Brazilian cross-cultural adaptation of “Return-to-work self-efficacy” questionnaire
OBJECTIVE To describe the translation and early stages of cross-cultural adaptation of the questionnaire Verwachtingen over werken (or “Return-to-work self-efficacy”) for workers in sick leave due to mental disorders, from the original in Dutch to the Brazilian Portuguese language. METHODS A panel gathering experts was formed to determine the questionnaire conceptual and item equivalence. For semantic equivalence, the Dutch-Portuguese Brazilian translations were consolidated and consensus meetings were held to structure versions of the instrument. Each version was back-translated from Brazilian Portuguese to Dutch and evaluated by one of the authors of the original version. The final version was submitted to two pre-tests for operational equivalence. RESULTS The original questionnaire in Dutch was translated twice to Brazilian Portuguese. During the process, four consensus meetings of the experts’ panel were performed to create the versions. Each version was back-translated to Dutch. One of the authors of the original questionnaire performed an evaluation on the first three versions until the definition of the final one, which was titled Expectativas sobre o trabalho (Expectations about work). Pre-tests’ participants did not reported problems to fill the questionnaire. CONCLUSIONS Results indicate that the Brazilian Portuguese cross-culturally adapted version maintains the original meaning of the questionnaire, while including characteristics peculiar to the Brazilian reality. Measurement and functional equivalence of this version must still be evaluated before its application can be recommended for workers who have been absent from work due to mental disorders
High-Resolution Imaging of Molecular Gas and Dust in the Antennae (NGC 4038/39): Super Giant Molecular Complexes
We present new aperture synthesis CO maps of the Antennae (NGC 4038/39)
obtained with the Caltech Millimeter Array. These sensitive images show
molecular emission associated with the two nuclei and a partial ring of star
formation to the west of NGC 4038, as well as revealing the large extent of the
extra-nuclear region of star formation (the ``overlap region''), which
dominates the CO emission from this system. The largest molecular complexes
have masses of 3-6x10^8 M_sun, typically an order of magnitude larger than the
largest structures seen to date in more quiescent galaxy disks. The extremely
red luminous star clusters identified previously with HST are well-correlated
with the CO emission, which supports the conclusion that they are highly
embedded young objects rather than old globular clusters. There is an excellent
correlation between the CO emission and the 15 micron emission seen with ISO,
particularly for the brightest regions. The most massive complexes in the
overlap region have similar [NeIII]/[NeII] ratios, which implies that all these
regions are forming many massive stars. However, only the brightest
mid-infrared peak shows strong, rising continuum emission longward of 10
microns, indicative of very small dust grains heated to high temperatures by
their proximity to nearby luminous stars. Since these grains are expected to be
removed rapidly from the immediate environment of the massive stars, it is
possible that this region contains very young (< 1 Myr) sites of star
formation. Alternatively, fresh dust grains could be driven into the sphere of
influence of the massive stars, perhaps by the bulk motions of two giant
molecular complexes. The kinematics and morphology of the CO emission in this

Comorbid Depression Among Untreated Illicit Opiate Users : Results From a Multisite Canadian Study
This study aimed to describe patterns of major depression (MDD) in a cohort of untreated illicit opiate users recruited from 5 Canadian urban centres, identify sociodemographic characteristics of opiate users that predict MDD, and determine whether opiate users suffering from depression exhibit different drug use patterns than do participants without depression. Baseline data were collected from 679 untreated opiate users in Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal, and Quebec City. Using the Composite International Diagnostic Interview Short Form for Major Depression, we assessed sociodemographics, drug use, health status, health service use, and depression. We examined depression rates across study sites; logistic regression analyses predicted MDD from demographic information and city. Chi-square analyses were used to compare injection drug use and cocaine or crack use among participants with and without depression. Almost one-half (49.3%) of the sample met the cut-off score for MDD. Being female, white, and living outside Vancouver independently predicted MDD. Opiate users suffering from depression were more likely than users without depression to share injection equipment and paraphernalia and were also more likely to use cocaine (Ps < 0.05). Comorbid depression is common among untreated opiate users across Canada; targeted interventions are needed for this population
Anti-ALK Antibodies in Patients with ALK-Positive Malignancies Not Expressing NPM-ALK.
Patients with Nucleophosmin (NPM)- Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase (ALK) fusion positive Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma produce autoantibodies against ALK indicative of an immune response against epitopes of the chimeric fusion protein. We asked whether ALK-expression in other malignancies induces specific antibodies. Antibodies against ALK were detected in sera of one of 50 analysed ALK-expressing neuroblastoma patients, 13 of 21 ALK positive non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) patients, 13 of 22 ALK translocation-positive, but NPM-ALK-negative lymphoma patients and one of one ALK-positive rhabdomyosarcoma patient, but not in 20 healthy adults. These data suggest that boosting a pre-existent anti-ALK immune response may be more feasible for patients with ALK-positive NSCLC, lymphomas and rhabdomyosarcomas than for tumours expressing wild-type ALK.This work was supported by a grant from the Deutsche Jose Carreras Leukämie-Stiftung (DJCLS08/ 09) to WW, and RS. Investigating the Impact of Metallicity on Star Formation in the Outer Galaxy. I. VLT/KMOS Survey of Young Stellar Objects in Canis Major
The effects of metallicity on the evolution of protoplanetary disks may be
studied in the outer Galaxy where the metallicity is lower than in the solar
neighbourhood. We present the VLT/KMOS integral field spectroscopy in the
near-infrared of 120 candidate young stellar objects (YSOs) in the
CMa-224 star-forming region located at a Galactocentric distance of 9.1
kpc. We characterise the YSO accretion luminosities and accretion rates using
the hydrogen Br emission and find the median accretion luminosity of
. Based on the measured
accretion luminosities, we investigate the hypothesis of star formation history
in the CMa-224. Their median values suggest that Cluster C, where most of
YSO candidates have been identified, might be the most evolved part of the
region. The accretion luminosities are similar to those observed toward
low-mass YSOs in the Perseus and Orion molecular clouds, and do not reveal the
impact of lower metallicity. Similar studies in other outer Galaxy clouds
covering a wide range of metallicities are critical to gain a complete picture

The global oscillation network group site survey. II. Results
The Global Oscillation Network Group (GONG) Project will place a network of instruments around the world to observe solar oscillations as continuously as possible for three years. The Project has now chosen the six network sites based on analysis of survey data from fifteen sites around the world. The chosen sites are: Big Bear Solar Observatory, California; Mauna Loa Solar Observatory, Hawaii; Learmonth Solar Observatory, Australia; Udaipur Solar Observatory, India; Observatorio del Teide, Tenerife; and Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory, Chile.
Total solar intensity at each site yields information on local cloud cover, extinction coefficient, and transparency fluctuations. In addition, the performance of 192 reasonable components analysis. An accompanying paper describes the analysis methods in detail; here we present the results of both the network and individual site analyses.
The selected network has a duty cycle of 93.3%, in good agreement with numerical simulations. The power spectrum of the network observing window shows a first diurnal sidelobe height of 3 × 10⁻⁴ with respect to the central component, an improvement of a factor of 1300 over a single site. The background level of the network spectrum is lower by a factor of 50 compared to a single-site spectrum

Background. Modern antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimens are widely assumed to forgive modest nonadherence, because virological suppression in plasma is common at adherence levels of >70%. Yet, it is unknown whether human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) replication is completely suppressed at these levels of adherence. Methods. We longitudinally quantified levels of cell-associated HIV-1 RNA and DNA in 40 patients (median duration of successful ART before study initiation, 46 months), whose 1-week adherence to therapy prior to the sampling moments was measured electronically. Results. Patients were constantly 100% adherent (the optimal-adherence group), demonstrated improving adherence over time (the improving-adherence group), or neither of the above (the poor-adherence group). Adherence never decreased to <70% in any patient, and no rebound in plasma virological levels was observed. Nevertheless, poor adherence but not optimal or improving adherence caused a significant longitudinal increase in cell-associated HIV RNA levels (P = .006). Time-weighted changes and regression slopes of viral RNA load for the poor-adherence group were significantly higher than those for the optimal-adherence group (P <.01). Conclusions. Because ART only blocks infection of new cells but not viral RNA transcription in cells infected before therapy initiation, the observed effects strongly suggest that modest nonadherence can cause new cycles of HIV-1 replication that are undetectable by commercial plasma viral load assay
Observations of Arp 220 using Herschel-SPIRE: An Unprecedented View of the Molecular Gas in an Extreme Star Formation Environment
We present Herschel SPIRE-FTS observations of Arp~220, a nearby ULIRG. The
FTS continuously covers 190 -- 670 microns, providing a good measurement of the
continuum and detection of several molecular and atomic species. We detect
luminous CO (J = 4-3 to 13-12) and water ladders with comparable total
luminosity; very high-J HCN absorption; OH+, H2O+, and HF in absorption; and CI
and NII. Modeling of the continuum yields warm dust, with T = 66 K, and an
unusually large optical depth of ~5 at 100 microns. Non-LTE modeling of the CO
shows two temperature components: cold molecular gas at T ~ 50 K and warm
molecular gas at T ~1350 K. The mass of the warm gas is 10% of the cold gas,
but dominates the luminosity of the CO ladder. The temperature of the warm gas
is in excellent agreement with H2 rotational lines. At 1350 K, H2 dominates the
cooling (~20 L_sun/M_sun) in the ISM compared to CO (~0.4 L_sun/M_sun). We
found that only a non-ionizing source such as the mechanical energy from
supernovae and stellar winds can excite the warm gas and satisfy the energy
budget of ~20 L_sun/M_sun. We detect a massive molecular outflow in Arp 220
from the analysis of strong P-Cygni line profiles observed in OH+, H2O+, and
H2O. The outflow has a mass > 10^{7} M_sun and is bound to the nuclei with
velocity < 250 km/s. The large column densities observed for these molecular
ions strongly favor the existence of an X-ray luminous AGN (10^{44} ergs/s) in
