Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)Objective. To identify the frequency of obesity and metabolic complications in child and adolescent users of risperidone. Potential associations with clinical parameters and SNPs of the HTR2C, DRD2, LEP, LEPR, MC4R, and CYP2D6 genes were analyzed. Methods. Samples from 120 risperidone users (8-20 years old) were collected and SNPs were analyzed, alongside assessment of chronological and bone ages, prescribed and weight-adjusted doses, use of other psychotropic drugs, waist circumference, BMI z-scores, blood pressure, HOMA-IR index, fasting levels of serum glucose, insulin, cholesterol, triglycerides, transaminases, and leptin. Results. Thirty-two (26.7%) patients were overweight and 5 (4.2%) obese. Hypertension was recorded in 8 patients (6.7%), metabolic syndrome in 6 (5%), and increased waist circumference in 20 (16.7%). The HOMA-IR was high for 22 patients (18.3%), while total cholesterol and triglycerides were high in 20 (16.7%) and 41 (34.2%) patients, respectively. SNP associations were found for LEP, HTR2C, and CYP2D6 with BMI; CYP2D6 with blood pressure, ALT, and HOMA-IR; HTR2C and LEPR with leptin levels; MC4R and DRD2 with HOMA-IR; HTR2C with WC; and LEP with ALT. Conclusions. Although not higher than in the general pediatric population, a high frequency of patients was overweight/obese, with abnormalities in metabolic parameters and some pharmacogenetic associations.

Abstract: Different concentrations of Alizarin Red Sodium (ARS) and different time of immersion bath were tested for chemical marking of Piracanjuba Brycon orbignyanus juveniles. One hundred and twenty animals were distributed in ten treatments and two control groups. Short time (5 minutes) and medium time of immersion bath (4h) marking procedures were tested with and without osmotic induction before the immersion bath. This osmotic induction consisted of immersing the animals in saline solution (30 g of NaCl / L) for 10 minutes, and immediately transferred to a tank containing the ARS solution to be tested. In long-term tests (18h) previous osmotic induction was not tested. The tested ARS concentration varied according to the time of exposure to the product: a) short time (500 mg / L and 150 mg / L); b) medium time (150 mg / L and 50 mg / L); c) long-term (50 mg / L; 15 mg / L). The chemical marking efficiency was evaluated 10 days after the immersion baths. For this purpose, three individuals were randomly taken from each treatment, from which samples were removed from four different structures of each one (caudal, anal and pectoral fin rays, as well as scales). The presence of the marks and generation of the corresponding images was made by using a Leica Microsystems LAS AF Lite fluorescence microscope. The fluorescence intensity was evaluated using the imageJ program in gray values (CV). The juveniles of Piracanjuba tolerated well the treatments to which they were submitted without presenting mortality. Osmotic induction treatment induced autofluorescence and did not increase the intensity of chemical marking in Piracanjuba. Without the influence of previous osmotic induction, it was found the effective concentration for chemical marking of Piracanjuba juveniles in short, medium and long time duration baths. Similar intensity of chemical markings were obtained in a treatment made with Piracanjuba's 5 minutes exposure to the product (150mg ARS / L), or using only 10% of this amount when the exposure time is prolonged for 18 hours. Both scales and fins rays were chemically marked by exposure to red alizarin in Piracanjuba, but fins rays showed the highest fluorescence intensity. Red Alizarin proved to be efficient in chemical marking of Brycon orbignyanus juveniles

ABSTRACT The purpose was to analyze the effect of the ingestion of two amounts of water in the autonomic modulation. A total of 26 men aged 18-30 years under went 2 days of intervention and evaluation with 24 hours in between. The protocol consisted of the intake of 250 or 500 mL of water in a random order. To assess the initial transient HR during dynamic exercise, the cardiac vagal index was obtained using a 4-second exercise test during the pre- and post-ingestion periods (5, 10, 20, and 30 minutes). To evaluate autonomic modulation at home, HRV value 30 minutes after water intake was used when HR at rest was registered. The results shows: Five minutes after the water intake, the initial transient HR was increased (p = 0.02) with no difference in effect of the ingested volumes of water (p = 0.8). In HRV, there was no difference between the intake volumes in the time or frequency domains. There were differences in HR rest after 20 minutes compared to at other times (p < 0.05). In conclusion the results showed no difference in initial transient HR, HRV, or HR rest after the intake of 250 versus 500 mL of room temperature water in healthy individuals. However, resting initial transient HR and HR rest values differed among the analyzed times.
</div
