    Measurement of the flavour-specific CP-violating asymmetry a(sl)(s) in B-s(0) decays

    The CP-violating asymmetry a(sl)(s), is studied using semileptonic decays of B-s(0) and (B) over bar (0)(s) mesons produced in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV at the LHC, exploiting a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb(-1). The reconstructed final states are D-s(+/-)mu(+/-)(s), with the D-s(+/-) particle decaying in the phi pi(+/-) mode. The D-s(+/-)mu(+/-)(s) yields are summed over B-s(0) and (B) over bar (0)(s) initial states, and integrated with respect to decay time. Data-driven methods are used to measure efficiency ratios. We obtain a(sl)(s) = (-0.06 +/- 0.50 +/- 0.36)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic

    Measurement of the lifetime of the B-c(+) meson using the B-c(+) -> J/psi pi(+) decay mode

    The difference in total widths between the B-c(+) and B+ mesons is measured using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment in 7 and 8 TeV centre-of-mass energy proton-proton collisions at the LHC. Through the study of the time evolution of B-c(+) -> J/psi pi(+) and B+ -> J/psi K+ decays, the width difference is measured to be Delta Gamma = Gamma(Bc+) - Gamma(Bc+) = 4.46 +/- 0.14 +/- 0.07 mm(-1) c, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The known lifetime of the B+ meson is used to convert this to a precise measurement of the B-c(+) clifetime, tau(Bc+) = 513.4 +/- 11.0 +/- 5.7 fs, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.     The first observation of the decay B-s(0) -> chi(c1)phi and a study of B-0 -> chi K-c1,K-2*(0) decays are presented. The analysis is performed using a dataset, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV.     First measurement of time-dependent CP violation in Bs0K+K B_s^0\to K^+K^- decays

    Direct and mixing-induced CP-violating asymmetries in B-s(0) -> K+K- decays are measured for the first time using a data sample of p p collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb(-1), collected with the LHCb detector at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. The results are C-KK = 0.14 +/- 0.11 +/- 0.03 and S-KK = 0.30 +/- 0.12 +/- 0.04, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The corresponding quantities are also determined for B-0 -> pi(+)pi(-) decays to be C-pi pi = -0.38 +/- 0.15 +/- 0.02 and S-pi pi = -0.71 +/- 0.13 +/- 0.02, in good agreement with existing measurements

    Measurement of the charge asymmetry in B-+/- -> phi K +/- and search for B-+/- -> phi pi(+/-) decays

    The CP-violating charge asymmetry in B-+/- -> phi K-+/- decays is measured in a sample of pp collisions at 7 TeV centre-of-mass energy, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb-1 collected by the LHCb experiment. The result is A(CP)(B-+/- -> phi K-+/-) = 0.022 +/- 0.021 +/- 0.009, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. In addition, a search for the B-+/- -> phi pi(+/-) decay mode is performed, using the B-+/- -> phi K-+/- decay rate for normalization.     Model-independent search for CP violation in D-0 > K-K+pi(-)pi(+) and D-0 -> pi(-)pi(+)pi(+)pi(-) decays

    A search for CP violation in the phase-space structures of 130 and 15 decays to the final states K-K+pi(-)pi(+) and pi(-)pi(+)pi(+)pi(-) is presented. The search is carried out with a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb(-1) collected in 2011 by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. For the K-K+pi(-)pi(+) final state, the four-body phase space is divided into 32 bins, each bin with approximately 1800 decays. The p-value under the hypothesis of no CP violation is 9.1%, and in no bin is a CP asymmetry greater than 6.5% observed. The phase space of the pi(-)pi(+)pi(+)pi(-). final state is partitioned into 128 bins, each bin with approximately 2500 decays. The p-value under the hypothesis of no CP violation is 41%, and in no bin is a CP asymmetry greater than 5.5% observed. All results are consistent with the hypothesis of no CP violation at the current sensitivity

    Measurement of the production cross section for a W boson and two b jets in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV

    The production cross section for a Wboson and two b jets is measured using proton-proton collisions at v root s = 7 TeV in a data sample collected with the CMS experiment at the LHC corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb(-1). The W + bbevents are selected in the W..decay mode by requiring a muon with transverse momentum pT> 25GeVand pseudorapidity |eta| 25GeVand |eta| < 2.4. The measured W + bbproduction cross section in the fiducial region, calculated at the level of final-state particles, is s(pp. W + bb) xB(W..) = 0.53 +/- 0.05 (stat.) +/- 0.09 (syst.) +/- 0.06 (theo.) 0.01 (lum.) pb, in agreement with the standard model prediction. In addition, kinematic distributions of the W + bbsystem are in agreement with the predictions of a simulation usingMadGraphandpythia

    Search for top-squark pairs decaying into Higgs or Z bosons in pp collisions at root s=8 TeV

    A search for supersymmetry through the direct pair production of top squarks, with Higgs (H) or Z bosons in the decay chain, is performed using a data sample of proton-proton collisions at root s = 8 TeVcollected in 2012 with the CMS detector at the LHC. The sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb(-1). The search is performed using a selection of events containing leptons and bottom-quark jets. No evidence for a significant excess of events over the standard model background prediction is observed. The results are interpreted in the context of simplified supersymmetric models with pair production of a heavier top-squark mass eigenstate (t) over tilde (2) decaying to a lighter top-squark mass eigenstate (t) over tilde (1) via either (t) over tilde (2) -> H (t) over tilde (1) or (t) over tilde (2) -> Z (t) over tilde (1), followed in both cases by (t) over tilde (1) -> t (chi) over tilde (0)(1), where (chi) over tilde (0)(1) is an undetected, stable, lightest supersymmetric particle. The interpretation is performed in the region where the mass difference between the (t) over tilde (1) and (chi) over tilde (0)(1) states is approximately equal to the top-quark mass (m((t) over tilde )1) - m((chi) over tilde 10) similar or equal to m(t)) which is not probed by searches for direct (t) over tilde (1) squark pair production. The analysis excludes top squarks with masses m((t) over tilde2) 1) < 400 GeVat a 95% confidence level

    Constraints on the Higgs boson width from off-shell production and decay to Z-boson pairs

    Constraints are presented on the total width of the recently discovered Higgs boson, Gamma(H), using its relative on-shell and off-shell production and decay rates to a pair of Z bosons, where one Z boson decays to an electron or muon pair, and the other to an electron, muon, or neutrino pair. The analysis is based on the data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2011 and 2012, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 5.1 fb(-1) at a center-of-mass energy root s = 7 TeV and 19.7 fb(-1) at root s = 8 TeV. A simultaneous maximum likelihood fit to the measured kinematic distributions near the resonance peak and above the Z-boson pair production threshold leads to an upper limit on the Higgs boson width of Gamma(H) < 22 MeV at a 95% confidence level, which is 5.4 times the expected value in the standard model at the measured mass of m(H) = 125.6 GeV

    A measurement of inclusive ZZ production cross section and constraints on anomalous triple gauge couplings in proton-proton collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 8 TeV are presented. A data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.6 inverse-femtobarns was collected with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The measurements are performed in the leptonic decay modes ZZllllZZ \to lll'l', where l=e,μl = e, \mu and l=e,μ,τl' = e, \mu, \tau. The measured total cross section, σ(ppZZ)=7.7±0.5(stat.)0.4+0.5(syst.)±0.4(theo.)±0.2(lum.)pb\sigma (pp \to ZZ) = 7.7 \pm 0.5 (stat.)^{+0.5}_{-0.4} (syst.) \pm 0.4 (theo.) \pm 0.2 (lum.) pb for both Z bosons produced in the mass range mZm_Z within 60 and 120 GeV, is consistent with standard model predictions. Differential cross sections are measured and well described by the theoretical predictions. The invariant mass distribution of the four-lepton system is used to set limits on anomalous ZZZ and ZZγ\gamma couplings at the 95% confidence level: f4Zf_4^Z in (-0.004,+0.004), f5Zf_5^Z in (-0.005,+0.005), f4γf_4^\gamma in (-0.004,+0.004), and f5γf_5^\gamma in (-0.005,+0.005)
