    A model for radiogalaxies

    Get PDF
hrough a convenient model, it is shown that galaxies with a condensed nuclear body breaking in two pieces develop transient annular optical structures resembling those found in typical radiogalaxies. A complete account of the theory will be found in: — J. L . Sersic: Transient Annular Structures in Exploding Galaxies, Proc. Symposium on Stability, Resonances and Periodic Orbits, Sao Paulo, 1969 (in Press).Asociación Argentina de Astronomí

    Unstable groups of galaxies

    Get PDF
The observed relationship between mass-luminosity ratios for groups and clusters of galaxies and their population is interpreted on basis of a model developed by the author (1968) in which unstable groups of galaxies are thought to be the result of the fragmentation of a parent galaxy.

With the photometric data from Córdoba and the spectroscopic data from Radcliffe the stability-of the group is discussed. The conclusion is that the group expands. The influence of the distance upon the calculation of the masses is stressed.Asociación Argentina de Astronomí
