    Construcción y propiedades psicométricas de la Escala de Ansiedad de Lima de 20 ítems (EAL-20).

    Objetivo: Seleccionar los ítems más representativos de una escala de ansiedad de 130 ítems (Escala de Ansiedad de Lima, EAL-130) para hacer posible la construcción de una versión breve de 20 ítems (EAL-20). Métodos: A partir de los datos del estudio previo de validación de la EAL-130 en 254 pacientes, se utilizó el método de análisis de regresión múltiple para identificar los ítems que mejor predecían los puntajes totales de cada una de 5 subescalas correspondientes a 5 síndromes incluidos en la escala original (ansiedad psíquica, síntomas físicos, pánico, agorafobia y fobia social). Se condujo un análisis factorial de matriz policórica de la nueva escala así generada (EAL-20). Resultados: La EAL-20 tuvo un alfa de Cronbach de 0,8885 y sus 20 ítems cubrieron el 90,38% de la varianza del puntaje total de la EAL-130. En la EAL-20 se identificaron 4 factores correspondientes a ansiedad física, fobia social, ansiedad psíquica y agorafobia. Con un punto de corte de ≥ 10 se obtuvo un equilibrio entre sensibilidad y especificidad para la identificación de un CGI-S≥ 4. Conclusiones: Los 20 ítems seleccionados para la EAL-20 permiten evaluar 4 dimensiones de ansiedad, con una mínima pérdida de información respecto a la EAL-130; se sugiere usar un punto de corte ≥ 10 como indicador de ansiedad moderada o de severidad mayor

    PopStar Evolutionary Synthesis Models II: Optical emission-line spectra from Giant H{\sc ii} regions

    This is the second paper of a series reporting the results from the PopStar evolutionary synthesis models. Here we present synthetic emission line spectra of H{\sc ii} regions photoionized by young star clusters, for seven values of cluster masses and for ages between 0.1 and 5.2 Myr. The ionizing Spectral Energy Distributions (SEDs) are those obtained by the PopStar code \citep*{mgb09} for six different metallicities, with a very low metallicity set, Z=0.0001, not included in previous similar works. We assume that the radius of the H{\sc ii} region is the distance at which the ionized gas is deposited by the action of the mechanical energy of the winds and supernovae from the central ionizing young cluster. In this way the ionization parameter is eliminated as free argument, since now its value is obtained from the cluster physical properties (mass, age and metallicity) and from the gaseous medium characteristics (density and abundances). We discuss our results and compare them with those from previous models and also with a large and data set of giant H{\sc ii} regions for which abundances have been derived in a homogeneous manner. The values of the [OIII] lines (at λλ\lambda\lambda 4363, 4959, 5007\AA) in the lowest metallicity nebulae are found to be very weak and similar to those coming from very high metallicity regions (solar or over-solar). Thus, the sole use of the oxygen lines is not enough to distinguish between very low and very high metallicity regions. In these cases we emphasize the need of the additional support of alternative metallicity tracers, like the [SIII] lines in the near-\textit{IR}.Comment: 20 pages, 26 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS Main Journa

    Laminosioptes cysticola and Gallibacterium anatis infections in a lymphoma diseased chicken hen with a cystic right oviduct

    A domestic hen showing infraorbital swelling was presented for a routine classroom demonstration of avian diagnostics. At necropsy, tiny whitish caseo-calcareous nodules were found in the subcutaneous tissues of the carcass, produced by the subcutaneous fowl mite, Laminosioptes cysticola. Gallibacterium anatis biovar haemolytica was isolated from the infraorbital sinus, it containing a caseous exudate. During necropsy, a conspicuous cyst was found in the abdominal cavity. Microscopic examination of the internal lining of the cyst revealed a single cuboidal to columnar, ciliated epithelium, leading to a diagnosis of oviductal cyst. Also, the microscopic examination of the heart, lung, liver and kidney reveal a multifocal infiltration of lymphoma cells. It appears the first case of simultaneous presentation of these conditions from a single chicken

    Mesosphere and Lower Thermosphere Changes Associated With the 2 July 2019 Total Eclipse in South America Over the Andes Lidar Observatory, Cerro Pachon, Chile

    This article presents the results of a week of observations around the 2 July 2019, total Chilean eclipse. The eclipse occurred between 19:22 and 21:46 UTC, with complete sun disc obscuration at 20:38–20:40 UTC (16:38–16:40 LT) over the Andes Lidar Observatory (ALO) at (30.3°S, 70.7°W). Observations were carried out using ALO instrumentation with the goal to observe possible eclipse-induced effects on the mesosphere and lower thermosphere region (MLT; 75–105 km altitude). To complement our data set, we have also utilized TIMED/SABER temperatures and ionosonde electron density measurements taken at the University of La Serena\u27s Juan Soldado Observatory. Observed events include an unusual fast, bow-shaped gravity wave structure in airglow images, mesosphere temperature mapper brightness as well as in lidar temperature with 150 km horizontal wavelength 24 min observed period, and vertical wavelength of 25 km. Also, a strong zonal wind shear above 100 km in meteor radar scans as well as the occurrence of a sporadic E layer around 100 km from ionosonde measurements. Finally, variations in temperature and density and the presence of a descending sporadic sodium layer near 98 km were seen in lidar data. We discuss the effects of the eclipse in the MLT, which can shed light on a sparse set of measurements during this type of event. Our results point out several effects of eclipse-associated changes in the atmosphere below and above but not directly within the MLT

    Using Evidence in a Highly Fragmented Legislature: The Case of Colombia's Health System Reform

    This chapter examines how evidence is used in major policy health policy initiatives in a highly contested political context. Through a case study of legislation proposed in the context of Colombia’s ongoing health systems reformed process, it explores how such use is affected by the specific role played by the legislature within a highly fragmented polity. It draws on an analysis of evidence cited in the drafting of relevant laws in the process of health systems reform. Reflecting the role of the legislature in Colombia’s contested political system, evidence cited in legislative debates was unable to forge consensus amongst relevant policy actors over health system reforms. While scientific research was available and at the disposal of legislators, it was unable to provide the common ground on which to overcome embedded policy positions and form the basis of compromise over the direction of health systems reforms

    PopStar I: Evolutionary synthesis models description

    We present new evolutionary synthesis models for Simple Stellar Populations for a wide range of ages and metallicities. The models are based on the Padova isochrones. The core of the spectral library is provided by the medium resolution Lejeune et al. atmosphere models. These spectra are complemented by NLTE atmosphere models for hot stars that have an important impact in the stellar cluster's ionizing spectra: O, B and WR stellar spectra at the early ages, and spectra of post-AGB stars and planetary nebulae, at intermediate and old ages. At young ages, our models compare well with other existing models but we find that, the inclusion of the nebular continuum, not considered in several other models, reddens significantly the integrated colours of very young stellar populations. This is consistent with the results of spectral synthesis codes particularly devised for the study of starburst galaxies. At intermediate and old ages, the agreement with literature model is good and, in particular, we reproduce well the observed colours of star clusters in LMC. Given the ability to produce good integrated spectra from the far-UV to the infrared at any age, we consider that our models are particularly suited for the study of high redshift galaxies.     The CaT strength in Seyfert nuclei revisited: analyzing young stars and non-stellar light contributions to the spectra

    In a former paper (Garcia-Rissmann et al. 2005; hereafter Paper I), we have presented spectra of 64 active, 9 normal and 5 Starburst galaxies in the region around the near-IR Calcium triplet absorption lines and the [SIII]9069 line. In the present paper we analyze the CaT strength (WCaT), and kinematical products derived in that study, namely stellar and ionized gas velocity dispersions. Our main results may be summarized as follows: (1) Seyfert 2s show no sign of dilution in WCaT with respect to the values spanned by normal galaxies, even when optical absorption lines such as the CaII K band at 3933 A are much weaker than in old, bulge-like stellar populations. (2) The location of Seyfert 2s in the WCaT-WCaK plane is consistent with evolutionary synthesis models. The implication is that the source responsible for the dilution of optical lines in these AGN is a young stellar population, rather than an AGN featureless continuum, confirming the conclusion of the pioneer study of Terlevich, Diaz & Terlevich. (3) In Seyfert 1s, both W[SIII] and WCaT tend to be diluted due to the presence of a non-stellar component, in agreement with the unification paradigm. (4) A comparison of stellar and gas velocity dispersions confirms the existence of a correlation between the typical velocities of stars and clouds of the Narrow Line Region. The strength and scatter around this correlation are similar to those previously obtained from the [OIII]5007 line width.Comment: 14 pages, 15 figures. Paper accepted for publication in MNRA

    Biological Activity and Implications of the Metalloproteinases in Diabetic Foot Ulcers

    Inadequate metabolic control predisposes diabetic patient to a series of complications on account of diabetes mellitus (DM). Among the most common complications of DM is neuropathy, which causes microvascular damage by hyperglycemia in the lower extremities which arrives characterized by a delayed closing. The global prevalence of diabetic neuropathy (DN) was 66% of people with diabetes in 2015, representing the principal cause of total or partial lower extremities amputation, with 22.6% of the patients with DN. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are involved in healing. The function that these mainly play is the degradation during inflammation that has as consequence the elimination of the extracellular matrix (ECM), the disintegration of the capillary membrane to give way to angiogenesis and cellular migration for the remodeling of damaged tissue. The imbalance in MMPs may increase the chronicity of a wound, what leads to chronic foot ulcers and amputation. This chapter focuses on the role of MMPs in diabetic wound healing

    Probing the near infrared stellar population of Seyfert galaxies

    We employ IRTF SpeX NIR (0.8-2.4 microns) spectra to investigate the stellar population (SP), active galactic nuclei (AGN) featureless continuum (FC) and hot dust properties in 9 Sy 1 and 15 Sy 2 galaxies. Both the starlight code and the hot dust as an additional base element were used for the first time in this spectral range. We found evidence of correlation among the equivalent widths (W) Si I 1.59 microns x Mg I 1.58 microns, equally for both kinds of activity. Part of the W{Na I 2.21 microns} and W {CO 2.3 microns} strengths may be related to galaxy inclination. Our synthesis shows significant differences between Sy 1 and Sy 2 galaxies: the hot dust component is required to fit the K-band spectra of ~90% of the Sy 1 galaxies, and only of ~25% of the Sy 2; about 50 % of the Sy 2 galaxies require a FCFC component contribution >20%, while this fraction increases to 60% in the Sy 1; also, in about 50 % of the Sy2, the combined FC and young components contribute with more than 20%, while this occurs in 90% of the Sy1, suggesting recent star formation in the central region. The central few hundred parsecs of our galaxy sample contain a substantial fraction of intermediate-age SPs with a mean metallicity near solar. Our SP synthesis confirms that the 1.1 micron CN band can be used as a tracer of intermediate-age SPs. The simultaneous fitting of SP, FC and hot dust components increased in ~150% the number of AGNs with hot dust detected and the mass estimated. The NIR emerges as an excellent window to study the stellar population of Sy 1 galaxies, as opposed to the usually heavily attenuated optical range. Our approach opens a new way to investigate and quantify the individual contribution of the three most important NIR continuum components observed in AGNs.Comment: The paper contains 14 figures and 5 tables.
