A Strategic Approach Using Representative LV Networks in the Assessment of Technical Losses on LV Network with Solar Photovoltaic
Low voltage network (LVN) forms an extensive part of the distribution network as it is used to connect electricity supply from utility substations to diverse segments of loads in different geographic locations. With the increasingly high penetration of solar PV in LVN, utility companies are finding it necessary to establish the contribution of these solar PV to the overall technical losses in the distribution network. This paper presents a strategic approach using representative LVN to determine the impact of solar PV on technical losses on the LVN. Five types of representative LVN characterized by different customer load segments (domestic, commercial and industrial) and peak load demand were developed. The impact on technical losses of solar PV connected to these representatives LVN were assessed on a statistical basis for a supply zone. The results obtained are consistent and could be applied to establish investment strategies on distribution network, tariff revision exercise and optimization of distribution network planning/design
Dirichlet sigma models and mean curvature flow
The mean curvature flow describes the parabolic deformation of embedded
branes in Riemannian geometry driven by their extrinsic mean curvature vector,
which is typically associated to surface tension forces. It is the gradient
flow of the area functional, and, as such, it is naturally identified with the
boundary renormalization group equation of Dirichlet sigma models away from
conformality, to lowest order in perturbation theory. D-branes appear as fixed
points of this flow having conformally invariant boundary conditions. Simple
running solutions include the paper-clip and the hair-pin (or grim-reaper)
models on the plane, as well as scaling solutions associated to rational (p, q)
closed curves and the decay of two intersecting lines. Stability analysis is
performed in several cases while searching for transitions among different
brane configurations. The combination of Ricci with the mean curvature flow is
examined in detail together with several explicit examples of deforming curves
on curved backgrounds. Some general aspects of the mean curvature flow in
higher dimensional ambient spaces are also discussed and obtain consistent
truncations to lower dimensional systems. Selected physical applications are
mentioned in the text, including tachyon condensation in open string theory and

Sequential design of computer experiments for the estimation of a probability of failure
This paper deals with the problem of estimating the volume of the excursion
set of a function above a given threshold,
under a probability measure on that is assumed to be known. In
the industrial world, this corresponds to the problem of estimating a
probability of failure of a system. When only an expensive-to-simulate model of
the system is available, the budget for simulations is usually severely limited
and therefore classical Monte Carlo methods ought to be avoided. One of the
main contributions of this article is to derive SUR (stepwise uncertainty
reduction) strategies from a Bayesian-theoretic formulation of the problem of
estimating a probability of failure. These sequential strategies use a Gaussian
process model of and aim at performing evaluations of as efficiently as
possible to infer the value of the probability of failure. We compare these
strategies to other strategies also based on a Gaussian process model for

Exotic Meson Production in the System observed in the Reaction at 18 GeV/c
This letter reports results from the partial wave analysis of the
final state in collisions at 18GeV/c.
Strong evidence is observed for production of two mesons with exotic quantum
numbers of spin, parity and charge conjugation, in the decay
channel . The mass MeV/c^2 and
width MeV/c^2 of the first state are consistent
with the parameters of the previously observed . The second
resonance with mass MeV/c^2 and width MeV/c^2 agrees very well with predictions from theoretical
models. In addition, the presence of is confirmed with mass MeV/c^2 and width MeV/c^2
and a new state, , is observed with mass
MeV/c^2 and width MeV/c^2. The decay properties of
these last two states are consistent with flux tube model predictions for
hybrid mesons with non-exotic quantum numbers
Dalitz plot analysis of D_s+ and D+ decay to pi+pi-pi+ using the K-matrix formalism
FOCUS results from Dalitz plot analysis of D_s+ and D+ to pi+pi-pi+ are
presented. The K-matrix formalism is applied to charm decays for the first time
to fully exploit the already existing knowledge coming from the light-meson
spectroscopy experiments. In particular all the measured dynamics of the S-wave
pipi scattering, characterized by broad/overlapping resonances and large
non-resonant background, can be properly included. This paper studies the
extent to which the K-matrix approach is able to reproduce the observed Dalitz
plot and thus help us to understand the underlying dynamics. The results are
discussed, along with their possible implications on the controversial nature

Social Value Orientation, Expectations, and Cooperation in Social Dilemmas:A Meta-analysis
Interdependent situations are pervasive in human life. In these situations, it is essential to form expectations
about the others’ behaviour to adapt one’s own behaviour to increase mutual outcomes and avoid exploitation. Social
value orientation, which describes the dispositional weights individuals attach to their own and to another person’s
outcome, predicts these expectations of cooperation in social dilemmas—an interdependent situation involving a
conflict of interests. Yet, scientific evidence is inconclusive about the exact differences in expectations between
prosocials, individualists, and competitors. The present meta-analytic results show that, relative to proselfs (individualists
and competitors), prosocials expect more cooperation from others in social dilemmas, whereas individualists
and competitors do not significantly differ in their expectations. The importance of these expectations in the decision
process is further highlighted by the finding that they partially mediate the well-established relation between social
value orientation and cooperative behaviour in social dilemmas. In fact, even proselfs are more likely to cooperate
when they expect their partner to cooperate
Understanding and responding to COVID-19 in Wales: protocol for a privacy-protecting data platform for enhanced epidemiology and evaluation of interventions
INTRODUCTION: The emergence of the novel respiratory SARS-CoV-2 and subsequent COVID-19 pandemic have required rapid assimilation of population-level data to understand and control the spread of infection in the general and vulnerable populations. Rapid analyses are needed to inform policy development and target interventions to at-risk groups to prevent serious health outcomes. We aim to provide an accessible research platform to determine demographic, socioeconomic and clinical risk factors for infection, morbidity and mortality of COVID-19, to measure the impact of COVID-19 on healthcare utilisation and long-term health, and to enable the evaluation of natural experiments of policy interventions. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Two privacy-protecting population-level cohorts have been created and derived from multisourced demographic and healthcare data. The C20 cohort consists of 3.2 million people in Wales on the 1 January 2020 with follow-up until 31 May 2020. The complete cohort dataset will be updated monthly with some individual datasets available daily. The C16 cohort consists of 3 million people in Wales on the 1 January 2016 with follow-up to 31 December 2019. C16 is designed as a counterfactual cohort to provide contextual comparative population data on disease, health service utilisation and mortality. Study outcomes will: (a) characterise the epidemiology of COVID-19, (b) assess socioeconomic and demographic influences on infection and outcomes, (c) measure the impact of COVID-19 on short -term and longer-term population outcomes and (d) undertake studies on the transmission and spatial spread of infection. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: The Secure Anonymised Information Linkage-independent Information Governance Review Panel has approved this study. The study findings will be presented to policy groups, public meetings, national and international conferences, and published in peer-reviewed journals
Two-pion Bose-Einstein correlations in central Pb-Pb collisions at = 2.76 TeV
The first measurement of two-pion Bose-Einstein correlations in central Pb-Pb
collisions at TeV at the Large Hadron Collider is
presented. We observe a growing trend with energy now not only for the
longitudinal and the outward but also for the sideward pion source radius. The
pion homogeneity volume and the decoupling time are significantly larger than

Suppression of charged particle production at large transverse momentum in central Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
Inclusive transverse momentum spectra of primary charged particles in Pb-Pb
collisions at = 2.76 TeV have been measured by the ALICE
Collaboration at the LHC. The data are presented for central and peripheral
collisions, corresponding to 0-5% and 70-80% of the hadronic Pb-Pb cross
section. The measured charged particle spectra in and GeV/ are compared to the expectation in pp collisions at the same
, scaled by the number of underlying nucleon-nucleon
collisions. The comparison is expressed in terms of the nuclear modification
factor . The result indicates only weak medium effects ( 0.7) in peripheral collisions. In central collisions,
reaches a minimum of about 0.14 at -7GeV/ and increases
significantly at larger . The measured suppression of high- particles is stronger than that observed at lower collision energies,
indicating that a very dense medium is formed in central Pb-Pb collisions at

Molecular and translational advances in meningiomas.
Meningiomas are the most common primary intracranial neoplasm. The current World Health Organization (WHO) classification categorizes meningiomas based on histopathological features, but emerging molecular data demonstrate the importance of genomic and epigenomic factors in the clinical behavior of these tumors. Treatment options for symptomatic meningiomas are limited to surgical resection where possible and adjuvant radiation therapy for tumors with concerning histopathological features or recurrent disease. At present, alternative adjuvant treatment options are not available in part due to limited historical biological analysis and clinical trial investigation on meningiomas. With advances in molecular and genomic techniques in the last decade, we have witnessed a surge of interest in understanding the genomic and epigenomic landscape of meningiomas. The field is now at the stage to adopt this molecular knowledge to refine meningioma classification and introduce molecular algorithms that can guide prediction and therapeutics for this tumor type. Animal models that recapitulate meningiomas faithfully are in critical need to test new therapeutics to facilitate rapid-cycle translation to clinical trials. Here we review the most up-to-date knowledge of molecular alterations that provide insight into meningioma behavior and are ready for application to clinical trial investigation, and highlight the landscape of available preclinical models in meningiomas
