The biology and culture of tilapias
The 1980 international conference on the Biology and Culture of Tilapias held in Bellagio, Italy, was a unique gathering of biologists and culturists to review existing information on tilapias and to suggest profitable areas for future work.Tilapia culture, Fishery biology, Conferences Tilapia, Sarotherodon
General Static Solutions of 2-dimensional Einstein-Dilaton-Maxwell-Scalar Theories
General static solutions of effectively 2-dimensional
Einstein-Dilaton-Maxwell-Scalar theories are obtained. Our model action
includes a class of 2-d dilaton gravity theories coupled with a gauge
field and a massless scalar field. Therefore it also describes the spherically
symmetric reduction of -dimensional Einstein-Scalar-Maxwell theories. The
properties of the analytic solutions are briefly discussed.Comment: 16 pages, Latex fil
Initial State Interactions for -Proton Radiative Capture
The effects of the initial state interactions on the radiative
capture branching ratios are examined and found to be quite sizable. A general
coupled-channel formalism for both strong and electromagnetic channels using a
particle basis is presented, and applied to all the low energy data
with the exception of the {\it 1s} atomic level shift. Satisfactory fits are
obtained using vertex coupling constants for the electromagnetic channels that
are close to their expected SU(3) values.Comment: 16 pages, uses revte

Feature hierarchies are essential to many visual object recognition systems and are well motivated by observations in biological systems. The present paper proposes an algorithm to incrementally compute feature hierarchies. The features are represented as estimated densities, using a variant of local soft histograms. The kernel functions used for this estimation in conjunction with their unitary extension establish a tight frame and results from framelet theory apply. Traversing the feature hierarchy requires resampling of the spatial and the feature bins. For the resampling, we derive a multi-resolution scheme for quadratic spline kernels and we derive an optimization algorithm for the upsampling. We complement the theoretic results by some illustrative experiments, consideration of convergence rate and computational efficiency.DIPLECSGARNICSELLII
Proposed changes in the classification of Histosols, Alfisols, Andisols, Aridisols, Inceptisols, Mollisols, Entisols, and Spodosols in South Australia
As a result of intensive field and laboratory work being conducted in specific key areas in South Australia need for improvements and modifications to Soil Taxonomy have become obvious to several soil scientists. This report proposes some changes to the 1990 Keys to Soil Taxonomy (Soil Survey Staff, 1990) in order to provide more suitable categories for some soils in South Australia. These improvements were also identified and improved upon by several workers during a series of three Soil Taxonomy workshops held in South Australia during September and October, 1991
3-D Perturbations in Conformal Turbulence
The effects of three-dimensional perturbations in two-dimensional turbulence
are investigated, through a conformal field theory approach. We compute scaling
exponents for the energy spectra of enstrophy and energy cascades, in a strong
coupling limit, and compare them to the values found in recent experiments. The
extension of unperturbed conformal turbulence to the present situation is
performed by means of a simple physical picture in which the existence of small
scale random forces is closely related to deviations of the exact
two-dimensional fluid motion.Comment: Discussion of intermittency improved. Figure include

Report on Toyota/Prius Motor Torque Capability, Torque Property, No-Load Back EMF, and Mechanical Losses, Revised May 2007
In today's hybrid vehicle market, the Toyota/Prius drive system is currently considered the leader in electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing innovations. It is significant that in today's marketplace, Toyota is able to manufacture and sell the vehicle for a profit. This project's objective is to test the torque capability of the 2004 Prius motor and to analyze the torque properties relating to the rotor structure. The tested values of no-load back electromotive force (emf) and mechanical losses are also presented
Ten Proofs of the Generalized Second Law
Ten attempts to prove the Generalized Second Law of Thermodyanmics (GSL) are
described and critiqued. Each proof provides valuable insights which should be
useful for constructing future, more complete proofs. Rather than merely
summarizing previous research, this review offers new perspectives, and
strategies for overcoming limitations of the existing proofs. A long
introductory section addresses some choices that must be made in any
formulation the GSL: Should one use the Gibbs or the Boltzmann entropy? Should
one use the global or the apparent horizon? Is it necessary to assume any
entropy bounds? If the area has quantum fluctuations, should the GSL apply to
the average area? The definition and implications of the classical,
hydrodynamic, semiclassical and full quantum gravity regimes are also
discussed. A lack of agreement regarding how to define the "quasi-stationary"
regime is addressed by distinguishing it from the "quasi-steady" regime.Comment: 60 pages, 2 figures, 1 table. v2: corrected typos and added a

Observation of a new chi_b state in radiative transitions to Upsilon(1S) and Upsilon(2S) at ATLAS
The chi_b(nP) quarkonium states are produced in proton-proton collisions at
the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS
detector. Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.4
fb^-1, these states are reconstructed through their radiative decays to
Upsilon(1S,2S) with Upsilon->mu+mu-. In addition to the mass peaks
corresponding to the decay modes chi_b(1P,2P)->Upsilon(1S)gamma, a new
structure centered at a mass of 10.530+/-0.005 (stat.)+/-0.009 (syst.) GeV is
also observed, in both the Upsilon(1S)gamma and Upsilon(2S)gamma decay modes.
This is interpreted as the chi_b(3P) system.Comment: 5 pages plus author list (18 pages total), 2 figures, 1 table,
