Factorization of Spanning Trees on Feynman Graphs
In order to use the Gaussian representation for propagators in Feynman
amplitudes, a representation which is useful to relate string theory and field
theory, one has to prove first that each - parameter (where is
the parameter associated to each propagator in the -representation of
the Feynman amplitudes) can be replaced by a constant instead of being
integrated over and second, prove that this constant can be taken equal for all
propagators of a given graph. The first proposition has been proven in one
recent letter when the number of propagators is infinite. Here we prove the
second one. In order to achieve this, we demonstrate that the sum over the
weighted spanning trees of a Feynman graph can be factorized for disjoint
parts of . The same can also be done for cuts on , resulting in a
rigorous derivation of the Gaussian representation for super-renormalizable
scalar field theories. As a by-product spanning trees on Feynman graphs can be

Regge behaviour and Regge trajectory for ladder graphs in scalar field theory
Using the gaussian representation for propagators (which can be proved to be
exact in the infinite number of loops limit) we are able to derive the Regge
behaviour for ladder graphs of field theory in a completely new way.
An analytic expression for the Regge trajectory is found in
terms of the mean-values of the Feynman -parameters.

Scalar sextet in the 331 model with right-handed neutrinos
A Higgs sextet is introduced in order to generate Dirac and Majorana neutrino
masses in the 331 model with right-handed neutrinos. As will be seen, the
present sextet introduction leads to a rich neutrino mass structure. The
smallness of neutrino masses can be achieved via, for example, a seesaw limit.
The fact that the masses of the charged leptons are not effected by their new
Yukawa couplings to the sextet is convenient for generating small neutrino

Impact parameter study of high energy elastic scattering
The imaginary part of the proton-proton elastic scattering amplitude, as measured at the ISR, is examined in impact parameter. The transformed amplitude has two important properties. First, it is very accurately Gaussian in the impact parameter from the center to two fm with very little flattening near the center. Flattening would be expected from eikonalization. Secondly, there is a tail beyong two fm with a much flatter slope. This tail in impact parameter is equivalent to the break of d[sigma]/dt at t [approximate] -0.15 GeV.We discuss the physical origin of the tail. It cannot reasonably be diffraction dissociation, since diffraction should be large where absorption is large. We suggest that the tail is due to dissociation which must be distinguished from its diffractive part, and make a physical model which gives the tail and describes d[sigma]/dt very well. Electric Field Conjugation with the Project 1640 coronagraph
The Project 1640 instrument on the 200-inch Hale telescope at Palomar
Observatory is a coronagraphic instrument with an integral field spectrograph
at the back end, designed to find young, self-luminous planets around nearby
stars. To reach the necessary contrast for this, the PALM-3000 adaptive optics
system corrects for fast atmospheric speckles, while CAL, a phase-shifting
interferometer in a Mach-Zehnder configuration, measures the quasistatic
components of the complex electric field in the pupil plane following the
coronagraphic stop. Two additional sensors measure and control low-order modes.
These field measurements may then be combined with a system model and data
taken separately using a white-light source internal to the AO system to
correct for both phase and amplitude aberrations. Here, we discuss and
demonstrate the procedure to maintain a half-plane dark hole in the image plane

Therapeutic Effects of Liposome-Enveloped Ligusticum chuanxiong Essential Oil on Hypertrophic Scars in the Rabbit Ear Model
Hypertrophic scarring, a common proliferative disorder of dermal fibroblasts, results from an overproduction of fibroblasts and excessive deposition of collagen. Although treatment with surgical excision or steroid hormones can modify the symptoms, numerous treatment-related complications have been described. In view of this, we investigated the therapeutic effects of essential oil (EO) from rhizomes of Ligusticum chuanxiong Hort. (Umbelliferae) on formed hypertrophic scars in a rabbit ear model. EO was prepared as a liposomal formulation (liposome-enveloped essential oil, LEO) and a rabbit ear model with hypertrophic scars was established. LEO (2.5, 5, and 10%) was applied once daily to the scars for 28 days. On postoperative day 56, the scar tissue was excised for masson's trichrome staining, detection of fibroblast apoptosis, assays of the levels of collagens I and III, and analysis of the mRNA expression of matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1), caspase-3 and -9, and transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1). In addition, the scar elevation index (SEI) was also determined. As a result, LEO treatment significantly alleviated formed hypertrophic scars on rabbit ears. The levels of TGF-β1, MMP-1, collagen I, and collagen III were evidently decreased, and caspase -3 and -9 levels and apoptosis cells were markedly increased in the scar tissue. SEI was also significantly reduced. Histological findings exhibited significant amelioration of the collagen tissue. These results suggest that LEO possesses the favorable therapeutic effects on formed hypertrophic scars in the rabbit ear model and may be an effective cure for human hypertrophic scars
Antimicrobial resistance among migrants in Europe: a systematic review and meta-analysis
BACKGROUND: Rates of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) are rising globally and there is concern that increased migration is contributing to the burden of antibiotic resistance in Europe. However, the effect of migration on the burden of AMR in Europe has not yet been comprehensively examined. Therefore, we did a systematic review and meta-analysis to identify and synthesise data for AMR carriage or infection in migrants to Europe to examine differences in patterns of AMR across migrant groups and in different settings. METHODS: For this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched MEDLINE, Embase, PubMed, and Scopus with no language restrictions from Jan 1, 2000, to Jan 18, 2017, for primary data from observational studies reporting antibacterial resistance in common bacterial pathogens among migrants to 21 European Union-15 and European Economic Area countries. To be eligible for inclusion, studies had to report data on carriage or infection with laboratory-confirmed antibiotic-resistant organisms in migrant populations. We extracted data from eligible studies and assessed quality using piloted, standardised forms. We did not examine drug resistance in tuberculosis and excluded articles solely reporting on this parameter. We also excluded articles in which migrant status was determined by ethnicity, country of birth of participants' parents, or was not defined, and articles in which data were not disaggregated by migrant status. Outcomes were carriage of or infection with antibiotic-resistant organisms. We used random-effects models to calculate the pooled prevalence of each outcome. The study protocol is registered with PROSPERO, number CRD42016043681. FINDINGS: We identified 2274 articles, of which 23 observational studies reporting on antibiotic resistance in 2319 migrants were included. The pooled prevalence of any AMR carriage or AMR infection in migrants was 25·4% (95% CI 19·1-31·8; I2 =98%), including meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (7·8%, 4·8-10·7; I2 =92%) and antibiotic-resistant Gram-negative bacteria (27·2%, 17·6-36·8; I2 =94%). The pooled prevalence of any AMR carriage or infection was higher in refugees and asylum seekers (33·0%, 18·3-47·6; I2 =98%) than in other migrant groups (6·6%, 1·8-11·3; I2 =92%). The pooled prevalence of antibiotic-resistant organisms was slightly higher in high-migrant community settings (33·1%, 11·1-55·1; I2 =96%) than in migrants in hospitals (24·3%, 16·1-32·6; I2 =98%). We did not find evidence of high rates of transmission of AMR from migrant to host populations. INTERPRETATION: Migrants are exposed to conditions favouring the emergence of drug resistance during transit and in host countries in Europe. Increased antibiotic resistance among refugees and asylum seekers and in high-migrant community settings (such as refugee camps and detention facilities) highlights the need for improved living conditions, access to health care, and initiatives to facilitate detection of and appropriate high-quality treatment for antibiotic-resistant infections during transit and in host countries. Protocols for the prevention and control of infection and for antibiotic surveillance need to be integrated in all aspects of health care, which should be accessible for all migrant groups, and should target determinants of AMR before, during, and after migration. Effects and acceptability of implementing improved cookstoves and heaters to reduce household air pollution: a FRESH AIR study
The objective was to evaluate the effectiveness and acceptability of locally tailored implementation of improved cookstoves/heaters in low- and middle-income countries. This interventional implementation study among 649 adults and children living in rural communities in Uganda, Vietnam and Kyrgyzstan, was performed after situational analyses and awareness programmes. Outcomes included household air pollution (PM2.5 and CO), self-reported respiratory symptoms (with CCQ and MRC-breathlessness scale), chest infections, school absence and intervention acceptability. Measurements were conducted at baseline, 2 and 6-12 months after implementing improved cookstoves/heaters. Mean PM2.5 values decrease by 31% (to 95.1 µg/m3) in Uganda (95%CI 71.5-126.6), by 32% (to 31.1 µg/m3) in Vietnam (95%CI 24.5-39.5) and by 65% (to 32.4 µg/m3) in Kyrgyzstan (95%CI 25.7-40.8), but all remain above the WHO guidelines. CO-levels remain below the WHO guidelines. After intervention, symptoms and infections diminish significantly in Uganda and Kyrgyzstan, and to a smaller extent in Vietnam. Quantitative assessment indicates high acceptance of the new cookstoves/heaters. Prevalence and correlates of zinc deficiency in pregnant Vietnamese women in Ho Chi Minh City
Background: Although Vietnam is a region with a plant-based diet that has a high zinc deficiency, epidemiological data showing how this affects pregnant women are limited. This study explores the prevalence of zinc deficiency and possible correlates in pregnant Vietnamese women in Ho Chi Minh City. Methods: This was a crosssectional study conducted at a general hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. All pregnant women who came to their first antenatal care visit from November 2011 to June 2012 were recruited. Those taking a vitamin and/or mineral supplement were excluded. Serum zinc concentrations, determined by a standard colorimetric method, of 10.7 mol/L-17.5 mol/L (70.0 g/dL-114 g/dL) were classified as normal and under 10.7 mol/L (70.0 g/dL) as zinc deficient. Results: In total, 254 pregnant women were invited and 107 (42%) participated. The mean age of participants was 29 years, and mean gestational age was 10 weeks. Median zinc concentration in serum was 13.6 mol/L, and the prevalence of zinc deficiency was 29% (95% CI=21%-39%). The daily intake of a milk product supplement was the only significant correlate of zinc deficiency of the items investigated (adjusted OR=0.40, p=0.049). Discussion: This is the first study reporting that more than 25% of pregnant Vietnamese women in Ho Chi Minh City are zinc deficient. Further academic and clinical input is needed to confirm the scale of this neglected issue and to investigate the potential of milk product supplementation in this population
Genotyping and antibiotic resistance of thermophilic Campylobacter isolated from chicken and pig meat in Vietnam
Background Campylobacter species are recognized as the most common cause of
foodborne bacterial gastroenteritis in humans. In this study nine
Campylobacter strains isolated from chicken meat and pork in Hanoi, Vietnam,
were characterized using molecular methods and tested for antibiotic
resistance. Results The nine isolates (eight C. jejuni and one C. coli) were
identified by multiplex PCR, and tested for the presence or absence of 29 gene
loci associated with virulence, lipooligosaccharide (LOS) biosynthesis and
further functions. flaA typing, multilocus sequence typing and microarray
assay investigation showed a high degree of genetic diversity among these
isolates. In all isolates motility genes (flaA, flaB, flhA, fliM),
colonization associated genes (cadF, docB), toxin production genes (cdtA,
cdtB, secD, secF), and the LOS biosynthesis gene pglB were detected. Eight
gene loci (fliY, virB11, Cje1278, Cj1434c, Cj1138, Cj1438c, Cj1440c, Cj1136)
could not be detected by PCR. A differing presence of the gene loci ciaB (22.2
%), Cje1280 (77.8 %), docC (66.7 %), and cgtB (55.6 %) was found. iamA, cdtC,
and the type 6 secretion system were present in all C. jejuni isolates but not
in C. coli. flaA typing resulted in five different genotypes within C. jejuni,
MLST classified the isolates into seven sequence types (ST-5155, ST-6736,
ST-2837, ST-4395, ST-5799, ST-4099 and ST-860). The microarray assay analysis
showed a high genetic diversity within Vietnamese Campylobacter isolates which
resulted in eight different types for C. jejuni. Antibiotic susceptibility
profiles showed that all isolates were sensitive to gentamicin and most
isolates (88.8 %) were sensitive to chloramphenicol, erythromycin and
streptomycin. Resistance rates to nalidixic acid, tetracycline and
ciprofloxacin were 88.9, 77.8 and 66.7 %, respectively. Conclusions To the
best of our knowledge, this study is the first report that shows high genetic
diversity and remarkable antibiotic resistance of Campylobacter strains
isolated from meat in Vietnam which can be considered of high public health
significance. These preliminary data show that large scale screenings are
justified to assess the relevance of Campylobacter infections on human health
