Two-particle correlations in azimuthal angle and pseudorapidity in inelastic p + p interactions at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron
Results on two-particle ÎηÎÏ correlations in inelastic p + p interactions at 20, 31, 40, 80, and 158 GeV/c are presented. The measurements were performed using the large acceptance NA61/SHINE hadron spectrometer at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. The data show structures which can be attributed mainly to effects of resonance decays, momentum conservation, and quantum statistics. The results are compared with the Epos and UrQMD models.ISSN:1434-6044ISSN:1434-605
Erratum to: Measurements of Îâ and Î ÂŻ+ production in protonâproton interactions at âsN N = 17.3 GeV in the NA61/SHINE experiment
his Erratum replaces incorrect plots shown in Fig. 7 with the corrected ones. In the publication, the NA57 [1] ratios of Îâ and ÎÂŻÂŻÂŻÂŻ+ to the number of wounded nucleons at âšNWâ©=349 by mistake were plotted at the wrong values. The ratios were calculated and plotted by mistake using âšNWâ©=249.
The correct normalization does not change the conclusions of the paper. The correctly normalized results are presented in Fig. 7
Measurement of electrons from heavy-flavour hadron decays in pâPb collisions at âsNN = 5.02 TeV
The production of electrons from heavy-flavour hadron decays was measured as a function of transverse momentum (pT) in minimum-bias pâPb collisions at âsNN = 5.02 TeV using the ALICE detector at the LHC. The measurement covers the pT interval 0.5 < pT < 12 GeV/c and the rapidity range â1.065 < ycms < 0.135 in the centre-of-mass reference frame. The contribution of electrons from background sources was subtracted using an invariant mass approach. The nuclear modification factor RpPb was calculated by comparing the pT-differential invariant cross section in pâPb collisions to a pp reference at the same centre-of-mass energy, which was obtained by interpolating measurements at âs = 2.76 TeV and âs = 7 TeV. The RpPb is consistent with unity within uncertainties of about 25%, which become larger for pT below 1 GeV/c. The measurement shows that heavy-flavour production is consistent with binary scaling, so that a suppression in the high-pT yield in PbâPb collisions has to be attributed to effects induced by the hot medium produced in the final state. The data in pâPb collisions are described by recent model calculations that include cold nuclear matter effects
Ï production in pâPb collisions at âs=8.16 TeV
Ï production in pâPb interactions is studied at the centre-of-mass energy per nucleonânucleon collision âsNN = 8.16 TeV with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC. The measurement is performed reconstructing bottomonium resonances via their dimuon decay channel, in the centre-of-mass rapidity intervals 2.03 < ycms < 3.53 and â4.46 < ycms < â2.96, down to zero transverse momentum. In this work, results on the Ï(1S) production cross section as a function of rapidity and transverse momentum are presented. The corresponding nuclear modification factor shows a suppression of the Ï(1S) yields with respect to pp collisions, both at forward and backward rapidity. This suppression is stronger in the low transverse momentum region and shows no significant dependence on the centrality of the interactions. Furthermore, the Ï(2S) nuclear modification factor is evaluated, suggesting a suppression similar to that of the Ï(1S). A first measurement of the Ï(3S) has also been performed. Finally, results are compared with previous ALICE measurements in pâPb collisions at âsNN = 5.02 TeV and with theoretical calculations.publishedVersio
Lambda(+)(C) production in pb-pb collisions at root S-NN=5.02 TeV
A measurement of the production of prompt +cbaryons in PbâPb collisions at âsNN=5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC is reported. The +cand âcwere reconstructed at midrapidity (|y| <0.5) via the hadronic decay channel +câpK0S(and charge conjugate) in the transverse momentum and centrality intervals 6 <pT<12 GeV/cand 0â80%. The +c/D0ratio, which is sensitive to the charm quark hadronisation mechanisms in the medium, is measured and found to be larger than the ratio measured in minimum-bias pp collisions at âs=7TeV and in pâPb collisions at âsNN=5.02 TeV. In particular, the values in pâPb and PbâPb collisions differ by about two standard deviations of the combined statistical and systematic uncertainties in the common pTinterval covered by the measurements in the two collision systems. The +c/D0ratio is also compared with model calculations including different implementations of charm quark hadronisation. The measured ratio is reproduced by models implementing a pure coalescence scenario, while adding a fragmentation contribution leads to an underestimation. The +cnuclear modification factor, RAA, is also presented. The measured values of the RAAof +c, D+sand non-strange D mesons are compatible within the combined statistical and systematic uncertainties. They show, however, a hint of a hierarchy (RD0AA<RD+sAA<R +cAA), conceivable with a contribution from coalescence mechanisms to charm hadron formation in the medium
Î c+ production in PbâPb collisions at s NN =5.02 TeV
AA measurement of the production of prompt Î c + baryons in PbâPb collisions at s NN =5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC is reported. The Î c + and Î⟠c â were reconstructed at midrapidity (|y|<0.5) via the hadronic decay channel Î c + âpK S 0 (and charge conjugate) in the transverse momentum and centrality intervals
Coherent J/psi photoproduction at forward rapidity in ultra-peripheral Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN)=5.02 TeV
The ALICE collaboration performed the first rapidity-differential measurement of J/psi coherent photoproduction in ultra-peripheral Pb\u2013Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy sqrt(sNN) = 5.02 TeV. The J/psi is detected via its dimuon decay in the forward rapidity region (-4.0 < y < -2.5) for events where the hadronic activity is required to be minimal. The analysis is based on an event sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 750 \u3bcb 121. The cross section for J/psi coherent production is presented in six rapidity bins. The results are compared with theoretical models for J/psi coherent photoproduction. These comparisons indicate that gluon shadowing effects play a role in the photoproduction process. The ratio of psi' to J/psi coherent photoproduction cross sections was measured and found to be consistent with that measured for photoproduction off protons

Global baryon number conservation encoded in net-proton fluctuations measured in PbâPb collisions at âsNN=2.76 TeV
Experimental results are presented on event-by-event net-proton fluctuation measurements in PbâPb collisions at âsNN=2.76 TeV, recorded by the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC. These measurements have as their ultimate goal an experimental test of Lattice QCD (LQCD) predictions on second and higher order cumulants of net-baryon distributions to search for critical behavior near the QCD phase boundary. Before confronting them with LQCD predictions, account has to be taken of correlations stemming from baryon number conservation as well as fluctuations of participating nucleons. Both effects influence the experimental measurements and are usually not considered in theoretical calculations. For the first time, it is shown that event-by-event baryon number conservation leads to subtle long-range correlations arising from very early interactions in the collisions
