CHEMICAL IDENTIFICATION OF CHLOROPHENYLPIPERAZINE IN SEIZED TABLETS. Designer drug is a term used to describe psychoactive drugs of abuse which are usually synthesized by modifying the molecular structures of existing drugs of abuse. The term gained widespread popularity when MDMA (ecstasy) experienced a popularity boom in the mid 1980's. In Brazil. designer drugs seizures have increased in the last few years, and actually tablets with unknown psychoactive compounds began to be forwarded to the Forensic Laboratories. This work describes the analytical assays that were performed to identify the chlorophenylpiperazine, a psychoactive substance first time identified in seized tablets in Sao Paulo state.33372572

Work memories in super 8: the dawn of paper recycling in Brescia

    Get PDF
This paper describes the digital acquisition and restoration of a documentary in Super 8 of the origins of citizen\u2019s awareness on paper recycling in Brescia, a city of Lombardy, northern Italy. This short movie has been shot in 1980 by ASM the public company which used to provide all the city supply (gas, water, electricity, district heating) and city transport. Now this film is part of the Fondazione ASM archive and its acquisition is part of a larger project of preservation of industrial memories in Italy. Here we describe the tools used for the acquisition and the technical choices done, together with the restoration test made. As well, we discuss the problems that one must face in trying to preserve a visual document of this kind from the unavoidable damage of time

Measurements of the reaction pˉpϕη\bar{p}p \to \phi \eta of antiproton annihilation at rest at three hydrogen target densities

The proton-antiproton annihilation at rest into the ϕη\phi\eta final state was measured for three different target densities: liquid hydrogen, gaseous hydrogen at NTP and at a low pressure of 5 mbar. The yield of this reaction in the liquid hydrogen target is smaller than in the low-pressure gas target. The branching ratios of the ϕη\phi\eta channel were calculated on the basis of simultaneous analysis of the three data samples. The branching ratio for annihilation into ϕη\phi\eta from the 3S1^3S_1 protonium state turns out to be about ten times smaller as compared to the one from the 1P1^1P_1 state.Comment: 10 pages, 3 Postscript figures. First πK\pi K atom lifetime and πK\pi K scattering length measurements

The results of a search for hydrogen-like atoms consisting of πK±\pi^{\mp}K^{\pm} mesons are presented. Evidence for πK\pi K atom production by 24 GeV/c protons from CERN PS interacting with a nickel target has been seen in terms of characteristic πK\pi K pairs from their breakup in the same target (178±49178 \pm 49) and from Coulomb final state interaction (653±42653 \pm 42). Using these results the analysis yields a first value for the πK\pi K atom lifetime of τ=(2.51.8+3.0)\tau=(2.5_{-1.8}^{+3.0}) fs and a first model-independent measurement of the S-wave isospin-odd πK\pi K scattering length a0=13a1/2a3/2=(0.110.04+0.09)Mπ1\left|a_0^-\right|=\frac{1}{3}\left|a_{1/2}-a_{3/2}\right|= \left(0.11_{-0.04}^{+0.09} \right)M_{\pi}^{-1} (aIa_I for isospin II).Comment: 14 pages, 8 figure

New data on OZI rule violation in bar{p}p annihilation at rest

The results of a measurement of the ratio R = Y(phi pi+ pi-) / Y(omega pi+ pi-) for antiproton annihilation at rest in a gaseous and in a liquid hydrogen target are presented. It was found that the value of this ratio increases with the decreasing of the dipion mass, which demonstrates the difference in the phi and omega production mechanisms. An indication on the momentum transfer dependence of the apparent OZI rule violation for phi production from the 3S1 initial state was found.Comment: 11 pages, 3 PostScript figures, submitted to Physics Letter

Determination of ππ\pi\pi scattering lengths from measurement of π+π\pi^+\pi^- atom lifetime

    Get PDF
The DIRAC experiment at CERN has achieved a sizeable production of π+π\pi^+\pi^- atoms and has significantly improved the precision on its lifetime determination. From a sample of 21227 atomic pairs, a 4% measurement of the S-wave ππ\pi\pi scattering length difference a0a2=(.0.25330.0078+0.0080stat.0.0073+0.0078syst)Mπ+1|a_0-a_2| = (.0.2533^{+0.0080}_{-0.0078}|_\mathrm{stat}.{}^{+0.0078}_{-0.0073}|_\mathrm{syst})M_{\pi^+}^{-1} has been attained, providing an important test of Chiral Perturbation Theory.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figure

    Measurements of branching fraction ratios and CP-asymmetries in suppressed B^- -> D(-> K^+ pi^-)K^- and B^- -> D(-> K^+ pi^-)pi^- decays

    Get PDF
We report the first reconstruction in hadron collisions of the suppressed decays B^- -> D(-> K^+ pi^-)K^- and B^- -> D(-> K^+ pi^-)pi^-, sensitive to the CKM phase gamma, using data from 7 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity collected by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron collider. We reconstruct a signal for the B^- -> D(-> K^+ pi^-)K^- suppressed mode with a significance of 3.2 standard deviations, and measure the ratios of the suppressed to favored branching fractions R(K) = [22.0 \pm 8.6(stat)\pm 2.6(syst)]\times 10^-3, R^+(K) = [42.6\pm 13.7(stat)\pm 2.8(syst)]\times 10^-3, R^-(K)= [3.8\pm 10.3(stat)\pm 2.7(syst]\times 10^-3, as well as the direct CP-violating asymmetry A(K) = -0.82\pm 0.44(stat)\pm 0.09(syst) of this mode. Corresponding quantities for B^- -> D(-> K^+ pi^-)pi^- decay are also reported.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure, accepted by Phys.Rev.D Rapid Communications for Publicatio

Search for the standard model Higgs boson in the H to ZZ to 2l 2nu channel in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV

    Get PDF
A search for the standard model Higgs boson in the H to ZZ to 2l 2nu decay channel, where l = e or mu, in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is presented. The data were collected at the LHC, with the CMS detector, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 inverse femtobarns. No significant excess is observed above the background expectation, and upper limits are set on the Higgs boson production cross section. The presence of the standard model Higgs boson with a mass in the 270-440 GeV range is excluded at 95% confidence level.Comment: Submitted to JHE

Measurement of the t t-bar production cross section in the dilepton channel in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV

    Get PDF
The t t-bar production cross section (sigma[t t-bar]) is measured in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV in data collected by the CMS experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 inverse femtobarns. The measurement is performed in events with two leptons (electrons or muons) in the final state, at least two jets identified as jets originating from b quarks, and the presence of an imbalance in transverse momentum. The measured value of sigma[t t-bar] for a top-quark mass of 172.5 GeV is 161.9 +/- 2.5 (stat.) +5.1/-5.0 (syst.) +/- 3.6(lumi.) pb, consistent with the prediction of the standard model.Comment: Replaced with published version.
