Reconhecimento dos Conhecimentos Tradicionais em Saúde. Andes, Antioquia 2019: Abordagem qualitativa
Introduction: revaluing and re-signifying the identity of traditional health knowledge is challenging in a culture mediated by industrialization, surviving with a historical past, cultural and symbolic heritage, from a mixed identity that is conjugated in a territorial syncretism, which persists through physical and cultural traces of magical-religious traditions. Objective: to recognize the ethnographic particularities of the agents who carry popular knowledge in health that allows them to strengthen their practices in the Andes-Antioquia municipality. To re-signify these practices to recover their identity and symbolic ritual environments, in the configuration of their identity as an organic body in social spaces. Methodology: qualitative, descriptive type research, with ethnographic perspective (micro-ethnographic), systematized through in-depth interviews, accompanied by photographic records and participant observations. Results: 48 social agents between 30 and 70 years old, most of them settled in rural areas, were identified. Among them: sobanderos with secret, sobanderos with pain or componedores, hierbateros and rezanderos. Their diverse identity is recognized from a magical religious emergence and the characteristics of their inherited knowledge are exposed, in an enveloping rituality that recreates and vitalizes them in social spaces. Discussion: the results are analyzed within the framework of social, multidimensional and complex spaces, through its three elements: social structures, social relations and spatial forms. Conclusions: spatial forms transfer symbolism to the physical social space with characteristics that strengthen the exercise of their knowledge and identity. The gap between western knowledge and traditional knowledge is closing more and more due to the strength of its realities in the daily life of a globalized society.

Tratamiento normativo al status de beligerancia y terrorismo dentro del conflicto armado en Colombia
For about 50 years there has been an armed conflict in Colombia, but recently acknowledged by the government, leaving as a result huge social gaps, economic and devastating consequences and noticeable cultural changes in the national imaginaries of life and development. Terms as belligerency, terrorism, and armed conflict are now part of our lexicon. The pretension for this research is to address the issue of the regulatory treatment given by Colombian legislation to the status of belligerence, terrorism and armed conflict without neglecting of course that in this regard, our regulations have adopted those from the International Law through the Constitutionality cluster.

Taking the pulse of Earth's tropical forests using networks of highly distributed plots
Tropical forests are the most diverse and productive ecosystems on Earth. While better understanding of these forests is critical for our collective future, until quite recently efforts to measure and monitor them have been largely disconnected. Networking is essential to discover the answers to questions that transcend borders and the horizons of funding agencies. Here we show how a global community is responding to the challenges of tropical ecosystem research with diverse teams measuring forests tree-by-tree in thousands of long-term plots. We review the major scientific discoveries of this work and show how this process is changing tropical forest science. Our core approach involves linking long-term grassroots initiatives with standardized protocols and data management to generate robust scaled-up results. By connecting tropical researchers and elevating their status, our Social Research Network model recognises the key role of the data originator in scientific discovery. Conceived in 1999 with RAINFOR (South America), our permanent plot networks have been adapted to Africa (AfriTRON) and Southeast Asia (T-FORCES) and widely emulated worldwide. Now these multiple initiatives are integrated via ForestPlots.net cyber-infrastructure, linking colleagues from 54 countries across 24 plot networks. Collectively these are transforming understanding of tropical forests and their biospheric role. Together we have discovered how, where and why forest carbon and biodiversity are responding to climate change, and how they feedback on it. This long-term pan-tropical collaboration has revealed a large long-term carbon sink and its trends, as well as making clear which drivers are most important, which forest processes are affected, where they are changing, what the lags are, and the likely future responses of tropical forests as the climate continues to change. By leveraging a remarkably old technology, plot networks are sparking a very modern revolution in tropical forest science. In the future, humanity can benefit greatly by nurturing the grassroots communities now collectively capable of generating unique, long-term understanding of Earth's most precious forests.Additional co-authors: Susan Laurance, William Laurance, Francoise Yoko Ishida, Andrew Marshall, Catherine Waite, Hannsjoerg Woell, Jean-Francois Bastin, Marijn Bauters, Hans Beeckman, Pfascal Boeckx, Jan Bogaert, Charles De Canniere, Thales de Haulleville, Jean-Louis Doucet, Olivier Hardy, Wannes Hubau, Elizabeth Kearsley, Hans Verbeeck, Jason Vleminckx, Steven W. Mortality from gastrointestinal congenital anomalies at 264 hospitals in 74 low-income, middle-income, and high-income countries: a multicentre, international, prospective cohort study
Summary
Background Congenital anomalies are the fifth leading cause of mortality in children younger than 5 years globally.
Many gastrointestinal congenital anomalies are fatal without timely access to neonatal surgical care, but few studies
have been done on these conditions in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs). We compared outcomes of
the seven most common gastrointestinal congenital anomalies in low-income, middle-income, and high-income
countries globally, and identified factors associated with mortality.
Methods We did a multicentre, international prospective cohort study of patients younger than 16 years, presenting to
hospital for the first time with oesophageal atresia, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, intestinal atresia, gastroschisis,
exomphalos, anorectal malformation, and Hirschsprung’s disease. Recruitment was of consecutive patients for a
minimum of 1 month between October, 2018, and April, 2019. We collected data on patient demographics, clinical
status, interventions, and outcomes using the REDCap platform. Patients were followed up for 30 days after primary
intervention, or 30 days after admission if they did not receive an intervention. The primary outcome was all-cause,
in-hospital mortality for all conditions combined and each condition individually, stratified by country income status.
We did a complete case analysis.
Findings We included 3849 patients with 3975 study conditions (560 with oesophageal atresia, 448 with congenital
diaphragmatic hernia, 681 with intestinal atresia, 453 with gastroschisis, 325 with exomphalos, 991 with anorectal
malformation, and 517 with Hirschsprung’s disease) from 264 hospitals (89 in high-income countries, 166 in middleincome
countries, and nine in low-income countries) in 74 countries. Of the 3849 patients, 2231 (58·0%) were male.
Median gestational age at birth was 38 weeks (IQR 36–39) and median bodyweight at presentation was 2·8 kg (2·3–3·3).
Mortality among all patients was 37 (39·8%) of 93 in low-income countries, 583 (20·4%) of 2860 in middle-income
countries, and 50 (5·6%) of 896 in high-income countries (p<0·0001 between all country income groups).
Gastroschisis had the greatest difference in mortality between country income strata (nine [90·0%] of ten in lowincome
countries, 97 [31·9%] of 304 in middle-income countries, and two [1·4%] of 139 in high-income countries;
p≤0·0001 between all country income groups). Factors significantly associated with higher mortality for all patients
combined included country income status (low-income vs high-income countries, risk ratio 2·78 [95% CI 1·88–4·11],
p<0·0001; middle-income vs high-income countries, 2·11 [1·59–2·79], p<0·0001), sepsis at presentation (1·20
[1·04–1·40], p=0·016), higher American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) score at primary intervention
(ASA 4–5 vs ASA 1–2, 1·82 [1·40–2·35], p<0·0001; ASA 3 vs ASA 1–2, 1·58, [1·30–1·92], p<0·0001]), surgical safety
checklist not used (1·39 [1·02–1·90], p=0·035), and ventilation or parenteral nutrition unavailable when needed
(ventilation 1·96, [1·41–2·71], p=0·0001; parenteral nutrition 1·35, [1·05–1·74], p=0·018). Administration of
parenteral nutrition (0·61, [0·47–0·79], p=0·0002) and use of a peripherally inserted central catheter (0·65
[0·50–0·86], p=0·0024) or percutaneous central line (0·69 [0·48–1·00], p=0·049) were associated with lower mortality.
Interpretation Unacceptable differences in mortality exist for gastrointestinal congenital anomalies between lowincome,
middle-income, and high-income countries. Improving access to quality neonatal surgical care in LMICs will
be vital to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 3.2 of ending preventable deaths in neonates and children younger
than 5 years by 2030
Tratamiento normativo al status de beligerancia y terrorismo dentro del conflicto armado en Colombia

El aprendizaje de los estudiantes de enfermería en la interacción con el docente experto
Objective: To describe the learning process of nursing students in the interaction with the expert teacher. Methodology: Qualitative investigation, using ethnographic tools. One teacher was identified as an expert teacher. The field work was done in two phases. In the first, two observations were made during the classes; and 23 think aloud interviews were conducted with six students. In the second phase, eight in-depth interviews were conducted with six students. Descriptive analysis and categorization was carried out using the Atlas Ti computer program. Results: From the student-teacher interaction emerged two categories describing the learning process. The first is “the interaction between students and the expert teacher: a process of dos”, which is developed through explanation, spontaneous interventions by students and recapitulation exercises. The second one is about “apprenticeships: for life”, which are shown through the identification of different ways of learning, apprenticeships to learn and tacit apprenticeships. Conclusions: The learning process in the interaction between the expert teacher and the students is dynamic, flexible and open. It is a space where the students and the teacher build an active, flexible and bidirectional relationship that helps the professional training processes in Nursing, making it possible for the students to obtain significant learnings.
