Kinks in the Hartree approximation
The topological defects of the lambda phi^4 theory, kink and antikink, are
studied in the Hartree approximation. This allows us to discuss quantum effects
on the defects in both stationary and dynamical systems. The kink mass is
calculated for a number of parameters, and compared to classical, one loop and
Monte Carlo results known from the literature. We discuss the thermalization of
the system after a kink antikink collision. A classical result, the existence
of a critical speed, is rederived and shown for the first time in the quantum
theory. We also use kink antikink collisions as a very simple toy model for
heavy ion collisions and discuss the differences and similarities, for example
in the pressure. Finally, using the Hartree Ensemble Approximation allows us to
study kink antikink nucleation starting from a thermal (Bose Einstein)
distribution. In general our results indicate that on a qualitative level there
are few differences with the classical results, but on a quantitative level

Post-disturbance haulout behaviour of harbour seals
1. The impact of anthropogenic activity associated with the construction of a proposed tidal turbine on harbour seals (Phoca vitulina) was investigated using controlled disturbance trials.2. Trials were conducted by approaching hauled out seals by boat at a speed of five knots until all seals had entered the water. Trials were carried out at a frequency of once every three days when weather permitted and the post disturbance haulout behaviours of the seals were documented. The time taken for numbers to recover to pre-disturbance levels was determined by monitoring haulout sites using time-lapse photography. In addition, seals were tagged with GPS phone tags providing haulout location and at-sea movement data allowing investigation of how disturbance may influence haulout site choice and seal distribution.3. Mean post-disturbance recovery of seals was 52% (95%CI 35-69%) within 30 minutes. However, mean recovery only returned to 94% (95%CI 55-132%) of pre-disturbance levels after four hours.4. Telemetry tagged seals displayed a high degree of haulout site fidelity. Disturbance trials did not have a significant effect on the probability of seals moving to a different haulout site. 5. The results of this study suggest that increased boat activity that causes seals to enter the water at a higher than normal frequency will not cause individuals to relocate to another haulout site. Seals continued to return to the original site despite repeated disturbance trials suggesting that increased boat activity is likely to repeatedly impact on the same seals with the largest effect being to reduce the amount of time available to seals to haul out.6. This study recommends that monitoring effort to mitigate against increased levels of disturbance caused by boat activity need only be on a local scale relative to any proposed development
Coexistence of 'alpha+ 208Pb' cluster structures and single-particle excitations in 212Po
Excited states in 212Po have been populated by alpha transfer using the
208Pb(18O,14C) reaction at 85MeV beam energy and studied with the EUROBALL IV
gamma multidetector array. The level scheme has been extended up to ~ 3.2 MeV
excitation energy from the triple gamma coincidence data. Spin and parity
values of most of the observed states have been assigned from the gamma angular
distributions and gamma -gamma angular correlations. Several gamma lines with
E(gamma) < 1 MeV have been found to be shifted by the Doppler effect, allowing
for the measurements of the associated lifetimes by the DSAM method. The
values, found in the range [0.1-0.6] ps, lead to very enhanced E1 transitions.
All the emitting states, which have non-natural parity values, are discussed in
terms of alpha-208Pb structure. They are in the same excitation-energy range as

Stochastic Production Of Kink-Antikink Pairs In The Presence Of An Oscillating Background
We numerically investigate the production of kink-antikink pairs in a
dimensional field theory subject to white noise and periodic driving.
The twin effects of noise and periodic driving acting in conjunction lead to
considerable enhancement in the kink density compared to the thermal
equilibrium value, for low dissipation coefficients and for a specific range of
frequencies of the oscillating background. The dependence of the kink-density
on the temperature of the heat bath, the amplitude of the oscillating
background and value of the dissipation coefficient is also investigated. An
interesting feature of our result is that kink-antikink production occurs even

A reassessment of Kelmayisaurus petrolicus, a large theropod dinosaur from the Early Cretaceous of China
The Early Cretaceous fossil record of largeâbodied theropods from Asia is poor, hindering comparison of Asian predatory dinosaur faunas with those from other continents. One of the few large Asian theropod specimens from this interval is a partial skull (maxilla and dentary) from the Lianmugin Formation (?ValanginianâAlbian), the holotype of Kelmayisaurus petrolicus. Most authors have either considered this specimen as an indeterminate basal tetanuran or a nomen dubium. Weredescribe K. petrolicus and note that it possesses a single autapomorphy (a deep accessory groove on the lateral surface of the anterior dentary), as well as a unique combination of characters that differentiates it from other theropods, affirming its validity. A phylogenetic analysis recovers K. petrolicus as a basal carcharodontosaurid, which is supported by various features: very deep interdental plates (a carcharodontosaurid synapomorphy), fused interdental plates (present in carchardontosaurids and a limited number of other theropods), and the absence of diagnostic features of other clades of largeâbodied theropods such as abelisaurids, megalosauroids, and coelurosaurs. As such, Kelmayisaurus is the second known carcharodontosaurid from Asia, and further evidence that this clade represented a global radiation of largeâbodied predators during the Earlyâmid Cretaceous
flavour tagging using charm decays at the LHCb experiment
An algorithm is described for tagging the flavour content at production of
neutral mesons in the LHCb experiment. The algorithm exploits the
correlation of the flavour of a meson with the charge of a reconstructed
secondary charm hadron from the decay of the other hadron produced in the
proton-proton collision. Charm hadron candidates are identified in a number of
fully or partially reconstructed Cabibbo-favoured decay modes. The algorithm is
calibrated on the self-tagged decay modes and using of data collected by the LHCb
experiment at centre-of-mass energies of and

Identification of beauty and charm quark jets at LHCb
Identification of jets originating from beauty and charm quarks is important
for measuring Standard Model processes and for searching for new physics. The
performance of algorithms developed to select - and -quark jets is
measured using data recorded by LHCb from proton-proton collisions at
TeV in 2011 and at TeV in 2012. The efficiency for
identifying a jet is about 65%(25%) with a probability for
misidentifying a light-parton jet of 0.3% for jets with transverse momentum
GeV and pseudorapidity . The dependence of
the performance on the and of the jet is also measured
Search for Bâșc decays to the ppâŸÏâș final state
A search for the decays of the B + c meson to pp-Ï + is performed for the first time using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb -1 collected by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. No signal is found and an upper limit, at 95% confidence level, is set, fcfuĂB(B + c âppÏ + ) < 3.6Ă10-8 in the kinematic region m(pp) < 2.85 GeV/c2, p T (B) < 20 GeV/c and 2.0 < y(B) < 4.5, where B is the branching fraction and f c (f u ) is the fragmentation fraction of the b quark into a B c + (B + ) meson
