Spin-Parity Analysis of the Centrally produced KsKs system at 800 GeV
Results are presented of the spin-parity analysis on a sample of centrally
produced mesons in the reaction (p p -> p_{slow} K_s K_s p_{fast}) with 800 GeV
protons on liquid hydrogen. The spin-parity analysis in the mass region between
threshold and 1.58 GeV/c^2 shows that the (K_s K_s) system is produced mainly
in S-wave. The f_0(1500) is clearly observed in this region. Above 1.58 GeV/c^2
two solutions are possible, one with mainly S-wave and another with mainly
D-wave. This ambiguity prevents a unique determination of the spin of the

Temperature and ac Effects on Charge Transport in Metallic Arrays of Dots
We investigate the effects of finite temperature, dc pulse, and ac drives on
the charge transport in metallic arrays using numerical simulations. For finite
temperatures there is a finite conduction threshold which decreases linearly
with temperature. Additionally we find a quadratic scaling of the
current-voltage curves which is independent of temperature for finite
thresholds. These results are in excellent agreement with recent experiments on
2D metallic dot arrays. We have also investigated the effects of an ac drive as
well as a suddenly applied dc drive. With an ac drive the conduction threshold
decreases for fixed frequency and increasing amplitude and saturates for fixed
amplitude and increasing frequency. For sudden applied dc drives below
threshold we observe a long time power law conduction decay.Comment: 6 pages, 7 postscript figure
SO(3) Monopoles, Level-One Seiberg-Witten Moduli Spaces, and Witten's Conjecture in Low Degrees
We prove Witten's formula relating the Donaldson and Seiberg-Witten series
modulo powers of degree , with , for
four-manifolds obeying some mild conditions, where and are
their Euler characteristic and signature. We use the moduli space of SO(3)
monopoles as a cobordism between a link of the Donaldson moduli space of
anti-self-dual SO(3) connections and links of the moduli spaces of
Seiberg-Witten monopoles. Gluing techniques allow us to compute contributions
from Seiberg-Witten moduli spaces lying in the first (or `one-bubble') level of

Stability measurements on cored cables in normal and superfluid helium
The relative stability of LHC type cables has been measured by the direct heating of one of the individual strands with a short duration current pulse. The minimum energy required to initiate a quench has been determined for a number of cables which have a central core to increase the effective inter-strand cross-over resistance. Experiments were performed in both normal helium at 4.4 K and superfluid at 1.9 K. Conductors in general are less stable at the lower temperature when measured at the same fraction of critical current. Results show that the cored-cables, even when partially filled with solder or with a porous-metal filler exhibit a relatively low stability at currents close to the critical current. It is speculated that the high inter-strand electrical and thermal resistance inherent in these cables may effect the stability at high currents
Prevalence of Esophageal Atresia among 18 International Birth Defects Surveillance Programs
BACKGROUND: The prevalence of esophageal atresia (EA) has been shown to vary across different geographical settings. Investigation of geographical differences may provide an insight into the underlying etiology of EA. METHODS: The study population comprised infants diagnosed with EA during 1998 to 2007 from 18 of the 46 birth defects surveillance programs, members of the International Clearinghouse for Birth Defects Surveillance and Research. Total prevalence per 10,000 births for EA was defined as the total number of cases in live births, stillbirths, and elective termination of pregnancy for fetal anomaly (ETOPFA) divided by the total number of all births in the population. RESULTS: Among the participating programs, a total of 2943 cases of EA were diagnosed with an average prevalence of 2.44 (95% confidence interval [CI], 2.352.53) per 10,000 births, ranging between 1.77 and 3.68 per 10,000 births. Of all infants diagnosed with EA, 2761 (93.8%) were live births, 82 (2.8%) stillbirths, 89 (3.0%) ETOPFA, and 11 (0.4%) had unknown outcomes. The majority of cases (2020, 68.6%), had a reported EA with fistula, 749 (25.5%) were without fistula, and 174 (5.9%) were registered with an unspecified code. CONCLUSIONS: On average, EA affected 1 in 4099 births (95% CI, 1 in 39544251 births) with prevalence varying across different geographical settings, but relatively consistent over time and comparable between surveillance programs. Findings suggest that differences in the prevalence observed among programs are likely to be attributable to variability in population ethnic compositions or issues in reporting or registration procedures of EA, rather than a real risk occurrence difference. Physics with the KLOE-2 experiment at the upgraded DANE
Investigation at a --factory can shed light on several debated issues
in particle physics. We discuss: i) recent theoretical development and
experimental progress in kaon physics relevant for the Standard Model tests in
the flavor sector, ii) the sensitivity we can reach in probing CPT and Quantum
Mechanics from time evolution of entangled kaon states, iii) the interest for
improving on the present measurements of non-leptonic and radiative decays of
kaons and eta/eta mesons, iv) the contribution to understand the
nature of light scalar mesons, and v) the opportunity to search for narrow
di-lepton resonances suggested by recent models proposing a hidden dark-matter
sector. We also report on the physics in the continuum with the
measurements of (multi)hadronic cross sections and the study of gamma gamma

Geographical and temporal distribution of SARS-CoV-2 clades in the WHO European Region, January to June 2020
We show the distribution of SARS-CoV-2 genetic clades over time and between countries and outline potential genomic surveillance objectives. We applied three available genomic nomenclature systems for SARS-CoV-2 to all sequence data from the WHO European Region available during the COVID-19 pandemic until 10 July 2020. We highlight the importance of real-time sequencing and data dissemination in a pandemic situation. We provide a comparison of the nomenclatures and lay a foundation for future European genomic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2.Peer reviewe
