Elastocaloric signatures of symmetric and antisymmetric strain-tuning of quadrupolar and magnetic phases in DyB2C2

The adiabatic elastocaloric effect measures the temperature change of given systems with strain and probes the entropic landscape in the temperature-strain space. In this study we demonstrate that the DC bias strain-dependence of AC elastocaloric effect can be used to decompose the latter into contributions from symmetric (rotation-symmetry-preserving) and antisymmetric (rotation-symmetry-breaking) strains, using a tetragonal f-electron system DyB2C2--whose antiferroquadrupolar order locally breaks four-fold rotational site symmetries while globally remaining tetragonal--as a showcase example. We capture the strain evolution of the quadrupolar and magnetic phase transitions in the system using both singularities in the elastocaloric coefficient and its jump at the transitions, and the latter we show follows a modified Ehrenfest relation. We find that antisymmetric strain couples to the underlying order parameter in a bi-quadratic manner in the antiferroquadrupolar (AFQ) phase but in a linear-quadratic manner in the canted antiferromagnetic (CAFM) phase; the contrast is attributed to a preserved (broken) tetragonal symmetry in the AFQ (CAFM) phase, respectively. The broken tetragonal symmetry in the CAFM phase is further supported by elastocaloric strain-hysteresis and observation of two sets of domains with mutually perpendicular principal axes in optical birefringence. Additionally, when the quadrupolar moments are ordered in a staggered fashion, we uncover an elastocaloric response that reflects a quadratic increase of entropy with antisymmetric strain, analogous to the role magnetic field plays for Ising antiferromagnets by promoting pseudospin flips. Our results show that AC elastocaloric effect is a compact and incisive thermodynamic probe into the coupling between electronic degrees of freedom and strain, which can potentially be applied to broader classes of quantum materials.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figure

Fabrication, Characterization and Simulation of Sputtered Pt/In-Ga-Zn-O Schottky Diodes for Low-Frequency Half-Wave Rectifier Circuits

Amorphous In-Ga-Zn-O (IGZO) is a high-mobility semiconductor employed in modern thin-film transistors for displays and it is considered as a promising material for Schottky diode-based rectifiers. Properties of the electronic components based on IGZO strongly depend on the manufacturing parameters such as the oxygen partial pressure during IGZO sputtering and post-deposition thermal annealing. In this study, we investigate the combined effect of sputtering conditions of amorphous IGZO (In:Ga:Zn=1:1:1) and post-deposition thermal annealing on the properties of vertical thin-film Pt-IGZO-Cu Schottky diodes, and evaluated the applicability of the fabricated Schottky diodes for low-frequency half-wave rectifier circuits. The change of the oxygen content in the gas mixture from 1.64% to 6.25%, and post-deposition annealing is shown to increase the current rectification ratio from 10 5 to 10 7 at ±1 V, Schottky barrier height from 0.64 eV to 0.75 eV, and the ideality factor from 1.11 to 1.39. Half-wave rectifier circuits based on the fabricated Schottky diodes were simulated using parameters extracted from measured current-voltage and capacitance-voltage characteristics. The half-wave rectifier circuits were realized at 100 kHz and 300 kHz on as-fabricated Schottky diodes with active area of 200 ÎŒm × 200 ÎŒm, which is relevant for the near-field communication (125 kHz - 134 kHz), and provided the output voltage amplitude of 0.87 V for 2 V supply voltage. The simulation results matched with the measurement data, verifying the model accuracy for circuit level simulation

Here, we report phase-coherent oscillations of out-of-plane magnetoresistance in the layered delafossites PdCoO2 and PtCoO2 The oscillation period is equivalent to that determined by the magnetic flux quantum, h/e, threading an area defined by the atomic interlayer separation and the sample width, where h is Planck's constant and e is the charge of an electron. The phase of the electron wave function appears robust over length scales exceeding 10 micrometers and persisting up to temperatures of T > 50 kelvin. We show that the experimental signal stems from a periodic field modulation of the out-of-plane hopping. These results demonstrate extraordinary single-particle quantum coherence lengths in delafossites.PostprintPeer reviewe

bTUNED: transcutaneous tibial nerve stimulation for neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction

OBJECTIVE To present the protocol for a randomized controlled trial (RCT) evaluating the efficacy and safety of transcutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (TTNS) for refractory neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD). STUDY DESIGN AND RESULTS bTUNED (bladder and TranscUtaneous tibial Nerve stimulation for nEurogenic lower urinary tract Dysfunction) is an international multicentre, sham-controlled, double-blind RCT investigating the efficacy and safety of TTNS. The primary outcome is success of TTNS, defined as improvements in key bladder diary variables at study end compared to baseline values. The focus of the treatment is defined by the Self-Assessment Goal Achievement (SAGA) questionnaire. Secondary outcomes are the effect of TTNS on urodynamic, neurophysiological, and bowel function outcome measures, as well as the safety of TTNS. CONCLUSIONS A total of 240 patients with refractory NLUTD will be included and randomized 1:1 into the verum or sham TTNS group from March 2020 until August 2026. TTNS will be performed twice a week for 30 min during 6 weeks. The patients will attend baseline assessments, 12 treatment visits and follow-up assessments at the study end

An analysis of the angular distribution of the decay Λb0_{b}^{0}  → ΛΌ+^{+}Ό−^{−} is presented, using data collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2016 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 5 fb−1^{−1}. Angular observables are determined using a moment analysis of the angular distribution at low hadronic recoil, corresponding to the dimuon invariant mass squared range 15 < q2^{2} < 20 GeV2^{2}/c4^{4}. The full basis of observables is measured for the first time. The lepton-side, hadron-side and combined forward-backward asymmetries of the decay are determined to be \begin{array}{l}{A}_{\mathrm{FB}}^{\ell }=-0.39\pm 0.04\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.01\left(\mathrm{syst}\right),\hfill \\ {}{A}_{\mathrm{FB}}^h=-0.30\pm 0.05\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.02\left(\mathrm{syst}\right),\hfill \\ {}{A}_{\mathrm{FB}}^{\ell h}=+0.25\pm 0.04\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.01\left(\mathrm{syst}\right).\hfill \end{array} An analysis of the angular distribution of the decay Λb0→ΛΌ+Ό−\Lambda_b^0 \rightarrow \Lambda \mu^{+} \mu^{-} is presented, using data collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2016 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 5 fb−15\,fb^{-1}.
