on individual substrates (0.28 h−1). Simultaneous consumption also yielded higher net flavour compounds, diacetyl and acetoin. Flux analysis indicated that L. rhamnosus requires oxygen for balancing excess NADH through NADH oxidase. The flux analysis provided insights into the metabolic network of L. rhamnosus.© Elsevie
Suprachoroidal hemorrhage after removal of releasable suture with globe massage post-trabeculectomy
A 19-year-old female, having aniridia with secondary glaucoma, presented with uncontrolled intraocular pressure (IOP) in the right eye (RE) on maximal topical and systemic medications. On examination, RE had a subluxated cataractous lens with advanced cupping. She underwent trabeculectomy with mitomycin C. On postoperative day 1, as the IOP was 32 mmHg, one releasable suture was removed followed by gentle bleb massage. On postoperative day 2, suprachoroidal hemorrhage was noted, for which the patient underwent two drainage procedures. Hemorrhagic choroidals resolved completely 4 weeks after drainage
Blood flow pattern in a choroidal hemangioma imaged on swept-source-optical coherence tomography angiography
This report demonstrates the blood flow pattern in a case of choroidal hemangioma (CH) using swept-source-optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA). Fluorescein angiography, SS-OCT, and SS-OCTA images of a patient with CH were obtained using a standard protocol. The internal vascular pattern of the tumor was identified on both OCT and OCTA. Dark areas were identified in the CH. These were interspersed between areas of visible blood flow, as imaged on SS-OCTA. Peripheral vascular arcades were also identified within the tumor. SS-OCTA should be evaluated as an imaging tool to study the blood flow within choroidal tumors
