    Reflectance modulation at a germanium surface

    By passing a periodically interrupted current through a germanium sample, modulation of the spectral reflectance at the surface has been observed. A complex spectrum results which includes structures related to interband transitions at critical points.     Describes a wide range, double beam, wavelength modulated spectrometer free of background spectrum down to a logarithmic derivative of 10-4 nm-1. An optical switch has been designed such that the sample and reference beams hit the detector in the same spot and at the same angle.
