Photon Physics in ALICE
We give an overview of photon physics which will be studied by the ALICE
experiment in proton-proton and heavy ion collisions at LHC. We compare
properties of ALICE photon detectors and estimate their ability to measure
neutral meson and direct photon spectra as well as gamma-hadron and gamma-jet

Prompt Photon Identification in the ALICE Experiment: The Isolation Cut Method
Submitted for publication in NIMThe ALICE experiment at LHC will detect and identify prompt photons and light neutral mesons with the PHOS and EMCal detectors. Charged particles will be detected and identified by the central tracking system. In this paper, a method to identify prompt photons and to separate them from the background of hadrons and decay photons in PHOS with the help of isolation cuts is presented
The ALICE CPV Detector
The Charged-Particle Veto (CPV) detector of ALICE at the LHC is presented. Physics motivation for the detector, its construction and operation in physics runs are shortly discussed. Readout electronics and data taking conditions are described. Special attention is focused on CPV automation via the detector control system. Different states of the detector and protection algorithms implemented into the control system are described
CASTOR: Centauro and Strange Object Research in nucleus-nucleus collisions at LHC
We describe the CASTOR detector designed to probe the very forward,
baryon-rich rapidity region in nucleus-nucleus collisions at the LHC. We
present a phenomenological model describing the formation of a QGP fireball in
a high baryochemical potential environment, and its subsequent decay into
baryons and strangelets. The model explains Centauros and the long-penetrating
component and makes predictions for the LHC.
Simulations of Centauro-type events were done. To study the response of the
apparatus to new effects different exotic species (DCC, Centauros, strangelets
etc.) were passed through the deep calorimeter. The energy deposition pattern
in the calorimeter appears to be a new clear signature of the QGP.Comment: Talk given by E. Gladysz-Dziadus for the CASTOR group, Intern.

Identification of photon-tagged jets in the ALICE experiment
The ALICE experiment at LHC will detect and identify prompt photons and light
neutral-mesons with the PHOS detector and the additional EMCal electromagnetic
calorimeter. Charged particles will be detected and identified by the central
tracking system. In this article, the possibility of studying the interaction
of jets with the nuclear medium, using prompt photons as a tool to tag jets, is
investigated by simulations. New methods to identify prompt photon-jet events

Charge separation relative to the reaction plane in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
Measurements of charge dependent azimuthal correlations with the ALICE
detector at the LHC are reported for Pb-Pb collisions at TeV. Two- and three-particle charge-dependent azimuthal correlations in
the pseudo-rapidity range are presented as a function of the
collision centrality, particle separation in pseudo-rapidity, and transverse
momentum. A clear signal compatible with a charge-dependent separation relative
to the reaction plane is observed, which shows little or no collision energy
dependence when compared to measurements at RHIC energies. This provides a new
insight for understanding the nature of the charge dependent azimuthal
