The production of W boson pairs in association with one jet in pp collisions at View the MathML sources=8 TeV is studied using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb−1 collected by the ATLAS detector during 2012 at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The cross section is measured in a fiducial phase-space region defined by the presence of exactly one electron and one muon, missing transverse momentum and exactly one jet with a transverse momentum above 25 GeV and a pseudorapidity of |η|<4.5|η|<4.5. The leptons are required to have opposite electric charge and to pass transverse momentum and pseudorapidity requirements. The fiducial cross section is found to be View the MathML sourceσWWfid,1-jet=136±6(stat)±14(syst)±3(lumi) fb. In combination with a previous measurement restricted to leptonic final states with no associated jets, the fiducial cross section of WW production with zero or one jet is measured to be View the MathML sourceσWWfid,≤1-jet=511±9(stat)±26(syst)±10(lumi) fb. The ratio of fiducial cross sections in final states with one and zero jets is determined to be 0.36±0.050.36±0.05. Finally, a total cross section extrapolated from the fiducial measurement of WW production with zero or one associated jet is reported. The measurements are compared to theoretical predictions and found in good agreement

The effect of B to P concentration ratio on the glass-forming ability (GFA) and soft-magnetic properties of [(Fe0.5Ni0.5)0.78B0.22 xPx]97Nb3 (x ? 0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.07 and 0.09) glassy alloys was investigated. By adjusting the concentration ratio of B to P, GFA and soft-magnetic properties are effectively improved. Bulk glassy alloys (BGAs) with diameters up to 1.5 mm were synthesized in the composition range of x ? 0.03e0.07. In addition to high GFA, the FeNi-based glassy alloys exhibit excellent soft-magnetic properties, i.e., rather low Hc of 0.7e0.95 A/m, high me of 17,200e24,300 and high saturation magnetization of 0.63e0.82 T. The [(Fe0.5Ni0.5)0.78B0.17P0.05]97Nb3 BGA exhibits high hardness of 890 kg/mm2. The improvement of GFA and soft-magnetic properties are derived from the enhanced atomic bonding nature and phase competing process in conjugation with precipitation of (Fe, Ni)23B6 phase with complex structure

al.,Experimental determination of the Hamiltonian for synchrotron motion with rf phase modulation Phys

Abstract Synchrotron motion with rf phase modulation was studied experimentally. Poincarb maps in the resonant precessing frame were obtained from the experimental data and compared with the tori of the resonant Hamiltonian. Our experimental data revealed island structure in longitudinal phase space. Experimental results for synchrotron motion excited by phase modulation at the third harmonic of the synchrotron frequency are also reported

Searches for exclusive Higgs and Z boson decays into J/psi gamma, psi (2S) gamma, and Upsilon(nS) gamma at root s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

Searches for the exclusive decays of the Higgs and Z bosons into a J/psi, psi(2S), or Upsilon(nS) (n = 1, 2, 3) meson and a photon are performed with a pp collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb(-1) collected at root s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. No significant excess of events is observed above the expected backgrounds, and 95% confidence- level upper limits on the branching fractions of the Higgs boson decays to J/psi gamma, psi(2S) gamma and Upsilon(nS) gamma of 3.5 x 10(-4), 2.0 x 10(-3), and (4.9, 5.9, 5.7) x 10(-4), respectively, are obtained assuming Standard Model production. The corresponding 95% confidence-level upper limits for the branching fractions of the Z boson decays are 2.3 x 10(-6), 4.5 x 10(-6) and (2.8, 1.7, 4.8) 10(-6), respectively. (C) 2018 The Author. Measurement of W(+/-)Z production in proton-proton collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    No full text
A study of W(+/-)Z production in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV is presented using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb(-1) collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider in 2011. In total, 317 candidates, with a background expectation of 68 +/- 10 events, are observed in double-leptonic decay final states with electrons, muons and missing transverse momentum. The total cross-section is determined to be sigma(tot)(WZ) = 19.0(-1.3)(+1.4)(stat.) +/- 0.9(syst.) +/- 0.4(lumi.) pb, consistent with the Standard Model expectation of 17.6(-1.0)(+1.1) pb. Limits on anomalous triple gauge boson couplings are derived using the transverse momentum spectrum of Z bosons in the selected events. The cross-section is also presented as a function of Z boson transverse momentum and diboson invariant mass
