Decay of correlations for maps with uniformly contracting fibers and logarithm law for singular hyperbolic attractors
We consider two dimensional maps preserving a foliation which is uniformly
contracting and a one dimensional associated quotient map having exponential
convergence to equilibrium (iterates of Lebesgue measure converge exponentially
fast to physical measure). We prove that these maps have exponential decay of
correlations over a large class of observables. We use this result to deduce
exponential decay of correlations for the Poincare maps of a large class of
singular hyperbolic flows. From this we deduce logarithm laws for these flows.Comment: 39 pages; 03 figures; proof of Theorem 1 corrected; many typos

Electrodeposition of CuGaSe2 and CuGaS2 thin films for photovoltaic applications
The final publication is available at Springer via http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s10008-016-3237-0.Abstract CuGaSe2 and CuGaS2 polycrystalline thin film absorbers were prepared by one-step electrodeposition from an
aqueous electrolyte containing CuCl2, GaCl3 and H2SeO3.
The pH of the solution was adjusted to 2.3 by adding HCl
and KOH. Annealing improved crystallinity of CuGaSe2 and
further annealing in sulphur atmosphere was required to obtain CuGaS2 layers. The morphology, topography, chemical
composition and crystal structure of the deposited thin films
were analysed by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force
microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction, respectively. X-Ray diffraction showed that the asdeposited CuGaSe2 film exhibited poor crystallinity, but
which improved dramatically when the layers were annealed
in forming gas atmosphere for 40 min. Subsequent
sulphurization of CuGaSe2 films was performed at 400 °C
for 10 min in presence of molecular sulphur and under
forming gas atmosphere. The effect of sulphurization was
the conversion of CuGaSe2 into CuGaS2. The formation of
CuGaS2 thin films was evidenced by the shift observed in the
X-ray diffraction pattern and by the blue shift of the optical
bandgap. The bandgap of CuGaSe2 was found to be 1.66 eV,
while for CuGaS2 it raised up to 2.2 eV. A broad intermediate
absorption band associated to Cr and centred at 1.63 eV was
observed in Cr-doped CuGaS2 films. This work was supported by Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad (ENE2013-46624-C4-4-R) and Generalitat Valenciana (Prometeus 2014/044). One of the authors (S. Groups of diffeomorphisms and geometric loops of manifolds over ultra-normed fields
The article is devoted to the investigation of groups of diffeomorphisms and
loops of manifolds over ultra-metric fields of zero and positive
characteristics. Different types of topologies are considered on groups of
loops and diffeomorphisms relative to which they are generalized Lie groups or
topological groups. Among such topologies pairwise incomparable are found as
well. Topological perfectness of the diffeomorphism group relative to certain
topologies is studied. There are proved theorems about projective limit
decompositions of these groups and their compactifications for compact
manifolds. Moreover, an existence of one-parameter local subgroups of
diffeomorphism groups is investigated.Comment: Some corrections excluding misprints in the article were mad

Smoking Dose Modifies the Association between C242T Polymorphism and Prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome in a Chinese Population
Background: The C242T polymorphism of the CYBA gene that encodes p22phox, a component of NADPH oxidase, has been found to modulate superoxide production. Oxidase is a major source of the superoxide anion that contributes to individual components of metabolic syndrome. We examined the relationship of the C242T polymorphism with the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in a Chinese population, taking account of consumed cigarette amounts. Methodology/Principal Findings: In 870 participants, we collected biomarkers related to metabolic syndrome and detailed history of smoking and genotyped the C242T polymorphisms. After adjustment for covariates, the CT/TT genotypes were associated with a lower risk of metabolic syndrome (P = 0.0008). The odds of having metabolic syndrome in the CT/TT participants were 0.439 (95%CI: 0.265, 0.726), while for CC participants the odds were 1.110 (95%CI: 0.904, 1.362). There was significant (P = 0.014) interaction between the C242T polymorphism and smoking status in relation to the prevalence of metabolic syndrome. For smokers who smoke no less than 25 pack-years, those with CT/TT genotypes had lower risk of metabolic syndrome as compared with CC polymorphism carriers (P = 0.015). In the multiple regression analysis, the CT/TT genotypes were significantly associated with lower serum concentration of triglycerides both in all subjects and smokers; furthermore, the CT/TT genotypes were also related to smaller waist circumference in smokers. Conclusions: Our study suggests that the C242T gene polymorphism is indeed related to the prevalence of metaboli

Search for new phenomena in final states with an energetic jet and large missing transverse momentum in pp collisions at √ s = 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector
Results of a search for new phenomena in final states with an energetic jet and large missing transverse momentum are reported. The search uses 20.3 fb−1 of √ s = 8 TeV data collected in 2012 with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Events are required to have at least one jet with pT > 120 GeV and no leptons. Nine signal regions are considered with increasing missing transverse momentum requirements between Emiss T > 150 GeV and Emiss T > 700 GeV. Good agreement is observed between the number of events in data and Standard Model expectations. The results are translated into exclusion limits on models with either large extra spatial dimensions, pair production of weakly interacting dark matter candidates, or production of very light gravitinos in a gauge-mediated supersymmetric model. In addition, limits on the production of an invisibly decaying Higgs-like boson leading to similar topologies in the final state are presente
SARS-CoV-2 antibody dynamics in blood donors and COVID-19 epidemiology in eight Brazilian state capitals: A serial cross-sectional study
BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 situation in Brazil is complex due to large differences in the shape and size of regional epidemics. Understanding these patterns is crucial to understand future outbreaks of SARS-CoV-2 or other respiratory pathogens in the country. METHODS: We tested 97,950 blood donation samples for IgG antibodies from March 2020 to March 2021 in 8 of Brazil's most populous cities. Residential postal codes were used to obtain representative samples. Weekly age- and sex-specific seroprevalence were estimated by correcting the crude seroprevalence by test sensitivity, specificity, and antibody waning. RESULTS: The inferred attack rate of SARS-CoV-2 in December 2020, before the Gamma variant of concern (VOC) was dominant, ranged from 19.3% (95% credible interval [CrI] 17.5-21.2%) in Curitiba to 75.0% (95% CrI 70.8-80.3%) in Manaus. Seroprevalence was consistently smaller in women and donors older than 55 years. The age-specific infection fatality rate (IFR) differed between cities and consistently increased with age. The infection hospitalisation rate increased significantly during the Gamma-dominated second wave in Manaus, suggesting increased morbidity of the Gamma VOC compared to previous variants circulating in Manaus. The higher disease penetrance associated with the health system's collapse increased the overall IFR by a minimum factor of 2.91 (95% CrI 2.43-3.53). CONCLUSIONS: These results highlight the utility of blood donor serosurveillance to track epidemic maturity and demonstrate demographic and spatial heterogeneity in SARS-CoV-2 spread.
