Energy stability analysis for a hybrid fluid-kinetic plasma model

In plasma physics, a hybrid fluid-kinetic model is composed of a magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) part that describes a bulk fluid component and a Vlasov kinetic theory part that describes an energetic plasma component. While most hybrid models in the plasma literature are non-Hamiltonian, this paper investigates a recent Hamiltonian variant in its two-dimensional configuration. The corresponding Hamiltonian structure is described along with its Casimir invariants. Then, the energy-Casimir method is used to derive explicit sufficient stability conditions, which imply a stable spectrum and suggest nonlinear stability

Importância da tomografia de coerência óptica e do eletrorretinograma na retinosquise senil

Retinoschisis diagnosis can be very difficult in atypical forms. Special exams are necessary to differentiate retinoschisis from other pathologies such as retinal detachment. Case Report: A 61-year-old black woman presented for routine examination. Fundus of the right eye reveled a superior periphery lesion extending to the posterior pole. The ultrassonography of the same eye showed a high reflective membrane. An inferior field absolute scotoma was detected. The OCT scan that was positioned at lesion in the outer retinal break demonstrated the fragmentation of the retinal layer. The scotopic ERG showed a reduction of the b wave amplitude of the right eye compared to the left eye (Negative electroretinogram). The multifocal ERG was normal in both eyes. The OCT demonstrated to be an useful toll to detect morphological alterations. The ERG and the absolute scotoma in the inferior field, demonstrated the retinal functional defect. A negative electroretinogram, showed a normal a wave and a reduced b wave demonstrating that the photoreceptor inner segments were relatively intact and that the initial damage in this disorder would seem to occur in the inner retinal layers. In doubtful cases especial exams are necessary and a careful investigation must confirm the diagnosis. The indications for treatment should be seriously analysed to avoid any intervention that can be harmful for the patient's prognosis

Epidemiological Patterns of Central Nervous System Neoplasms in Brazilian Vulnerable Children

Introduction: Central nervous system (CNS) neoplasms are the most common solid tumors within the pediatric population, being an important cause of death and functional losses in this age group. Although studies show that there is good evolution and adaptation of pediatric survivors in adulthood, the interaction of these individuals with social inclusion factors still worries the medical environment. Objective: To analyze the temporal trend of mortality, hospitalization and social vulnerability of children with CNS Neoplasia and correlate with social indicators. Methods: An ecological study carried out in November 2018, through the analysis of secondary data on mortality, hospital admission, social vulnerability index and social indicators of Brazil, collected in DATASUS, and the Atlas of Social Vulnerability available at the Institute of Economic Research in the period from 2010 to 2015. Results: The improvement of social variables in all Brazilian regions; There was an increase in hospitalizations for Nervous System neoplasms for the 5 to 9-year-old male in the Northeast region; To the North, in the age group 0 to 4 years the hospitalization rates were positively correlated with the IVS, negatively with the HDI and positively with the Gini index; It was possible to identify a negative correlation between the IVS and the total number of hospitalizations for the Northeast in the female sex; Regarding mortality, there was a positive correlation between total mortality and IVS in the Midwest for the male population. Conclusion: It was concluded that there was a correlation between the various social indexes (HDI, IVS and Gini index) and the incidence and mortality due to Central Nervous System neoplasms in the pediatric population. &nbsp

A novel digital PID controlled dc-dc converter

This paper presents the relationship between the dynamic characteristics and sampling frequency of digitally controlled dc-dc converter with a novel control method. In the proposed method, the calculation process of P and I-D controls is parallel. The sampling interval and points for I-D control are same to the conventional method. However, the sampling point for P control is quickly. The A-D converter can sample the output voltage during the short interval because the calculation process of P control is very simple and to important for transient response. The only sample data near the turn-off timing of PWM pulse is used. The simulation and experiment results of the output voltage against the step change of the load and changing the P control sampling frequency are discussed. As a result, it is revealed experimentally that the good transient response is obtained.2010 International Symposium on Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Automation and Motion (SPEEDAM 2010) : Pisa, Italy, 2010.06.14-2010.06.1

In Orbit Timing Calibration of the Hard X-Ray Detector on Board Suzaku

The hard X-ray detector (HXD) on board the X-ray satellite Suzaku is designed to have a good timing capability with a 61 μ\mus time resolution. In addition to detailed descriptions of the HXD timing system, results of in-orbit timing calibration and performance of the HXD are summarized. The relative accuracy of time measurements of the HXD event was confirmed to have an accuracy of 1.9×1091.9\times 10^{-9} s s1^{-1} per day, and the absolute timing was confirmed to be accurate to 360 μ\mus or better. The results were achieved mainly through observations of the Crab pulsar, including simultaneous ones with RXTE, INTEGRAL, and Swift.Comment: Accepted for publication on PASJ Vol.60, SP-1, 200

Amphioxus functional genomics and the origins of vertebrate gene regulation.

Vertebrates have greatly elaborated the basic chordate body plan and evolved highly distinctive genomes that have been sculpted by two whole-genome duplications. Here we sequence the genome of the Mediterranean amphioxus (Branchiostoma lanceolatum) and characterize DNA methylation, chromatin accessibility, histone modifications and transcriptomes across multiple developmental stages and adult tissues to investigate the evolution of the regulation of the chordate genome. Comparisons with vertebrates identify an intermediate stage in the evolution of differentially methylated enhancers, and a high conservation of gene expression and its cis-regulatory logic between amphioxus and vertebrates that occurs maximally at an earlier mid-embryonic phylotypic period. We analyse regulatory evolution after whole-genome duplications, and find that-in vertebrates-over 80% of broadly expressed gene families with multiple paralogues derived from whole-genome duplications have members that restricted their ancestral expression, and underwent specialization rather than subfunctionalization. Counter-intuitively, paralogues that restricted their expression increased the complexity of their regulatory landscapes. These data pave the way for a better understanding of the regulatory principles that underlie key vertebrate innovations

The Japanese space gravitational wave antenna: DECIGO

    Get PDF
DECi-hertz Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory (DECIGO) is the future Japanese space gravitational wave antenna. DECIGO is expected to open a new window of observation for gravitational wave astronomy especially between 0.1 Hz and 10 Hz, revealing various mysteries of the universe such as dark energy, formation mechanism of supermassive black holes, and inflation of the universe. The pre-conceptual design of DECIGO consists of three drag-free spacecraft, whose relative displacements are measured by a differential Fabry-Perot Michelson interferometer. We plan to launch two missions, DECIGO pathfinder and pre-DECIGO first and finally DECIGO in 2024
