The Exhibition as an Experiment: An Analogy and its Implications
The analogy of the exhibition as an experiment suggests innovative curatorial approaches that challenge institutional practices. This analogy has however a historical precedence in modernism when itbecame paradigmatic of the exhibitions at the Museum of ModernArt in New York in the 1940s, defining the curatorial approach of its founding director Alfred J Barr. This article considers this early useof the analogy of the exhibition as an experiment and further reflects on its redefinition at the turn of the 20th century by examining how both the notions of the exhibition and of the experiment havechanged over time. In particular, the article examines the different meanings and practices inferred by the concepts of the exhibition and the experiment in the first decades of the 20th century and in the present. It outlines how correspondences between cultural and scientific paradigms can be deployed to tease unacknowledged synergies between two modes of knowledge production (i.e. the art exhibition and the experiment) and address questions of presentness, authority and legitimacy that they imply
CMB Telescopes and Optical Systems
The cosmic microwave background radiation (CMB) is now firmly established as
a fundamental and essential probe of the geometry, constituents, and birth of
the Universe. The CMB is a potent observable because it can be measured with
precision and accuracy. Just as importantly, theoretical models of the Universe
can predict the characteristics of the CMB to high accuracy, and those
predictions can be directly compared to observations. There are multiple
aspects associated with making a precise measurement. In this review, we focus
on optical components for the instrumentation used to measure the CMB
polarization and temperature anisotropy. We begin with an overview of general
considerations for CMB observations and discuss common concepts used in the
community. We next consider a variety of alternatives available for a designer
of a CMB telescope. Our discussion is guided by the ground and balloon-based
instruments that have been implemented over the years. In the same vein, we
compare the arc-minute resolution Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) and the
South Pole Telescope (SPT). CMB interferometers are presented briefly. We
conclude with a comparison of the four CMB satellites, Relikt, COBE, WMAP, and
Planck, to demonstrate a remarkable evolution in design, sensitivity,
resolution, and complexity over the past thirty years.Comment: To appear in: Planets, Stars and Stellar Systems (PSSS), Volume 1:

Women’s responses to changes in U.S. preventive task force’s mammography screening guidelines: results of focus groups with ethnically diverse women
Background: The 2009 U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) changed mammography guidelines to recommend routine biennial screening starting at age 50. This study describes women’s awareness of, attitudes toward, and intention to comply with these new guidelines. Methods: Women ages 40–50 years old were recruited from the Boston area to participate in focus groups (k = 8; n = 77). Groups were segmented by race/ethnicity (Caucasian = 39%; African American = 35%; Latina = 26%), audio-taped, and transcribed. Thematic content analysis was used. Results: Participants were largely unaware of the revised guidelines and suspicious that it was a cost-savings measure by insurers and/or providers. Most did not intend to comply with the change, viewing screening as obligatory. Few felt prepared to participate in shared decision-making or advocate for their preferences with respect to screening. Conclusions: Communication about the rationale for mammography guideline changes has left many women unconvinced about potential disadvantages or limitations of screening. Since further guideline changes are likely to occur with advances in technology and science, it is important to help women become informed consumers of health information and active participants in shared decision-making with providers. Additional research is needed to determine the impact of the USPSTF change on women’s screening behaviors and on breast cancer outcomes

Extracellular Tau Oligomers Produce An Immediate Impairment of LTP and Memory
Non-fibrillar soluble oligomeric forms of amyloid-β peptide (oAβ) and tau proteins are likely to play a major role in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The prevailing hypothesis on the disease etiopathogenesis is that oAβ initiates tau pathology that slowly spreads throughout the medial temporal cortex and neocortices independently of Aβ, eventually leading to memory loss. Here we show that a brief exposure to extracellular recombinant human tau oligomers (oTau), but not monomers, produces an impairment of long-term potentiation (LTP) and memory, independent of the presence of high oAβ levels. The impairment is immediate as it raises as soon as 20min after exposure to the oligomers. These effects are reproduced either by oTau extracted from AD human specimens, or naturally produced in mice overexpressing human tau. Finally, we found that oTau could also act in combination with oAβ to produce these effects, as sub-toxic doses of the two peptides combined lead to LTP and memory impairment. These findings provide a novel view of the effects of tau and Aβ on memory loss, offering new therapeutic opportunities in the therapy of AD and other neurodegenerative diseases associated with Aβ and tau pathology
ANALISIS REPRESENTASI TRADISI KEMATIAN PADA NOVEL PUYA KE PUYA KARYA FAISAL ODDANG
Death tradition is a ceremonial process that is done from generation to generation as the delivery of died people before actually going to another world (immortality). One of death traditions in Indonesia that is still done and well-known to foreign countries is Rambu Solo’ in Toraja. Rambu Solo’ is done as the process of perfecting died people. Death tradition is depicted in Puya Ke Puya novel by Faisal Oddang. Based on that thing, the problem formulation in this research, are (1) how is the representation of death ceremony stages in Puya Ke Puya novel by Faisal Oddang, (2) how are the meanings of death ceremony stages in Puya Ke Puya novel by Faisal Oddang.
The method used in this research is descriptive method of analysis using literary anthropology approach. The source of data in this study is Puya Ke Puya novel by Faisal Oddang by concerning data quotations, sentences, as well as units of stories in the novel. Data found in this researh is processed through several stages, such as (1) collecting data, (2) classifying data, (3) data assessment, (4) drawing conclusion.
The result of the analysis and discussion shows that in Puya Ke Puya novel by Faisal Oddang, it is found two processes of ceremonial stages and the meaning of process stages as representation of death tradition in Rambu Solo '. Death ceremony stages are (1) before death ceremony process and (2) during death ceremony process. Before the ceremony, there are several things that are need to be done and prepared by the family including holding big family meeting to determine when the Rambu Solo’ ceremony will be held, determining the level of death ceremony, preparing or buying buffaloes and pigs, preparing the necessary equipments. The next stage is the process of death ceremony. In this stage which includes Mappassulu ', Mangriu' Batu, Mapopengkaloa, Ma'pasonglo, Tau-tau, Lantang, Mappasilaga Tedong, Mantunu Tedong and ipalao. The meaning of Rambu Solo’ ceremony stage is a process of completion of died people so that they can get to puya. If it is not celebrated, thw aoul of died people will be stuck between heaven and earth in uncertain fate or become ghosts. It is also believed that it brings misfortune for families of died people. This is the belief of Toraja people

Dark Energy Survey Year 1 Results:tomographic cross-correlations between DES galaxies and CMB lensing from SPT+Planck
International audienceWe measure the cross-correlation between redMaGiC galaxies selected from the Dark Energy Survey (DES) year 1 data and gravitational lensing of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) reconstructed from South Pole Telescope (SPT) and Planck data over 1289 deg2. When combining measurements across multiple galaxy redshift bins spanning the redshift range of 0.15<z<0.90, we reject the hypothesis of no correlation at 19.9σ significance. When removing small-scale data points where thermal Sunyaev-Zel’dovich signal and nonlinear galaxy bias could potentially bias our results, the detection significance is reduced to 9.9σ. We perform a joint analysis of galaxy-CMB lensing cross-correlations and galaxy clustering to constrain cosmology, finding Ωm=0.276-0.030+0.029 and S8=σ8Ωm/0.3=0.800-0.094+0.090. We also perform two alternate analyses aimed at constraining only the growth rate of cosmic structure as a function of redshift, finding consistency with predictions from the concordance ΛCDM model. The measurements presented here are part of a joint cosmological analysis that combines galaxy clustering, galaxy lensing and CMB lensing using data from DES, SPT and Planck

Cosmological lensing ratios with DES Y1, SPT and Planck
International audienceCorrelations between tracers of the matter density field and gravitational lensing are sensitive to the evolution of the matter power spectrum and the expansion rate across cosmic time. Appropriately defined ratios of such correlation functions, on the other hand, depend only on the angular diameter distances to the tracer objects and to the gravitational lensing source planes. Because of their simple cosmological dependence, such ratios can exploit available signal-to-noise ratio down to small angular scales, even where directly modelling the correlation functions is difficult. We present a measurement of lensing ratios using galaxy position and lensing data from the Dark Energy Survey, and CMB lensing data from the South Pole Telescope and Planck, obtaining the highest precision lensing ratio measurements to date. Relative to the concordance ΛCDM model, we find a best-fitting lensing ratio amplitude of A = 1.1 ± 0.1. We use the ratio measurements to generate cosmological constraints, focusing on the curvature parameter. We demonstrate that photometrically selected galaxies can be used to measure lensing ratios, and argue that future lensing ratio measurements with data from a combination of LSST and Stage-4 CMB experiments can be used to place interesting cosmological constraints, even after considering the systematic uncertainties associated with photometric redshift and galaxy shear estimation

Henkilöstötilinpäätös osana pörssiyhtiön henkilöstöraportointia : case: Palveluyritys Oy
Opinnäytetyön aiheena on henkilöstötilinpäätös.
Empiirisen osuuden henkilöstöä kuvaavat mittarit on valittu niiden asioiden perusteella, joiden seurannan yhtiön johto on kokenut tarpeelliseksi. Tilastot ja tunnusluvut perustuvat jo olemassa oleviin tietoihin, minkä vuoksi koko henkilöstön kattavia taulukoita ei voitu tietojen puutteellisuuden vuoksi laatia. Opinnäytetyössä tarkastellaan tilikautta 1.1.–31.12.2007, mutta osa tiedoista on tilastoitu tämän jälkeiseltä ajalta. Tietojen hyödyntäminen on perusteltua siitäkin syystä, että tutkimuksen tavoitteena on kartoittaa nykyisiä raportointimahdollisuuksia sekä luoda kehitysehdotuksia henkilöstöinformaation vaivattomampaan tuottamiseen.
Tutkimuksen keskeisenä tuloksena voidaan todeta, että case-yrityksen henkilöstöinformaatiojärjestelmien pohjalta pystytään nykyistäkin kattavammin hyödyntämään henkilöstöstä saatavaa tietoa. Osa seurantajärjestelmien kehityksestä on kuitenkin vielä työn alla. Järjestelmiin perustuva informaatio on vielä vajanaista, minkä vuoksi henkilöstön tilasta ei vielä voida saada täysin luotettavaa kuvaa järjestelmien tuottaman informaation avulla. This thesis focuses on the human resource statement. The aim of the study was to create a model for an enterprise’s first human resource statement. In the future this model will be used in the entire corporation. The study was completed with two goals in mind. The first goal was to explore the opportunities of utilising a personnel information system. The second goal was to bring forward issues that still need development in producing personnel information. The personnel information requried from a public limited company was also examined in this study.
Sources for the theoretical part of this study included literatury material and the Internet. The empirical part of the thesis is based on the analysis of information from a personnel information system. A quantitative method was utilised in this study. This means that information relating to the personnel is described with numerical information, graphics and tables.
The representational indicators of the personnel, in the empirical section, have been chosen based on factors that the case company management has experienced as useful. Statistics and key figures have been collected from already existing information. However, due to the lack of information statistics representing the entire personnel have not been possible to compile. Although this study focuses on the accounting period January 1 – December 31, 2007, some information was still compiled after this period. The reason behind the use of statistics gathered after the accounting period lies in the aim of this study. This thesis explores the possibilities of current personnel reporting and creates development proposals for easier personnel information production.
The study shows that the case company can comprehensively use the diversity of the information with the current personnel information system. However, a part of the monitoring system is still under development. Thus, the information received, based on the existing system, is incomplete. And, because the present system does not include the entire personnel of the case company, a reliable picture of the personnel situation is not possible
