    Implementation of a Vision-Based Worker Assistance System in Assembly: a Case Study

    Abstract The current introduction of Industry 4.0 is very challenging for industrial companies. On the one hand, there is an urge to implement concepts such as digital worker assistance systems or cyber-physical production systems, but besides theoretical work, there is very little research that shows examples of its practical implementation. Furthermore, there is currently a lack of a clear model of how sensor-based worker assistance systems for data acquisition and analytics can be designed and systematically implemented. In the present research, a model for a vision-based worker assistance system for assembly was developed based on an industrial case study regarding a manual assembly line. The proposed model consists of five integrated modules: data acquisition, data preprocessing, data storage, data analysis, and simulation. The data acquisition module was constructed in the assembly workstation of the production line by implementing a depth camera, which together with an algorithm developed in Python for preprocessing, tracks the activities of the operator and inserts the processing times into a SQL table of the data storage module. This module contains all the relevant information of the production system, from the shop floor to the Manufacturing Execution System, enabling vertical integration. The data analysis module, aimed at the streaming and predictive analytics, was deployed in the RStudio platform. Likewise, the simulation module was conceptualized to retrieve real-time data from the shop floor and to select the best strategy. To evaluate the model testing of the proposed system in real production was performed. The results of this use case provide useful information for academia as well as practitioners how to implement vision-based worker assistance systems

    Radial distribution of stars, gas and dust in SINGS galaxies. I. Surface photometry and morphology

    We present ultraviolet through far-infrared surface brightness profiles for the 75 galaxies in the Spitzer Infrared Nearby Galaxies Survey (SINGS). The imagery used to measure the profiles includes GALEX UV data, optical images from KPNO, CTIO and SDSS, near-IR data from 2MASS, and mid- and far-infrared images from Spitzer. Along with the radial profiles, we also provide multi-wavelength asymptotic magnitudes and several non-parametric indicators of galaxy morphology: the concentration index (C_42), the asymmetry (A), the Gini coefficient (G) and the normalized second-order moment of the brightest 20% of the galaxy's flux (M_20). Our radial profiles show a wide range of morphologies and multiple components (bulges, exponential disks, inner and outer disk truncations, etc.) that vary not only from galaxy to galaxy but also with wavelength for a given object. In the optical and near-IR, the SINGS galaxies occupy the same regions in the C_42-A-G-M_20 parameter space as other normal galaxies in previous studies. However, they appear much less centrally concentrated, more asymmetric and with larger values of G when viewed in the UV (due to star-forming clumps scattered across the disk) and in the mid-IR (due to the emission of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons at 8.0 microns and very hot dust at 24 microns).Comment: 66 pages in preprint format, 14 figures, published in ApJ.     Enhanced dust heating in the bulges of early-type spiral galaxies

    Stellar density and bar strength should affect the temperatures of the cool (T ~ 20-30 K) dust component in the inner regions of galaxies, which implies that the ratio of temperatures in the circumnuclear regions to the disk should depend on Hubble type. We investigate the differences between cool dust temperatures in the central 3 kpc and disk of 13 nearby galaxies by fitting models to measurements between 70 and 500 microns. We attempt to quantify temperature trends in nearby disk galaxies, with archival data from Spitzer/MIPS and new observations with Herschel/SPIRE, which were acquired during the first phases of the Herschel observations for the KINGFISH (key insights in nearby galaxies: a far-infrared survey with Herschel) sample. We fit single-temperature modified blackbodies to far-infrared and submillimeter measurements of the central and disk regions of galaxies to determine the temperature of the component(s) emitting at those wavelengths. We present the ratio of central-region-to-disk-temperatures of the cool dust component of 13 nearby galaxies as a function of morphological type. We find a significant temperature gradient in the cool dust component in all galaxies, with a mean center-to-disk temperature ratio of 1.15 +/- 0.03. The cool dust temperatures in the central ~3 kpc of nearby galaxies are 23(+/-3)% hotter for morphological types earlier than Sc, and only 9(+/-3)% hotter for later types. The temperature ratio is also correlated with bar strength, with only strongly barred galaxies having a ratio over 1.2. The strong radiation field in the high stellar density of a galactic bulge tends to heat the cool dust component to higher temperatures, at least in early-type spirals with relatively large bulges, especially when paired with a strong bar.Comment: Accepted for publication on the A&A Herschel Special Issu

    Influence of Murta (Ugni molinae Turcz) Powder on the Frankfurters Quality

    Frankfurters are one of the most demanded meat products in the world due to their low cost and good taste. However, they contain up to 30% animal fat, which is negative for the consumer’s health. Moreover, high-fat contents could also decrease frankfurter sensory properties, since it accelerates the rancidity of the products. This fact is highly dependent on the fatty acids composition since the unsaturation promotes oxidative reactions. Currently, strategies have been developed to replace animal fat with vegetable oils or the inclusion of new raw materials. The murta (Ugni molinae Turcz), an endemic plant in Chile, is a specie that contains high levels of flavonoids in its fruits and has a pleasant flavor, as well as a sweet and floral aroma. However, the effect of the addition of these fruits in the formulation of meat products has been scarcely studied. The present study aims to reduce the use of synthetic additives using natural ones (murta powder). Therefore, this research evaluated the influence of the inclusion of murta on the chemical, sensory, and instrumental parameters of traditional frankfurters. Three batches of frankfurters were manufactured: control sausages without additives (T0); samples with chemical antioxidant (T1); and with murta fruit powder (T2). The chemical composition, physicochemical parameters and sensory properties were determined. Frankfurters made with murta (T2) presented middle values in energy, moisture and sodium compared with control. Also, the reformulated sausages (T2) presented the lowest water holding capacity, redness (a*) and yellowness and the highest values of fat and carbohydrates. Regarding fatty acids content, the most important changes were observed in the C18:0 and C14:0 (T2 presented the lowest values) and C18:2n-6 (T2 had the highest values), but minimal differences were observed in the total SFA, MUFA and PUFA content. Cholesterol content from T2 were similar to the control samples, and T1 presented the highest values. Although these differences, both chemical and nutritional quality of all frankfurters manufactured in the present study were very similar among treatments. Finally, according to the sensory analysis, T2 presented better acceptability and sensory characteristics compared with the other treatments (p 0.05). Therefore, the inclusion of murta in the production of frankfurters could be a strategy to improve the sensory characteristics of this product with minimal changes in chemical and nutritional properties. However, the effect of murta on oxidative stability and frankfurter shelf-life should be studied in depth in future research.Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo en Criotecnología de Alimento

    Disproportionate Intrauterine Growth Intervention Trial At Term: DIGITAT

    Contains fulltext : 65628.pdf ( ) (Open Access)BACKGROUND: Around 80% of intrauterine growth restricted (IUGR) infants are born at term. They have an increase in perinatal mortality and morbidity including behavioral problems, minor developmental delay and spastic cerebral palsy. Management is controversial, in particular the decision whether to induce labour or await spontaneous delivery with strict fetal and maternal surveillance. We propose a randomised trial to compare effectiveness, costs and maternal quality of life for induction of labour versus expectant management in women with a suspected IUGR fetus at term. METHODS/DESIGN: The proposed trial is a multi-centre randomised study in pregnant women who are suspected on clinical grounds of having an IUGR child at a gestational age between 36+0 and 41+0 weeks. After informed consent women will be randomly allocated to either induction of labour or expectant management with maternal and fetal monitoring. Randomisation will be web-based. The primary outcome measure will be a composite neonatal morbidity and mortality. Secondary outcomes will be severe maternal morbidity, maternal quality of life and costs. Moreover, we aim to assess neurodevelopmental and neurobehavioral outcome at two years as assessed by a postal enquiry (Child Behavioral Check List-CBCL and Ages and Stages Questionnaire-ASQ). Analysis will be by intention to treat. Quality of life analysis and a preference study will also be performed in the same study population. Health technology assessment with an economic analysis is part of this so called Digitat trial (Disproportionate Intrauterine Growth Intervention Trial At Term). The study aims to include 325 patients per arm. DISCUSSION: This trial will provide evidence for which strategy is superior in terms of neonatal and maternal morbidity and mortality, costs and maternal quality of life aspects. The data for 200 objects are made public, including the 100 galaxies of the First Public Data Release (DR1). Data were obtained with the integral-field spectrograph PMAS/PPak mounted on the 3.5 m telescope at the Calar Alto observatory. Two different spectral setups are available for each galaxy, (i) a lowresolution V500 setup covering the wavelength range 3745–7500 Å with a spectral resolution of 6.0 Å (FWHM); and (ii) a medium-resolution V1200 setup covering the wavelength range 3650–4840 Å with a spectral resolution of 2.3 Å (FWHM). The sample covers a redshift range between 0.005 and 0.03, with a wide range of properties in the color–magnitude diagram, stellar mass, ionization conditions, and morphological types. All the cubes in the data release were reduced with the latest pipeline, which includes improved spectrophotometric calibration, spatial registration, and spatial resolution. The spectrophotometric calibration is better than 6% and the median spatial resolution is 200 : 4.     Photometric characterization of a well defined sample of isolated galaxies in the context of the AMIGA project

    We perform a detailed photometric analysis (bulge-disk-bar decomposition and Concentration-Asymmetry-Clumpiness - CAS parametrization) for a well defined sample of isolated galaxies, extracted from the Catalog of Isolated Galaxies (Karachentseva 1973) and reevaluated morphologically in the context of the AMIGA project. We focus on Sb-Sc morphological types, as they are the most representative population among the isolated spiral galaxies. Assuming that the bulge Sersic index and/or Bulge/Total luminosity ratios are reasonable diagnostics for pseudo- versus classical bulges, we conclude that the majority of late-type isolated disk galaxies likely host pseudobulges rather than classical bulges. Our parametrization of galactic bulges and disks suggests that the properties of the pseudobulges are strongly connected to those of the disks. This may indicate that pseudobulges are formed through internal processes within the disks (i.e. secular evolution) and that bars may play an important role in their formation. Although the sample under investigation covers a narrow morphological range, a clear separation between Sb and Sbc-Sc types is observed in various measures, e.g. the former are redder, brighter, have larger disks and larger bars, more luminous bulges, are more concentrated, more symmetric and clumpier than the latter. A comparison with samples of spiral galaxies (within the same morphological range) selected without isolation criteria reveals that the isolated galaxies tend to host larger bars, are more symmetric, less concentrated and less clumpy.Comment: accepted for publication in MNRAS - 13 figures, 11 table

    No detection of methane on Mars from early ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter observations

    The detection of methane on Mars has been interpreted as indicating that geochemical or biotic activities could persist on Mars today. A number of different measurements of methane show evidence of transient, locally elevated methane concentrations and seasonal variations in background methane concentrations. These measurements, however, are difficult to reconcile with our current understanding of the chemistry and physics of the Martian atmosphere, which-given methane's lifetime of several centuries-predicts an even, well mixed distribution of methane. Here we report highly sensitive measurements of the atmosphere of Mars in an attempt to detect methane, using the ACS and NOMAD instruments onboard the ESA-Roscosmos ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter from April to August 2018. We did not detect any methane over a range of latitudes in both hemispheres, obtaining an upper limit for methane of about 0.05 parts per billion by volume, which is 10 to 100 times lower than previously reported positive detections. We suggest that reconciliation between the present findings and the background methane concentrations found in the Gale crater would require an unknown process that can rapidly remove or sequester methane from the lower atmosphere before it spreads globally

    Martian dust storm impact on atmospheric H<sub>2</sub>O and D/H observed by ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter

    Global dust storms on Mars are rare but can affect the Martian atmosphere for several months. They can cause changes in atmospheric dynamics and inflation of the atmosphere, primarily owing to solar heating of the dust. In turn, changes in atmospheric dynamics can affect the distribution of atmospheric water vapour, with potential implications for the atmospheric photochemistry and climate on Mars. Recent observations of the water vapour abundance in the Martian atmosphere during dust storm conditions revealed a high-altitude increase in atmospheric water vapour that was more pronounced at high northern latitudes, as well as a decrease in the water column at low latitudes. Here we present concurrent, high-resolution measurements of dust, water and semiheavy water (HDO) at the onset of a global dust storm, obtained by the NOMAD and ACS instruments onboard the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter. We report the vertical distribution of the HDO/H O ratio (D/H) from the planetary boundary layer up to an altitude of 80 kilometres. Our findings suggest that before the onset of the dust storm, HDO abundances were reduced to levels below detectability at altitudes above 40 kilometres. This decrease in HDO coincided with the presence of water-ice clouds. During the storm, an increase in the abundance of H2O and HDO was observed at altitudes between 40 and 80 kilometres. We propose that these increased abundances may be the result of warmer temperatures during the dust storm causing stronger atmospheric circulation and preventing ice cloud formation, which may confine water vapour to lower altitudes through gravitational fall and subsequent sublimation of ice crystals. The observed changes in H2O and HDO abundance occurred within a few days during the development of the dust storm, suggesting a fast impact of dust storms on the Martian atmosphere
