This historical essay describes Emperor Franz Joseph’s visits to the Czech lands. Both the Monarch’s image and the people’s attitude to his stays in Bohemia and Moravia during his long reign (1848–1916) were prone to change. Following his coronation the young ruler dissolved the Constituent Assembly and returned Austria to Absolute Rule. His popularity declined sharply even though the Czechs supported the Habsburgs during the 1848/49 revolutionary uprising. He was welcomed in Bohemia after his wedding in 1854 but this was fuelled by the hope that the current harsh rule would grow more lenient. Once constitutional rule was reinstated, Czech politicians attempted to entice Franz Joseph to hold his coronation ceremony in Bohemia. In this they did not succeed. During the final decades of his rule the emperor acquired the benign image of an “Old Monarch” and this despite the fact that Czech attachment to the monarchy had weakened considerably over time. Nevertheless the Czech people sincerely liked their Emperor and his visits were always occasions for national celebration. During these visits the aged Monarch would address old war veterans and young children and these meticulously recorded conversations formed an integral part of his official cult

This article deals with the issues of risk mapping using the geographic information system. These issues are described employing a case study conducted in the town of Kyjov. The case study is focused on the principle of risk mapping, which consists of the creation of a vulnerability map, threat map and the resulting risk map. The paper demonstrates the use of spatial risk mapping method for the risk analysis. The case study presented in this article justifies the hypothesis of the suitability of the GIS for the purposes of risk mapping. In addition, the case study carried out in Kyjov maps individual types of vulnerability, in other words the major assets in the territory. Furthermore, the article deals with mapping the threats in this town. On the basis of obtained data and the maps of vulnerability and threats the case study also presents the creation of the resulting risk map. Generally, the article verifies the hypothesis of using the risk mapping method for the needs of risk analysis in municipalities. © 2017, World Scientific and Engineering Academy and Society. 2,6-diaminopurine promotes repair of DNA lesions under prebiotic conditions

    Get PDF
High-yielding and selective prebiotic syntheses of RNA and DNA nucleotides involve UV irradiation to promote the key reaction steps and eradicate biologically irrelevant isomers. While these syntheses were likely enabled by UV-rich prebiotic environment, UV-induced formation of photodamages in polymeric nucleic acids, such as cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs), remains the key unresolved issue for the origins of RNA and DNA on Earth. Here, we demonstrate that substitution of adenine with 2,6-diaminopurine enables repair of CPDs with yields reaching 92%. This substantial self-repairing activity originates from excellent electron donating properties of 2,6-diaminopurine in nucleic acid strands. We also show that the deoxyribonucleosides of 2,6-diaminopurine and adenine can be formed under the same prebiotic conditions. Considering that 2,6-diaminopurine was previously shown to increase the rate of nonenzymatic RNA replication, this nucleobase could have played critical roles in the formation of functional and photostable RNA/DNA oligomers in UV-rich prebiotic environments

New fossiliferous layers of the Březina Formation were discovered in the valley of the Říčka Brook SSW of the village of Ochoz u Brna in 2011. Four taxa of trilobites were preliminary determined: Archegonus (Phillibole) cf. polleni (Woodward, 1894), Archegonus (Phillibole) cf. cauliquercus Brauckmann 1981, Liobole (Liobole) glabra proxima Chlupáč, 1966 and ?Spinibole sp. The newly discovered fossiliferous beds belong to the Viséan (Lower to ?Upper Viséan, approximately cu IIγ–cu IIδ). The occurrence of limestone pebbles and limestone cobbles in aleuropelitic shales was also recorded. The Late Tournaisian foraminifer Darjella monilis Malakhova, 1964 was discovered in a dark grey limestone cobble derived from the Hády-Říčka limestone sequence of the Líšeň Formation.New fossiliferous layers of the Březina Formation were discovered in the valley of the Říčka Brook SSW of the village of Ochoz u Brna in 2011. Řešení problému magnetického indukčního ohřevu metodami vícerozměrných Fredholmových integrálních rovnic: Alternativní přístup k optimalizaci a hodnocení výkonnosti procesu

    No full text
Induction heating is a frequently used technology in both fundamental and applied research. It is heavily exploited in the industry for processing materials by heat treatments. In addition, it is viewed as a promising tool in medicine, particularly as a part of therapeutic strategies for treating cancer diseases. Thus, in order to optimize (i.e., enhance and tune) the performance of the induction heating process, several aspects must be considered, including the design of the magnetic coils, features of the magnetic fields applied, coupling of magnetic and thermal fields, and the material's characteristics. To tackle this complex problem, numerical mathematical models are often used. The results of which can help in understanding the role of the various parameters on the performance of the induction heating. Here, we present an alternative mathematical approach to solve the induction heating problem using Fredholm integral equations of the second kind with a singular kernel. To reduce the computation time, the Nystrom method has been adopted. As the kernel function shows a singularity, a singularity subtraction has been involved in the developed mathematical procedure. Furthermore, the error features of the Nystrom method with the singularity subtraction have been described, and convergence conditions of the proposed computational algorithm have been thoroughly identified. Although special conditions for the kernel function and the integration rule are needed, the method shows lower computing times, competing well with those of traditional finite-element based routines. The applicability of the developed methodology is demonstrated for the simulation of induction heating the body of a metal object. Dále byly popsány chybové vlastnosti Nystromovy metody s odečítáním singularity a byly důkladně identifikovány podmínky konvergence navrženého výpočetního algoritmu.
