    Study of Exclusive Radiative B Meson Decays

    Full text link
    We have investigated exclusive, radiative B meson decays to charmless mesons (\rho, \omega, \phi, K^*(892), K^*_2(1430)) in 9.7\times 10^6 BBbar decays accumulated with the CLEO detector. The B -> K^*(892)\gamma branching fractions are determined to be Br(B^0 -> K^{*0}(892)\gamma) = (4.55 +0.72-0.68 +-0.34)\times 10^-5 and Br(B^+ -> K^{*+}(892)\gamma) = (3.76 +0.89-0.83 +-0.28)\times 10^-5. We have searched for CP asymmetry in B -> K^*(892)\gamma decays and measure Acp = +0.08 +-0.13 +-0.03. We also report the first observation of the decay B -> K^*_2(1430)\gamma with a branching fraction of (1.66 +0.59-0.53 +-0.13)\times 10^-5 and determine $Br(B -> K^*_2(1430)\gamma)/Br(B -> K^*(892)\gamma) = 0.39 +0.15-0.13 consistent with only one of two available theoretical models. No significant evidence for the decays B -> \rho\gamma and B^0 -> \omega\gamma is found and we limit Br(B -> (\rho/\omega)\gamma)/Br(B -> K^{*}(892)\gamma) < 0.32 at 90% CL. We also find no evidence for the exotic decay B^0 -> \phi\gamma.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev. Letter

    Inclusive eta' Production from the Upsilon(1S)

    Full text link
    Using the CLEO II detector at CESR, we measure the eta' - gluon - gluon form-factor in Y(1S) decays. This form-factor especially at large eta' energies may provide an explanation of the large rate for B -> Xs eta'. Our data do not support a large anomalous coupling at higher q^2 and thus the large eta' rate remains a mystery, possibly requiring a non-Standard Model explanation.Comment: 14 pages postscript, also available through http://w4.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS, submitted to PR

    A Search for Charmless B→VVB\to VV Decays

    Full text link
    We have studied two-body charmless decays of the BB meson into the final states ρ0ρ0\rho^0 \rho^0, K∗0ρ0K^{*0} \rho^0, K∗0K∗0K^{*0} K^{*0}, K∗0K∗0ˉK^{*0} \bar{K^{*0}}, K∗+ρ0K^{*+} \rho^0, K∗+K∗0ˉK^{*+} \bar{K^{*0}}, and K∗+K∗−K^{*+} K^{*-} using only decay modes with charged daughter particles. Using 9.7 million BBˉB \bar{B} pairs collected with the CLEO detector, we place 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions, (0.46−7.0)×10−5(0.46-7.0)\times 10^{-5}, depending on final state and polarization.Comment: 8 pages postscript, also available through http://w4.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLN

    Measurement of Charge Asymmetries in Charmless Hadronic in B Meson Decays

    Full text link
    We search for CP-violating asymmetries (Acp) in the B meson decays to K+- pi-+, K+- pi0, Ks pi+-, K+- eta', and omega pi+-. Using 9.66 million Upsilon(4S) decays collected with the CLEO detector, the statistical precision on Acp is in the range of \pm 0.12 to \pm 0.25 depending on decay mode. While CP-violating asymmetries of up to \pm 0.5 are possible within the Standard Model, the measured asymmetries are consistent with zero in all five decay modes studied.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure

    Branching Fraction and Photon Energy Spectrum b -> s gamma

    Full text link
    We have measured the branching fraction and photon energy spectrum for the radiative penguin process b -> s gamma. We find BR(b -> s gamma) = (3.21 +- 0.43 +- 0.27 +0.18 -0.10) 10^(-4), where the errors are statistical, systematic, and from theory corrections. We obtain first and second moments of the photon energy spectrum above 2.0 GeV, = 2.346 +- 0.032 +- 0.011 GeV, and - ^2 = 0.0226 +- 0.0066 +- 0.0020 GeV^2, where the errors are statistical and systematic. From the first moment we obtain (in MS[Bar], to order 1/M^3 and beta_0 alpha_s^2) the HQET parameter Lambda[Bar] = 0.35 +- 0.08 +- 0.10 GeV.Comment: 11 pages postscript, also available through http://w4.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS, submitted to PR

    Search for Baryons in the Radiative Penguin Decay b--> s gamma

    Full text link
    We have searched for the baryon-containing radiative penguin decays B^- -> \Lambda p-bar \gamma and B^- -> \Sigma^0 p-bar \gamma, using a sample of 9.7 million BBbar events collected at the \Upsilon(4S) with the CLEO detector. We find no evidence for either, and set 90% confidence level upper limits for photons with B rest frame energy greater than 2.0 GeV of [Br(B^- -> \Lambda p-bar \gamma) + 0.3 Br(B^- -> \Sigma^0 p-bar \gamma)] \Sigma^0 p-bar \gamma) + 0.4 Br(B^- -> \Lambda p-bar \gamma)] < 6.4 x 10^-6. From the latter, we estimate (for photons with B rest frame energy greater than 2.0 GeV) Br(B -> X_s \gamma, X_s containing baryons) < 3.8 x 10^-5. This limit implies upper limits on corrections to CLEO's recent measurement of branching fraction, mean photon energy, and variance in photon energy from b -> s \gamma that are less than half the combined statistical and systematic errors quoted on these quantities.Comment: 8 pages postscript, also available through http://w4.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS, submitted to PRD Rapid Communicatio

    Bounds on the CP Asymmetry in b→sγb\to s\gamma Decays

    Full text link
    We have measured the CP asymmetry A_CP = [BF(b -> s gamma) - BF(bbar -> sbar gamma)]/ [BF(b -> s gamma) + BF(bbar -> sbar gamma)] to be A_CP = (-0.079 +/- 0.108 +/- 0.022)(1.0 +/- 0.030), implying that, at 90% confidence level, A_CP lies between -0.27 and +0.10. These limits rule out some extreme non-Standard Model predictions, but are consistent with most, as well as with the Standard Model.Comment: 11 pages postscript, also available through http://w4.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLN

    Discutindo a educação ambiental no cotidiano escolar: desenvolvimento de projetos na escola formação inicial e continuada de professores

    Get PDF
    A presente pesquisa buscou discutir como a Educação Ambiental (EA) vem sendo trabalhada, no Ensino Fundamental e como os docentes desta escola compreendem e vem inserindo a EA no cotidiano escolar., em uma escola estadual do município de Tangará da Serra/MT, Brasil. Para tanto, realizou-se entrevistas com os professores que fazem parte de um projeto interdisciplinar de EA na escola pesquisada. Verificou-se que o projeto da escola não vem conseguindo alcançar os objetivos propostos por: desconhecimento do mesmo, pelos professores; formação deficiente dos professores, não entendimento da EA como processo de ensino-aprendizagem, falta de recursos didáticos, planejamento inadequado das atividades. A partir dessa constatação, procurou-se debater a impossibilidade de tratar do tema fora do trabalho interdisciplinar, bem como, e principalmente, a importância de um estudo mais aprofundado de EA, vinculando teoria e prática, tanto na formação docente, como em projetos escolares, a fim de fugir do tradicional vínculo “EA e ecologia, lixo e horta”.Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educació

    Search for narrow resonances using the dijet mass spectrum in pp collisions at s√=8  TeV

    Get PDF
    Results are presented of a search for the production of new particles decaying to pairs of partons (quarks, antiquarks, or gluons), in the dijet mass spectrum in proton-proton collisions at s√=8  TeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.0  fb−1, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2012. No significant evidence for narrow resonance production is observed. Upper limits are set at the 95% confidence level on the production cross section of hypothetical new particles decaying to quark-quark, quark-gluon, or gluon-gluon final states. These limits are then translated into lower limits on the masses of new resonances in specific scenarios of physics beyond the standard model. The limits reach up to 4.8 TeV, depending on the model, and extend previous exclusions from similar searches performed at lower collision energies. For the first time mass limits are set for the Randall–Sundrum graviton model in the dijet channel
