Measurement of the Charged Multiplicities in b, c and Light Quark Events from Z0 Decays
Average charged multiplicities have been measured separately in , and
light quark () events from decays measured in the SLD experiment.
Impact parameters of charged tracks were used to select enriched samples of
and light quark events, and reconstructed charmed mesons were used to select
quark events. We measured the charged multiplicities:
,
, from
which we derived the differences between the total average charged
multiplicities of or quark events and light quark events: and . We compared
these measurements with those at lower center-of-mass energies and with
perturbative QCD predictions. These combined results are in agreement with the
QCD expectations and disfavor the hypothesis of flavor-independent
fragmentation.Comment: 19 pages LaTex, 4 EPS figures, to appear in Physics Letters
A Measurement of the K0 Charge Radius and a CP Violating Asymmetry Together with a Search for CP Violating E1 Direct Photon Emission in the Rare Decay KL->pi+pi-e+e-
Using the complete KTeV data set of 5241 candidate KL->pi+pi-e+e- decays
(including an estimated background of 204+-14 events), we have measured the
coupling gCR=0.163+- 0.014(stat)+-0.023(syst) of the CP conserving charge
radius process and from it determined a K0 charge radius of
(K0)=(-0.077+-0.007(stat)+-0.011(syst)) fm**2. We have also determined a
first experimental upper limit of 0.04 (90% CL) for the ratio |g_{E1}|/|g_{M1}|
of the coupling for the E1 direct photon emission process relative to the
coupling for M1 direct photon emission process. We also report the measurement
of its associated vector form factor |gM1`|(1+
(a_1/a_2)/(M(rho)**2-M(K)**2)+2M(K)E(gamma*)) where |gM1`|=(1.11+-
0.12(stat)+-0.08(syst) and a_1/a_2 = (-0.744+-0.027(stat)0.032(syst))
GeV**2/c**2. In addition, a measurement of the manifestly CP violating
asymmetry of magnitude (13.6+- 1.4+-(stat)+-1.5(syst))% in the CP and T odd
angle phi between the decay planes of the e+e- and pi+pi- pairs in the KL
center of mass system is reported
Study of B → Xγ decays and determination of |V_(td)/V_(ts)|
Using a sample of 471×10^6 BB̅[overbar] events collected with the BABAR detector, we study the sum of seven exclusive final states B→X_(s(d))γ, where X_(s(d)) is a strange (nonstrange) hadronic system with a mass of up to 2.0 GeV/c^2. After correcting for unobserved decay modes, we obtain a branching fraction for b→dγ of (9.2±2.0(stat)±2.3(syst))×10^(-6) in this mass range, and a branching fraction for b→sγ of (23.0±0.8(stat)±3.0(syst))×10^(-5) in the same mass range. We find B[script](b→dγ)/B[script](b→sγ)=0.040±0.009(stat)±0.010(syst), from which we determine |V_(td)/V_(ts)|=0.199±0.022(stat)±0.024(syst)±0.002(th)
Measurements of the rare decay K_{L} -> e^{+} e^{-} e^{+} e^{-}
We observe 441 K_{L} -> e^{+} e^{-} e^{+} e^{-} candidate events with a
background of 4.2 events and measure B(K_{L} -> e^{+} e^{-} e^{+} e^{-}) =
(3.72 \pm 0.18(stat) \pm 0.23(syst)) \times 10^{-8} in the KTeV/E799II
experiment at Fermilab. Using the distribution of the angle between the planes
of the e^{+} e^{-} pairs, we measure the CP parameters beta_{CP} = -0.23 \pm
0.09(stat) \pm 0.02(syst) and gamma_{CP} = -0.09 \pm 0.09(stat) \pm 0.02(syst).
We also present the first detailed study of the e^{+} e^{-} invariant mass
spectrum in this decay mode.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figure
Measurement of CP observables for the decays B^± → D^0_(CP)K^±
We present a study of the decay B^- → D^0_(CP)K^±
and its charge conjugate, where D^0_CP) is reconstructed
in CP-even, CP-odd, and non-CP flavor eigenstates, based on a sample of 232 x 10^6 Y(4S) → BB decays
collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e^+e^- storage ring. We measure the partial-rate charge
asymmetries A_(CP±) and the ratios R_(CP±) of the B → D^0K decay branching fractions as measured in CP^±
and non-CP D^0 decays: A_(CP±) 0:35 ± 0.13(stat) ± 0.04(syst), A_(CP-)= -0.06 ± 0.13(stat) ±
0.04(syst), R_(CP+) = 0.90 ± 0.12(stat) ± 0.049syst), and R_(CP-) = 0:86 ± 0.10(stat) ± 0.05(syst)
Evidence for the η_b(1S) Meson in Radiative Υ(2S) Decay
We have performed a search for the η_b(1S) meson in the radiative decay of the Υ(2S) resonance using a sample of 91.6 × 10^6 Υ(2S) events recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B factory at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. We observe a peak in the photon energy spectrum at E_γ = 609.3^(+4.6)_(-4.5)(stat)±1.9(syst) MeV, corresponding to an η_b(1S) mass of 9394.2^(+4.8)_(-4.9)(stat) ± 2.0(syst) MeV/c^2. The branching fraction for the decay Υ(2S) → γη_b(1S) is determined to be [3.9 ± 1.1(stat)^(+1.1)_(-0.9)(syst)] × 10^(-4). We find the ratio of branching fractions B[Υ(2S) → γη_b(1S)]/B[Υ(3S) → γη_b(1S)]= 0.82 ± 0.24(stat)^(+0.20)_(-0.19)(syst)
Measurement of the Ratios of Branching Fractions B(Bs -> Ds pi pi pi) / B(Bd -> Dd pi pi pi) and B(Bs -> Ds pi) / B(Bd -> Dd pi)
Using 355 pb^-1 of data collected by the CDF II detector in \ppbar collisions
at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron, we study the fully
reconstructed hadronic decays B -> D pi and B -> D pi pi pi. We present the
first measurement of the ratio of branching fractions B(Bs -> Ds pi pi pi) /
B(Bd -> Dd pi pi pi) = 1.05 pm 0.10 (stat) pm 0.22 (syst). We also update our
measurement of B(Bs -> Ds pi) / B(Bd -> Dd pi) to 1.13 pm 0.08 (stat) pm 0.23
(syst) improving the statistical uncertainty by more than a factor of two. We
find B(Bs -> Ds pi) = [3.8 pm 0.3 (stat) pm 1.3 (syst)] \times 10^{-3} and B(Bs
-> Ds pi pi pi) = [8.4 pm 0.8 (stat) pm 3.2 (syst)] \times 10^{-3}.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure
Measurement of single-spin azimuthal asymmetries in semi-inclusive electroproduction of pions and kaons on a longitudinally polarised deuterium target
Single-spin asymmetries have been measured for semi-inclusive
electroproduction of , , and mesons in
deep-inelastic scattering off a longitudinally polarised deuterium target. The
asymmetries appear in the distribution of the hadrons in the azimuthal angle
around the virtual photon direction, relative to the lepton scattering
plane. The corresponding analysing powers in the moment of the
cross section are for ,
for ,
for and for . The moments are
compatible with zero for all particles.Comment: Revised version shortened 9 pages, 3 tables, 7 figure
Measurement of Branching Fraction and Dalitz Distribution for B0->D(*)+/- K0 pi-/+ Decays
We present measurements of the branching fractions for the three-body decays
B0 -> D(*)-/+ K0 pi^+/-B0 -> D(*)-/+ K*+/- using
a sample of approximately 88 million BBbar pairs collected by the BABAR
detector at the PEP-II asymmetric energy storage ring.
We measure:
B(B0->D-/+ K0 pi+/-)=(4.9 +/- 0.7(stat) +/- 0.5 (syst)) 10^{-4}
B(B0->D*-/+ K0 pi+/-)=(3.0 +/- 0.7(stat) +/- 0.3 (syst)) 10^{-4}
B(B0->D-/+ K*+/-)=(4.6 +/- 0.6(stat) +/- 0.5 (syst)) 10^{-4}
B(B0->D*-/+ K*+/-)=(3.2 +/- 0.6(stat) +/- 0.3 (syst)) 10^{-4}
From these measurements we determine the fractions of resonant events to be :
f(B0-> D-/+ K*+/-) = 0.63 +/- 0.08(stat) +/- 0.04(syst) f(B0-> D*-/+ K*+/-) =
0.72 +/- 0.14(stat) +/- 0.05(syst)Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures submitted to Phys. Rev. Let
