On the Tomography of Networks and Multicast Trees
In this paper we model the tomography of scale free networks by studying the
structure of layers around an arbitrary network node. We find, both
analytically and empirically, that the distance distribution of all nodes from
a specific network node consists of two regimes. The first is characterized by
rapid growth, and the second decays exponentially. We also show that the nodes
degree distribution at each layer is a power law with an exponential cut-off.
We obtain similar results for the layers surrounding the root of multicast
trees cut from such networks, as well as the Internet. All of our results were
obtained both analytically and on empirical Interenet data
Elliptic flow of charged pions, protons and strange particles emitted in Pb+Au collisions at top SPS energy
Differential elliptic flow spectra v2(pT) of \pi-, K0short, p, \Lambda have
been measured at \sqrt(s NN)= 17.3 GeV around midrapidity by the
CERN-CERES/NA45 experiment in mid-central Pb+Au collisions (10% of
\sigma(geo)). The pT range extends from about 0.1 GeV/c (0.55 GeV/c for
\Lambda) to more than 2 GeV/c. Protons below 0.4 GeV/c are directly identified
by dE/dx. At higher pT, proton elliptic flow v2(pT) is derived as a
constituent, besides \pi+ and K+, of the elliptic flow of positive pion
candidates. The retrieval requires additional inputs: (i) of the particle
composition, and (ii) of v2(pT) of positive pions. For (i), particle ratios
obtained by NA49 were adapted to CERES conditions; for (ii), the measured
v2(pT) of negative pions is substituted, assuming \pi+ and \pi- elliptic flow
magnitudes to be sufficiently close. The v2(pT) spectra are compared to
ideal-hydrodynamics calculations. In synopsis of the series \pi- - K0short - p
- \Lambda, flow magnitudes are seen to fall with decreasing pT progressively
even below hydro calculations with early kinetic freeze-out (Tf= 160 MeV)
leaving not much time for hadronic evolution. The proton v2(pT) data show a
downward swing towards low pT with excursions into negative v2 values. The
pion-flow isospin asymmetry observed recently by STAR at RHIC, invalidating in
principle our working assumption, is found in its impact on proton flow
bracketed from above by the direct proton flow data, and not to alter any of
our conclusions. Results are discussed in perspective of recent viscous

Azimuthal dependence of pion source radii in Pb+Au collisions at 158 A GeV
We present results of a two-pion correlation analysis performed with the
Au+Pb collision data collected by the upgraded CERES experiment in the fall of
2000. The analysis was done in bins of the reaction centrality and the pion
azimuthal emission angle with respect to the reaction plane. The pion source,
deduced from the data, is slightly elongated in the direction perpendicular to
the reaction plane, similarly as was observed at the AGS and at RHIC.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure
Gap structure in the electron-doped Iron-Arsenide Superconductor Ba(Fe0.92Co0.08)2As2: low-temperature specific heat study
We report the field and temperature dependence of the low-temperature
specific heat down to 400 mK and in magnetic fields up to 9 T of the
electron-doped Ba(Fe0.92Co0.08)2As2 superconductor. Using the phonon specific
heat obtained from pure BaFe2As2 we find the normal state Sommerfeld
coefficient to be 18 mJ/mol.K^2 and a condensation energy of 1.27 J/mol. The
temperature dependence of the electronic specific heat clearly indicate the
presence of the low-energy excitations in the system. The magnetic field
variation of field-induced specific heat cannot be described by single clean s-
or d-wave models. Rather, the data require an anisotropic gap scenario which
may or may not have nodes. We discuss the implications of these results.Comment: New Journal of Physics in press, 10 pages, 5 figure
Effective Rheology of Bubbles Moving in a Capillary Tube
We calculate the average volumetric flux versus pressure drop of bubbles
moving in a single capillary tube with varying diameter, finding a square-root
relation from mapping the flow equations onto that of a driven overdamped
pendulum. The calculation is based on a derivation of the equation of motion of
a bubble train from considering the capillary forces and the entropy production
associated with the viscous flow. We also calculate the configurational
probability of the positions of the bubbles.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur
Elliptic flow of charged particles in Pb-Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV
We report the first measurement of charged particle elliptic flow in Pb-Pb
collisions at 2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector at the CERN Large Hadron
Collider. The measurement is performed in the central pseudorapidity region
(||<0.8) and transverse momentum range 0.2< < 5.0 GeV/. The
elliptic flow signal v, measured using the 4-particle correlation method,
averaged over transverse momentum and pseudorapidity is 0.087 0.002
(stat) 0.004 (syst) in the 40-50% centrality class. The differential
elliptic flow v reaches a maximum of 0.2 near = 3
GeV/. Compared to RHIC Au-Au collisions at 200 GeV, the elliptic flow
increases by about 30%. Some hydrodynamic model predictions which include

Modification of jet-like correlations in Pb-Au collisions at 158A GeV/c
Results of a two-particle correlation analysis of high- charged
particles in Pb-Au collisions at 158 GeV/ are presented. The data have
been recorded by the CERES experiment at the CERN-SPS. The correlations are
studied as function of transverse momentum, particle charge and collision
centrality. We observe a jet-like structure in the vicinity of a high-
trigger particle and a broad back-to-back distribution. The yields of
associated particles per trigger show a strong dependence on the
trigger/associate charge combination. A comparison to PYTHIA confirms the
jet-like pattern at the near-side but suggests a strong modification at the
away-side, implying significant energy transfer of the hard-scattered parton to

Neutron emission from electromagnetic dissociation of Pb nuclei at √ s NN = 2.76 TeV measured with the ALICE ZDC
The ALICE Zero Degree Calorimeter system (ZDC) is composed of two identical sets of calorimeters, placed at opposite sides with respect to the interaction point, 114 meters away from it, complemented by two small forward electromagnetic calorimeters (ZEM). Each set of detectors consists of a neutron (ZN) and a proton (ZP) ZDC. They are placed at zero degrees with respect to the LHC axis and allow to detect particles emitted close to beam direction, in particular neutrons and protons emerging from hadronic heavy-ion collisions (spectator nucleons) and those emitted from electromagnetic processes. For neutrons emitted by these two processes, the ZN calorimeters have nearly 100% acceptance. During the √ sNN = 2.76 TeV Pb-Pb data-taking, the ALICE Collaboration studied forward neutron emission with a dedicated trigger, requiring a minimum energy deposition in at least one of the two ZN. By exploiting also the information of the two ZEM calorimeters it has been possible to separate the contributions of electromagnetic and hadronic processes and to study single neutron vs. multiple neutron emission. The measured cross sections of single and mutual electromagnetic dissociation of Pb nuclei at √ s NN = 2.76 TeV, with neutron emission, are σ single EMD = 187:4 ± 0.2 (stat.)-11.2 +13.2 (syst.) b and σmutual EMD = 5.7 ± 0.1 (stat.) ±0.4 (syst.) b, respectively [1]. This is the first measurement of electromagnetic dissociation of 208Pb nuclei at the LHC energies, allowing a test of electromagnetic dissociation theory in a new energy regime. Measurement of event background fluctuations for charged particle jet reconstruction in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
The effect of event background fluctuations on charged particle jet
reconstruction in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV has been
measured with the ALICE experiment. The main sources of non-statistical
fluctuations are characterized based purely on experimental data with an
unbiased method, as well as by using single high particles and
simulated jets embedded into real Pb-Pb events and reconstructed with the
anti- jet finder. The influence of a low transverse momentum cut-off
on particles used in the jet reconstruction is quantified by varying the
minimum track between 0.15 GeV/ and 2 GeV/. For embedded jets
reconstructed from charged particles with GeV/, the
uncertainty in the reconstructed jet transverse momentum due to the heavy-ion
background is measured to be 11.3 GeV/ (standard deviation) for the 10% most
central Pb-Pb collisions, slightly larger than the value of 11.0 GeV/
measured using the unbiased method. For a higher particle transverse momentum
threshold of 2 GeV/, which will generate a stronger bias towards hard
fragmentation in the jet finding process, the standard deviation of the
fluctuations in the reconstructed jet transverse momentum is reduced to 4.8-5.0
GeV/ for the 10% most central events. A non-Gaussian tail of the momentum
uncertainty is observed and its impact on the reconstructed jet spectrum is
evaluated for varying particle momentum thresholds, by folding the measured
