    Comunicação e memória em textos de coletivos de teatro feminista no Brasil: Boneca de pano (SC, 2014) e Entre Nós: buzinas, chicotes e åcidos (CE, 2017)

    Although feminist movements began more than a hundred years ago in Brazil, there are still few Brazilian groups that develop dramaturgy written by and for women, even considering amateur theater. We present in this article the analysis of two theatrical texts (or scripts), still unpublished: Boneca de pano, by the Santa Catarina theater collective (Em) Companhia de Mulheres, and Entre NĂłs: buzinas, chicotes e ĂĄcidos, by the CearĂĄ collective Arremate de Teatro. We aim to understand, when comparing these two theatrical narratives, similarities and differences of the themes in question, considering their places of production, as well as their origins. We start from the hypothesis that theatrical narratives written by collectives that consider themselves feminists function as an authorized space for Brazilian women to speak, for the identification and rupture of behaviors inherited from the patriarchal culture. We confirm, based on the theoretical frame of theater, discourse analysis, cultural studies, gender studies and social memory, that the two texts under analysis present themselves as equally potent forms of catharsis, sensitization and resistance to the domestication and oppression to which women are still submitted.Apesar de os movimentos feministas terem se iniciado hĂĄ mais de cem anos no Brasil, ainda sĂŁo poucos os grupos brasileiros que desenvolvem dramaturgia escrita por e para mulheres, ainda que se considere o teatro amador. Apresentamos neste artigo a anĂĄlise de dois textos teatrais (ou roteiros), ainda inĂ©ditos: Boneca de pano, do coletivo de teatro catarinense (Em) Companhia de Mulheres, e Entre NĂłs: buzinas, chicotes e ĂĄcidos, do coletivo cearense Arremate de Teatro. Temos como objetivo compreender, ao compararmos essas duas narrativas teatrais, semelhanças e diferenças dos temas em pauta, considerando seus locais de produção, bem como suas origens. Partimos da hipĂłtese de que narrativas teatrais redigidas por coletivos que se assumem feministas funcionam como um espaço autorizado de fala das brasileiras, de identificação e de ruptura de comportamentos herdados da cultura patriarcal.     A new class of semiclassical wave function uniformizations

    We present a new semiclassical technique which relies on replacing complicated classical manifold structure with simpler manifolds, which are then evaluated by the usual semiclassical rules. Under circumstances where the original manifold structure gives poor or useless results semiclassically the replacement manifolds can yield remarkable accuracy.     An energy- and nutrient-corrected functional unit to compare LCAs of diets

    Dietary choices, a main driver of food production, play a significant role within the climate change arena. Consequently, there is a growing trend on publishing research assessing the environmental impacts of diets and dietary shifts, mainly following the life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology. However, several methodological issues still bring a challenge, especially in the definition of the function and the quantification of the functional unit (FU). The FU is the reference unit of an LCA study, and it is the basis for allowing comparison among different systems. This short communication defines the function of diets as the supply of the daily required amount of calories and nutrients, and it proposes a novel FU that accounts for the energy intake and the nutritional quality of the diet. In order to compare the performance of the proposed FU to the most commonly ones used for diet LCAs (mass-based and isocaloric), dietary scenarios within the Spanish context are assessed. On the one hand, using a mass-based FU, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are underestimated, since the nutrition properties of food are not considered, and, on the other hand, the isocaloric substitution does not allow comparison among diets with different levels of energy intake. In contrast, the proposed caloric- and nutrient-corrected FU allows to compare diets that differ in energy and nutritional quality in a fairer way.     Improved determination of the classical sphaleron transition rate

    We determine the sphaleron transition rate using real time lattice simulations of the classical system. An improved definition of the lattice topological charge allows us to obtain a more reliable estimate of the transition rate. For an SU(2) Yang-Mills-Higgs system in the broken phase we find the transition rate to be strongly suppressed, and we have observed no sphaleron transitions in the range of coupling constants used. For a pure SU(2) Yang-Mills system in large volumes the rate behaves as Îș(αwT)4\kappa (\alpha_w T)^4, with Îș\kappa slightly decreasing as the lattice spacing is reduced. If the lattice size is reduced to about twice the magnetic screening length, the rate is suppressed by finite-size effects, and Îș\kappa is approximately proportional to the lattice spacing. Our rate measurements are supplemented by analysis of gauge field correlation functions in the Coulomb gauge.Comment: 19 pages, LaTeX, 6 (latex) figure

    CT and MRI of Hepatic Abscess in Patients with Chronic Granulomatous Disease

    We describe the spectrum of radiologic appearances of hepatic abscesses in patients with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD), a hereditary immunodeficiency presenting in childhood that occurs at a rate of 1 in 200,000-250,000 live births and predisposes patients to infection with catalase-positive organisms. CONCLUSION: Hepatic abscesses in patients with CGD show an atypical radiologic appearance compared with sporadic hepatic abscesses, and they are characterized by homogeneous enhancement and multiseptal enhancement. In the appropriate clinical setting, the appearance of an enhancing mass should suggest the possibility of a CGD-related hepatic absces

    Human PrimPol is a highly error-prone polymerase regulated by single-stranded DNA binding proteins

    PrimPol is a recently identified polymerase involved in eukaryotic DNA damage tolerance, employed in both re-priming and translesion synthesis mechanisms to bypass nuclear and mitochondrial DNA lesions. In this report, we investigate how the enzymatic activities of human PrimPol are regulated. We show that, unlike other TLS polymerases, PrimPol is not stimulated by PCNA and does not interact with it in vivo. We identify that PrimPol interacts with both of the major single-strand binding proteins, RPA and mtSSB in vivo. Using NMR spectroscopy, we characterize the domains responsible for the PrimPol-RPA interaction, revealing that PrimPol binds directly to the N-terminal domain of RPA70. In contrast to the established role of SSBs in stimulating replicative polymerases, we find that SSBs significantly limit the primase and polymerase activities of PrimPol. To identify the requirement for this regulation, we employed two forward mutation assays to characterize PrimPol's replication fidelity. We find that PrimPol is a mutagenic polymerase, with a unique error specificity that is highly biased towards insertion-deletion errors. Given the error-prone disposition of PrimPol, we propose a mechanism whereby SSBs greatly restrict the contribution of this enzyme to DNA replication at stalled forks, thus reducing the mutagenic potential of PrimPol during genome replication

    Hypoglycemia in Type 1 Diabetic Pregnancy: Role of preconception insulin aspart treatment in a randomized study

    Objective: A recent randomized trial compared prandial insulin aspart (IAsp) with human insulin in type 1 diabetic pregnancy. The aim of this exploratory analysis was to investigate the incidence of severe hypoglycemia during pregnancy and compare women enrolled preconception with women enrolled during early pregnancy. Research design and methods: IAsp administered immediately before each meal was compared with human insulin administered 30 min before each meal in 99 subjects (44 to IAsp and 55 to human insulin) randomly assigned preconception and in 223 subjects (113 for IAsp and 110 for human insulin) randomly assigned in early pregnancy (<10 weeks). NPH insulin was the basal insulin. Severe hypoglycemia (requiring third-party assistance) was recorded prospectively preconception (where possible), during pregnancy, and postpartum. Relative risk (RR) of severe hypoglycemia was evaluated with a gamma frailty model. Results: Of the patients, 23% experienced severe hypoglycemia during pregnancy with the peak incidence in early pregnancy. In the first half of pregnancy, the RR of severe hypoglycemia in women randomly assigned in early pregnancy/preconception was 1.70 (95% CI 0.91–3.18, P = 0.097); the RR in the second half of pregnancy was 1.35 (0.38–4.77, P = 0.640). In women randomly assigned preconception, severe hypoglycemia rates occurring before and during the first and second halves of pregnancy and postpartum for IAsp versus human insulin were 0.9 versus 2.4, 0.9 versus 2.4, 0.3 versus 1.2, and 0.2 versus 2.2 episodes per patient per year, respectively (NS). Conclusions: These data suggest that initiation of insulin analog treatment preconception rather than during early pregnancy may result in a lower risk of severe hypoglycemia in women with type 1 diabetes

    Mesonic and Binding Contributions to the EMC Effect in a Relativistic Many Body Approach

    We revise the conventional nuclear effects of Fermi motion, binding and pionic effects in deep inelastic lepton scattering using a relativistic formalism for an interacting Fermi sea and the local density approximation to translate results from nuclear matter to finite nuclei. In addition we also consider effects from rho-meson renormalization in the nucleus. The use of nucleon Green's functions in terms of their spectral functions offers a precise way to account for Fermi motion and binding. On the other hand the use of many body Feynman diagrams in a relativistic framework allows one to avoid using prescriptions given in the past to introduce relativistic corrections in a non relativistic formalism. We show that with realistic nucleon spectral functions and meson nucleus selfenergies one can get a reasonable description of the EMC effect for x > 0.15, outside the shadowing region.Comment: 31 pages, LaTeX, 11 PostScript figures, final version to appear in Nuclear Physics

    Intrinsic electrochemical activity of single walled carbon nanotube–Nafion assemblies

    The intrinsic electrochemical properties and activity of single walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) network electrodes modified by a drop-cast Nafion film have been determined using the one electron oxidation of ferrocene trimethyl ammonium (FcTMA+) as a model redox probe in the Nafion film. Facilitated by the very low transport coefficient of FcTMA+ in Nafion (apparent diffusion coefficient of 1.8 × 10−10 cm2 s−1), SWNTs in the 2-D network behave as individual elements, at short (practical) times, each with their own characteristic diffusion, independent of neighbouring sites, and the response is diagnostic of the proportion of SWNTs active in the composite. Data are analysed using candidate models for cases where: (i) electron transfer events only occur at discrete sites along the sidewall (with a defect density typical of chemical vapour deposition SWNTs); (ii) all of the SWNTs in a network are active. The first case predicts currents that are much smaller than seen experimentally, indicating that significant portions of SWNTs are active in the SWNT–Nafion composite. However, the predictions for a fully active SWNT result in higher currents than seen experimentally, indicating that a fraction of SWNTs are not connected and/or that not all SWNTs are wetted completely by the Nafion film to provide full access of the redox mediator to the SWNT surface
