    Study of molecular spin-crossover complex Fe(phen)2(NCS)2 thin films

    We report on the growth by evaporation under high vacuum of high-quality thin films of Fe(phen)2(NCS)2 (phen=1,10-phenanthroline) that maintain the expected electronic structure down to a thickness of 10 nm and that exhibit a temperature-driven spin transition. We have investigated the current-voltage characteristics of a device based on such films. From the space charge-limited current regime, we deduce a mobility of 6.5x10-6 cm2/V?s that is similar to the low-range mobility measured on the widely studied tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminium organic semiconductor. This work paves the way for multifunctional molecular devices based on spin-crossover complexes

    Le roman d'entreprise: breaking the silence

    This article looks at three recent French novels novels in order to explore key themes in what has become known as the roman d’entreprise: Pierre Mari’s RĂ©solution (2005), Nathalie Kuperman’s Nous Ă©tions des ĂȘtres vivants (2010) and Thierry Beinstingel’s Retour aux mots sauvages (2010). The figure of the entreprise functions both as a fictional representation of the post-Fordist workplace environment in companies such as France TĂ©lĂ©com, and also as a means of tackling wider issues of work and social organisation in an era of neoliberal managerialism. The concepts of capitalist realism, organisational miasma and virtuality are used to analyse the ways in which the three novels convey the distinctive affective landscape of the contemporary entreprise. Fiction is used to consider the prolix and self-referential nature of the managerialist entreprise, which enables it to exert a significant influence on the individual and collective subjectivities of employees. The three novels focus on the capacity of the entreprise to capture language and impose an affect of silence on employees

    Optical transitions in magnetoelectric Ga0.6Fe1.4O3 from 0.73 to 6.45 eV

    The optical properties of polycrystalline Ga0.6Fe1.4O3 bulk are determined by spectroscopic ellipsometry from 0.73 to 6.45 eV. Complex dielectric function epsilon = epsilon(1) + i epsilon(2) spectra are obtained from the multilayer analysis. The ellipsometric data exhibit numerous optical structures, and the transition energies are accurately obtained by analyzing the second-energy derivatives of the data. The origins of the optical structures are explained in terms of Fe3+ ligand field transitions and ligand-to-metal charge transfer transitions. (C) 2012 American Vacuum Society.     Reduced leakage currents and possible charge carriers tuning in Mg-doped Ga0.6Fe1.4O3 thin films

    Ga0.6Fe1.4O3 is predicted to be magnetoelectric with non zero magnetization at room temperature. However, in thin films, electric properties are overshadowed by strong leakage currents. In this Letter, we show that Mg doping in Ga0.6Fe1.4O3 thin films grown by pulsed laser deposition allows decreasing the leakage current density by four orders of magnitude and might simultaneously allow tuning the carriers' nature. These results suggest the possibility to develop a new class of material exhibiting room temperature magnetization, tunable transport properties, and magnetoelectric properties.     Daily allergic multimorbidity in rhinitis using mobile technology:a novel concept of the MASK study

    Background: Multimorbidity in allergic airway diseases is well known, but no data exist about the daily dynamics of symptoms and their impact on work. To better understand this, we aimed to assess the presence and control of daily allergic multimorbidity (asthma, conjunctivitis, rhinitis) and its impact on work productivity using a mobile technology, the Allergy Diary. Methods: We undertook a 1-year prospective observational study in which 4 210 users and 32 585 days were monitored in 19 countries. Five visual analogue scales (VAS) assessed the daily burden of the disease (i.e., global evaluation, nose, eyes, asthma and work). Visual analogue scale levels <20/100 were categorized as "Low" burden and VAS levels ≄50/100 as "High" burden. Results: Visual analogue scales global measured levels assessing the global control of the allergic disease were significantly associated with allergic multimorbidity. Eight hypothesis-driven patterns were defined based on "Low" and "High" VAS levels. There were <0.2% days of Rhinitis Low and Asthma High or Conjunctivitis High patterns. There were 5.9% days with a Rhinitis High-Asthma Low pattern. There were 1.7% days with a Rhinitis High-Asthma High-Conjunctivitis Low pattern. A novel Rhinitis High-Asthma High-Conjunctivitis High pattern was identified in 2.9% days and had the greatest impact on uncontrolled VAS global measured and impaired work productivity. Work productivity was significantly correlated with VAS global measured levels. Conclusions: In a novel approach examining daily symptoms with mobile technology, we found considerable intra-individual variability of allergic multimorbidity including a previously unrecognized extreme pattern of uncontrolled multimorbidity

    MASK-airÂź, a validated mHealth app (Medical Device regulation Class IIa) has enabled large observational implementation studies in over 58,000 people with allergic rhinitis and/or asthma. It can help to address unmet patient needs in rhinitis and asthma care. MASK-airÂź is a Good Practice of DG Santé on digitally-enabled, patient-centred care. It is also a candidate Good Practice of OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development). MASK-airÂź data has enabled novel phenotype discovery and characterisation, as well as novel insights into the management of allergic rhinitis. MASK-airÂź data show that most rhinitis patients (i) are not adherent and do not follow guidelines, (ii) use as-needed treatment, (iii) do not take medication when they are well, (iv) increase their treatment based on symptoms and (v) do not use the recommended treatment. The data also show that control (symptoms, work productivity, educational performance) is not always improved by medications. A combined symptom-medication score (ARIA-EAACI-CSMS) has been validated for clinical practice and trials. The implications of the novel MASK-airÂź results should lead to change management in rhinitis and asthma

    Geolocation with respect to persona privacy for the Allergy Diary app - a MASK study

    Background: Collecting data on the localization of users is a key issue for the MASK (Mobile Airways Sentinel network: the Allergy Diary) App. Data anonymization is a method of sanitization for privacy. The European Commission's Article 29 Working Party stated that geolocation information is personal data. To assess geolocation using the MASK method and to compare two anonymization methods in the MASK database to find an optimal privacy method. Methods: Geolocation was studied for all people who used the Allergy Diary App from December 2015 to November 2017 and who reported medical outcomes. Two different anonymization methods have been evaluated: Noise addition (randomization) and k-anonymity (generalization). Results: Ninety-three thousand one hundred and sixteen days of VAS were collected from 8535 users and 54,500 (58. 5%) were geolocalized, corresponding to 5428 users. Noise addition was found to be less accurate than k-anonymity using MASK data to protect the users' life privacy. Discussion: k-anonymity is an acceptable method for the anonymization of MASK data and results can be used for other databases.Peer reviewe
