The objective of this study is to analyze the possible relationship between the degree of flexibility or rigidity of the organizational culture and the use of competitive strategies in the industry of paper, cardboard and pulp in Mexico. Currently the volatile and competitive environment in which firms are inserted forces them to explore on the fundamentals that give sustenance to their organizational culture, and to study the competitive strategies that take to respond to the demands of the market, if they want to remain in them. To achieve this, a questionnaire based on Yeung, Ulrich, Nason and Von Glinow (2000) and Gomez (2008) was applied on a sample of 25 companies across the country, obtaining 420 observations. It was used to culture the focus of Cameron and Quinn (2006) and for the strategy the focus of Porter (1982). A Pearson correlation test was applied to test the hypothesis. We found that the dominant culture is the market and the dominant strategy is cost, and the construct rigid culture better associates to strategies, particularly with the differentiation and that there is evidence of the association between the two variables in the studied industry. The results found no doubt will be useful to managers in industry, and then assist them to rethink their strategies and seek to find an appropriate balance of cultural strengths. For the academic research sector found empirical results are important, because they strengthen the findings of the literature.

    Get PDF

Altres ajuts: Delegación del Gobierno para el Plan Nacional sobre Drogas: 2017I067 i 2019I47Due to the contribution of age to the etiology of gambling disorder (GD), there is a need to assess the moderator effect of the aging process with other features that are highly related with the clinical profile. The objective of this study is to examine the role of the chronological age into the relationships between cognitive biases, impulsivity levels and gambling preference with the GD profile during adulthood. Sample included n = 209 patients aged 18-77 years-old recruited from a Pathological Gambling Outpatients Unit. Orthogonal contrasts explored polynomial patterns in data, and path analysis implemented through structural equation modeling assessed the underlying mechanisms between the study variables. Compared to middle-age patients, younger and older age groups reported more impairing irrational beliefs (P = 0.005 for interpretative control and P = 0.043 for interpretative bias). A linear trend showed that as people get older sensation seeking (P = 0.006) and inability to stop gambling (P = 0.018) increase. Path analysis showed a direct effect between the cognitive bias and measures of gambling severity (standardized effects [SE] between 0.12 and 0.17) and a direct effect between impulsivity levels and cumulated debts due to gambling (SE = 0.22). Screening tools and intervention plans should consider the aging process. Specific programs should be developed for younger and older age groups, since these are highly vulnerable to the consequences of gambling activities and impairment levels of impulsivity and cognitive biases

Measurement of the WW Boson Mass

A measurement of the mass of the WW boson is presented based on a sample of 5982 WeνW \rightarrow e \nu decays observed in ppp\overline{p} collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 1.8~TeV with the D\O\ detector during the 1992--1993 run. From a fit to the transverse mass spectrum, combined with measurements of the ZZ boson mass, the WW boson mass is measured to be MW=80.350±0.140(stat.)±0.165(syst.)±0.160(scale)GeV/c2M_W = 80.350 \pm 0.140 (stat.) \pm 0.165 (syst.) \pm 0.160 (scale) GeV/c^2.Comment: 12 pages, LaTex, style Revtex, including 3 postscript figures (submitted to PRL

Search for a Fourth Generation Charge -1/3 Quark via Flavor Changing Neutral Current Decay

    Get PDF
We report on a search for pair production of a fourth generation charge -1/3 quark (b') in pbar p collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron using an integrated luminosity of 93 pb^-1. Both quarks are assumed to decay via flavor changing neutral currents (FCNC). The search uses the signatures gamma + 3 jets + mu-tag and 2 gamma + 2 jets. We see no significant excess of events over the expected background. We place an upper limit on the production cross section times branching fraction that is well below theoretical expectations for a b' quark decaying exclusively via FCNC for b' quark masses up to m(Z) + m(b).Comment: Eleven pages, two postscript figures, submitted to Physical Review Letter

The Azimuthal Decorrelation of Jets Widely Separated in Rapidity

    Get PDF
This study reports the first measurement of the azimuthal decorrelation between jets with pseudorapidity separation up to five units. The data were accumulated using the D{\O}detector during the 1992--1993 collider run of the Fermilab Tevatron at s=\sqrt{s}= 1.8 TeV. These results are compared to next--to--leading order (NLO) QCD predictions and to two leading--log approximations (LLA) where the leading--log terms are resummed to all orders in αS\alpha_{\scriptscriptstyle S}. The final state jets as predicted by NLO QCD show less azimuthal decorrelation than the data. The parton showering LLA Monte Carlo {\small HERWIG} describes the data well; an analytical LLA prediction based on BFKL resummation shows more decorrelation than the data.Comment: 6 pages with 4 figures, all uuencoded and gzippe

60°N was +2.0°C, relative to the 1981–2010 average value (Fig. 5.1). This marks a new high for the record. The average annual surface air temperature (SAT) anomaly for 2016 for land stations north of starting in 1900, and is a significant increase over the previous highest value of +1.2°C, which was observed in 2007, 2011, and 2015. Average global annual temperatures also showed record values in 2015 and 2016. Currently, the Arctic is warming at more than twice the rate of lower latitudes

The oncolytic virus Delta-24-RGD elicits an antitumor effect in pediatric glioma and DIPG mouse models.

Pediatric high-grade glioma (pHGG) and diffuse intrinsic pontine gliomas (DIPGs) are aggressive pediatric brain tumors in desperate need of a curative treatment. Oncolytic virotherapy is emerging as a solid therapeutic approach. Delta-24-RGD is a replication competent adenovirus engineered to replicate in tumor cells with an aberrant RB pathway. This virus has proven to be safe and effective in adult gliomas. Here we report that the administration of Delta-24-RGD is safe in mice and results in a significant increase in survival in immunodeficient and immunocompetent models of pHGG and DIPGs. Our results show that the Delta-24-RGD antiglioma effect is mediated by the oncolytic effect and the immune response elicited against the tumor. Altogether, our data highlight the potential of this virus as treatment for patients with these tumors. Of clinical significance, these data have led to the start of a phase I/II clinical trial at our institution for newly diagnosed DIPG (NCT03178032)
