OS RELEVOS CALCÁRIOS DA REGIÃO CENTRAL DO BARROCAL ALGARVIO (SUL DE PORTUGAL) - UM MODELO TECTÓNICO The limestones reliefs of the Algarve Barrocal (south Portugal) – a tectonic model
Several Mesozoic limestone elevations of E-W elongated shape rise up in the central region of the Algarve Barrocal (Portuguese southwestern margin). Tectonic geomorphology suggests that these reliefs correspond to right lateral strike-slip contractional duplexes of a large, NW-SE trending, shear zone, with a pronounced topographic expression, whose southern boundary, located southeast of the Serra de Monchique hill, is defined by the São Marcos–Quarteira Fault Zone
Expanding and Collapsing Scalar Field Thin Shell
This paper deals with the dynamics of scalar field thin shell in the
Reissner-Nordstrm geometry. The Israel junction conditions between
Reissner-Nordstrm spacetimes are derived, which lead to the equation
of motion of scalar field shell and Klien-Gordon equation. These equations are
solved numerically by taking scalar field model with the quadratic scalar
potential. It is found that solution represents the expanding and collapsing
scalar field shell. For the better understanding of this problem, we
investigate the case of massless scalar field (by taking the scalar field
potential zero). Also, we evaluate the scalar field potential when is an
explicit function of . We conclude that both massless as well as massive
scalar field shell can expand to infinity at constant rate or collapse to zero
size forming a curvature singularity or bounce under suitable conditions.Comment: 15 pages, 11 figure
Critical Collapse of Cylindrically Symmetric Scalar Field in Four-Dimensional Einstein's Theory of Gravity
Four-dimensional cylindrically symmetric spacetimes with homothetic
self-similarity are studied in the context of Einstein's Theory of Gravity, and
a class of exact solutions to the Einstein-massless scalar field equations is
found. Their local and global properties are investigated and found that they
represent gravitational collapse of a massless scalar field. In some cases the
collapse forms black holes with cylindrical symmetry, while in the other cases
it does not. The linear perturbations of these solutions are also studied and
given in closed form. From the spectra of the unstable eigen-modes, it is found
that there exists one solution that has precisely one unstable mode, which may
represent a critical solution, sitting on a boundary that separates two
different basins of attraction in the phase space.Comment: Some typos are corrected. The final version to appear in Phys. Rev.
Comparative approach for assessing the soil quality in an urban conservation unit
Received: August 16th, 2023 ; Accepted: October 30th, 2023 ; Published: November 6th, 2023 ; Correspondence: [email protected] study aimed to verify the quality of the soil according to different stages of forest
regeneration. Urban conservation units can be of great importance in land management and in the
sustainable development process of cities. Monitoring soil quality in these spaces can help to
define strategies in the forest recovery process. A management performance evaluation method
and consequent soil quality was applied, using data envelopment analysis (DEA). Soil was
collected in the three stages of forest regeneration observed, land with established forests,
reforested land, and open land, at three different depths. In the set of 54 analyzed observations,
soils with low levels of fertility were verified. However, an area with reforested land showed the
best performance in maximizing the selected variables and consequently better soil quality scores.
The open lands showed the lowest performance in soil conservation. In this way, the revealed
performance scores accompanied the Sum of Exchangeable Bases and Organic Matter values.
This quality score can help to define soil management strategies, which may be applicable to a
wider audience and wider contexts in environmental management
Inclusive cross section and double helicity asymmetry for \pi^0 production in p+p collisions at sqrt(s)=200 GeV: Implications for the polarized gluon distribution in the proton
The PHENIX experiment presents results from the RHIC 2005 run with polarized
proton collisions at sqrt(s)=200 GeV, for inclusive \pi^0 production at
mid-rapidity. Unpolarized cross section results are given for transverse
momenta p_T=0.5 to 20 GeV/c, extending the range of published data to both
lower and higher p_T. The cross section is described well for p_T < 1 GeV/c by
an exponential in p_T, and, for p_T > 2 GeV/c, by perturbative QCD. Double
helicity asymmetries A_LL are presented based on a factor of five improvement
in uncertainties as compared to previously published results, due to both an
improved beam polarization of 50%, and to higher integrated luminosity. These
measurements are sensitive to the gluon polarization in the proton, and exclude
maximal values for the gluon polarization.Comment: 375 authors, 7 pages, 3 figures. Submitted to Phys. Rev. D, Rapid

Measurement of Bottom versus Charm as a Function of Transverse Momentum with Electron-Hadron Correlations in p+p Collisions at sqrt(s)=200 GeV
The momentum distribution of electrons from semi-leptonic decays of charm and
bottom for mid-rapidity |y|<0.35 in p+p collisions at sqrt(s)=200 GeV is
measured by the PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC)
over the transverse momentum range 2 < p_T < 7 GeV/c. The ratio of the yield of
electrons from bottom to that from charm is presented. The ratio is determined
using partial D/D^bar --> e^{+/-} K^{-/+} X (K unidentified) reconstruction. It
is found that the yield of electrons from bottom becomes significant above 4
GeV/c in p_T. A fixed-order-plus-next-to-leading-log (FONLL) perturbative
quantum chromodynamics (pQCD) calculation agrees with the data within the
theoretical and experimental uncertainties. The extracted total bottom
production cross section at this energy is \sigma_{b\b^bar}= 3.2

Formation of dense partonic matter in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC: Experimental evaluation by the PHENIX collaboration
Extensive experimental data from high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions were
recorded using the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider
(RHIC). The comprehensive set of measurements from the first three years of
RHIC operation includes charged particle multiplicities, transverse energy,
yield ratios and spectra of identified hadrons in a wide range of transverse
momenta (p_T), elliptic flow, two-particle correlations, non-statistical
fluctuations, and suppression of particle production at high p_T. The results
are examined with an emphasis on implications for the formation of a new state
of dense matter. We find that the state of matter created at RHIC cannot be
described in terms of ordinary color neutral hadrons.Comment: 510 authors, 127 pages text, 56 figures, 1 tables, LaTeX. Submitted
