    On the Origin of Metal-poor Stars in the Solar Neighborhood

    We determined the ages, the kinematic parameters and Galactic orbital parameters of six metal-poor (-2.4<[Fe/H]<-1 dex) F-type high proper motion (HPM) stars to investigate their HPM nature and origin. For the kinematical procedure, the astrometric data from the Gaia DR2 was used. High resolution ELODIE spectra of the six dwarfs were also used to obtain accurate [Fe/H] abundances and up-to-date [α\alpha/Fe] abundances. The calculations for stellar ages were based on Bayesian statistics, with the computed ages falling in the range 9.5-10.1 Gyrs. On the basis of the metallicities and ages, six HMP stars are members of halo (HD6755, HD84937, BD +42 3607) or members of the low-metallicity tail of the thick disk (HD 3567, HD 194598, HD 201891). However, Galactic orbital parameters suggest thin disk (HD 84937, HD 194598), thick disk (HD 3567, HD 201891), and halo (HD 6755, BD +42 3607) population. The dynamical analysis was also performed for the escape scenario from the candidate GCs. The tidal disruption of a dwarf galaxy was also considered to be as an alternative origin. HD 6755, HD 194598, and HD 3567 with their retrograde orbital motions are likely candidate stars for a tidally disrupted dwarf galaxy origin. However, HD 194598 relationship with NGC 6284 presents an interesting case. Its encounter velocity is low (16+/-28 km/s) and their ages and metallicities are very nearly consistent with each other at the 1σ\sigma level. The rest of the HPM sample stars have a 4% to 18% probability of encountering with selected GCs for 1.5 tidal radii.     Chromium picolinate and chromium histidinate protects against renal dysfunction by modulation of NF-κB pathway in high-fat diet fed and Streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Diabetic nephropathy is one of major complications of diabetes mellitus. Although chromium is an essential element for carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, its effects on diabetic nephropathy are not well understood. The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of chromium picolinate (CrPic) and chromium histidinate (CrHis) on nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) and nuclear factor-E2-related factor-2 (Nrf2) pathway in the rat kidney.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Male Wistar rats were divided into six groups. Group I received a standard diet (8% fat) and served as a control; Group II was fed with a standard diet and received CrPic; Group III was fed with a standard diet and received CrHis; Group IV received a high fat diet (HFD, 40% fat) for 2 weeks and then were injected with streptozotocin (STZ) (HFD/STZ); Group V was treated as group IV (HFD/STZ) but supplemented with CrPic for 12 weeks. Group VI was treated as group IV (HFD/STZ) but supplemented with CrHis.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The increased NF-κβ p65 in the HFD/STZ group was inhibited by CrPic and CrHis supplementation (<it>P </it>< 0.05). In STZ-treated rats, a significant decrease in levels of nuclear factor of kappa light polypeptide gene enhancer in B-cells inhibitor, alpha (IκBα) was found in kidney tissues when compared to control rats (<it>P </it>< 0.05). A significant increase in the levels of IκBα was observed in CrPic- and CrHis-treated rats when compared with STZ-treated rats. Renal Nrf2 levels were significantly decreased in diabetic rats compared with the control rats. There was a higher tendency for increase of kidney Nrf2 level and decrease in kidney NFκBp65 levels and 4- hydroxyl nonenal (4-HNE) protein adducts (<it>P </it>< 0.05) in diabetic rats.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Our result show that in kidney tissue CrHis/CrPic increases Nrf2 level, parallelly decreases NF-κB and partially restores IκBα levels in HFD/STZ group, suggesting that CrPic and CrHis may play a role in antioxidant defense system via the Nrf2 pathway by reducing inflammation through NF-κβ p65 inhibition. Moreover, a greater reduction in NF-κB expression and greater increases in expressions of IκBα and Nrf2 in diabetic rats supplemented with CrHis than rats supplemented with CrPic suggest that CrHis has more favorable effects than CrPic.</p

    Robot-assisted kidney transplantation with regional hypothermia using grafts with Multiple Vessels After Extracorporeal Vascular Reconstruction: results from the European Association of Urology Robotic Urology Section Working Group

    Background: Kidney transplantation using grafts with multiple vessels (GMVs) is technically demanding and may be associated with increased risk of complications or suboptimal graft function. To date, no studies have reported on robot-assisted kidney transplantation (RAKT) using GMVs. Objective: To report our experience with RAKT using GMVs from living donors, focusing on technical feasibility and early postoperative outcomes. Design, setting, and participants: We reviewed the multi-institutional, prospectively collected European Association of Urology (EAU) Robotic Urology Section (ERUS)-RAKT database to select consecutive patients undergoing RAKT from living donors using GMVs between July 2015 and January 2018. Patients undergoing RAKT using grafts with single vessels (GSVs) served as controls. In case of GMVs, ex vivo vascular reconstruction techniques were performed during bench surgery according to the case-specific anatomy. Intervention: RAKT with regional hypothermia. Outcome measurements and statistical analysis: Intraoperative outcomes and early (30 d) postoperative complications and functional results were the main study endpoints. Multivariable logistic regression analysis evaluated potential predictors of suboptimal renal function at 1 mo. Results and limitations: Overall, 148 RAKTs were performed during the study period. Of these, 21/148 (14.2%) used GMVs; in all cases, single arterial and venous anastomoses could be performed after vascular reconstruction. Median anastomoses and rewarming times did not differ significantly between the GMV and GSV groups. Total and cold ischemia times were significantly higher in the GMV cohort (112 vs 88 min, p = 0.004 and 50 vs 34 min, p = 0.003, respectively). Overall complication rate and early functional outcomes were similar among the two groups. No major intra-or postoperative complications were recorded in the GMV cohort. At multivariable analysis, use of GMVs was not significantly associated with suboptimal renal function at 1 mo. Small sample size and short follow-up represent the main study limitations. Conclusions: RAKT using GMVs from living donors is technically feasible and achieved favorable perioperative and short-term functional outcomes. Larger studies with longer follow-up are needed to confirm our findings. Patient summary: In this study, we evaluated for the first time in literature the results of RAKT from living donors using kidneys with multiple arteries and veins. We found that, in experienced centers, RAKT using kidneys with multiple vessels is feasible and achieves optimal results in terms of postoperative kidney function with a low number of postoperative complications.     Comparison of Fixed and Ramping Voltage Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy with Acute Kidney Injury Biomarkers: Prospective Randomized Clinical Study

    Objective: To compare extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) induced renal injury in patients undergoing different ESWL treatment protocols by measuring urinary tissue metalloproteinase-2 inhibitor (TIMP-2) and insulin-like growth factor binding protein 7 (IGFBP7) excretion. Materials and Methods: This prospective, randomized study was conducted between April 2016 and June 2016 in group 1 patients undergoing fixed voltage ESWL and group 2 patients undergoing ramping voltage ESWL. Urinary TIMP-2 and IGFBP7 levels were analyzed before ESWL and 2 hours after ESWL, and urinary beta- 2-microglobulin (β2-MG) and albumin were analyzed before ESWL and 1 week after ESWL to assess renal injury. The primary outcome was to compare the effect of ESWL on early renal injury with biochemical markers in the different treatment protocols, and the secondary outcome was to compare the two treatment protocols in terms of stone free rate and complications. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between groups in terms of demographic and stone characteristics. There were statistically significant differences in serum creatinine and e-GFR at baseline and one week after treatment (p0.05). Conclusion: In this prospective randomized study, we observed a significant increase in TIMP-2, IGFBP7 and combination levels after ESWL treatment in both groups, suggesting that these two biomarkers could be used to identify acute kidney injury due to ESWL. However, the comprehensive evaluation of clinical parameters and urinary markers did not differ in the rates of renal injury, success, and complications after ESWL in both protocols

    Nurses' perceptions of online continuing education

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>There is increasing attention to online learning as a convenient way of getting professional training. The number and popularity of online nursing continuing education programs are increasing rapidly in many countries. Understanding these may contribute to designing these programs to maximize success. Also, knowing the perceptions and preferences in online learning aids development and orientation of online programs. The aims of this study are to show nurses' perceptions of online continuing education and to determine perceptions of various groups; area groups, working companies, frequency of computer usage and age.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The survey method was used in this quantitative study to reveal perception levels and relationship with related variables. Data were collected through an online instrument from a convenience sample of 1041 Registered Nurses (RNs) at an online bachelor's degree program. Descriptive and inferential analysis techniques were performed.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Nurses generally have positive perceptions about online learning (<it>X </it>= 3.86; SD = 0.48). A significant difference was seen between nurses who used computers least and those with the highest computer usage [<it>F </it>(3, 1033) = 3.040; <it>P </it>< .05]. Neither nurses' ages nor lengths of working experience are significantly related to perceptions of online programs (<it>r </it>= -.013; <it>P </it>> .05 and <it>r </it>= -.036; <it>P </it>> .05, respectively). Nurses' perceptions are significantly different depending on the settings where they work [<it>F </it>(3,989) = 3.193; <it>P </it>< .05]. The difference between perceptions of nurses living in urban areas (<it>X </it>= 3.82; SD = .51) and those living in rural areas (<it>X </it>= 3.88; SD = .47) was not significant [<it>t </it>(994) = -1.570, <it>P </it>> .05].</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>We found that nurses regard online learning opportunities as suitable for their working conditions and needs. Nurses should be provided with continued training through online learning alternatives, regardless of age, working experience or area of residence.</p

    Differential cross section measurements for the production of a W boson in association with jets in proton–proton collisions at √s = 7 TeV

    Measurements are reported of differential cross sections for the production of a W boson, which decays into a muon and a neutrino, in association with jets, as a function of several variables, including the transverse momenta (pT) and pseudorapidities of the four leading jets, the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta (HT), and the difference in azimuthal angle between the directions of each jet and the muon. The data sample of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV was collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb[superscript −1]. The measured cross sections are compared to predictions from Monte Carlo generators, MadGraph + pythia and sherpa, and to next-to-leading-order calculations from BlackHat + sherpa. The differential cross sections are found to be in agreement with the predictions, apart from the pT distributions of the leading jets at high pT values, the distributions of the HT at high-HT and low jet multiplicity, and the distribution of the difference in azimuthal angle between the leading jet and the muon at low values.United States.     Risk portfolio on modern finance has become increasingly technical, requiring the use of sophisticated mathematical tools in both research and practice. Since companies cannot insure themselves completely against risk, as human incompetence in predicting the future precisely that written in Al-Quran surah Luqman verse 34, they have to manage it to yield an optimal portfolio. The objective here is to minimize the variance among all portfolios, or alternatively, to maximize expected return among all portfolios that has at least a certain expected return. Furthermore, this study focuses on optimizing risk portfolio so called Markowitz MVO (Mean-Variance Optimization). Some theoretical frameworks for analysis are arithmetic mean, geometric mean, variance, covariance, linear programming, and quadratic programming. Moreover, finding a minimum variance portfolio produces a convex quadratic programming, that is minimizing the objective function ðð¥with constraintsð ð 𥠥 ðandð´ð¥ = ð. The outcome of this research is the solution of optimal risk portofolio in some investments that could be finished smoothly using MATLAB R2007b software together with its graphic analysis

    Juxtaposing BTE and ATE – on the role of the European insurance industry in funding civil litigation

    One of the ways in which legal services are financed, and indeed shaped, is through private insurance arrangement. Two contrasting types of legal expenses insurance contracts (LEI) seem to dominate in Europe: before the event (BTE) and after the event (ATE) legal expenses insurance. Notwithstanding institutional differences between different legal systems, BTE and ATE insurance arrangements may be instrumental if government policy is geared towards strengthening a market-oriented system of financing access to justice for individuals and business. At the same time, emphasizing the role of a private industry as a keeper of the gates to justice raises issues of accountability and transparency, not readily reconcilable with demands of competition. Moreover, multiple actors (clients, lawyers, courts, insurers) are involved, causing behavioural dynamics which are not easily predicted or influenced. Against this background, this paper looks into BTE and ATE arrangements by analysing the particularities of BTE and ATE arrangements currently available in some European jurisdictions and by painting a picture of their respective markets and legal contexts. This allows for some reflection on the performance of BTE and ATE providers as both financiers and keepers. Two issues emerge from the analysis that are worthy of some further reflection. Firstly, there is the problematic long-term sustainability of some ATE products. Secondly, the challenges faced by policymakers that would like to nudge consumers into voluntarily taking out BTE LEI
