    Superconductivity in a two dimensional extended Hubbard model

    The Roth's two-pole approximation has been used by the present authors to investigate the role of dpd-p hybridization in the superconducting properties of an extended dpd-p Hubbard model. Superconductivity with singlet dx2y2d_{x^2-y^2}-wave pairing is treated by following Beenen and Edwards formalism. In this work, the Coulomb interaction, the temperature and the superconductivity have been considered in the calculation of some relevant correlation functions present in the Roth's band shift. The behavior of the order parameter associated with temperature, hybridization, Coulomb interaction and the Roth's band shift effects on superconductivity are studied.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in European Physical Journal

    Nuclear Effects in Deep Inelastic Scattering of Charged-Current Neutrino off Nuclear

    Nuclear effect in the neutrino-nucleus charged-Current inelastic scattering process is studied by analyzing the CCFR and NuTeV data. Structure functions F2(x,Q2)F_2(x,Q^2) and xF3(x,Q2)xF_3(x,Q^2) as well as differential cross sections are calculated by using CTEQ parton distribution functions and EKRS and HKN nuclear parton distribution functions, and compared with the CCFR and NuTeV data. It is found that the corrections of nuclear effect to the differential cross section for the charged-current anti-neutrino scattering on nucleus are negligible, the EMC effect exists in the neutrino structure function F2(x,Q2)F_2(x,Q^2) in the large xx region, the shadowing and anti-shadowing effect occurs in the distribution functions of valence quarks in the small and medium xx region,respectively. It is also found that shadowing effects on F2(x,Q2)F_2(x,Q^2) in the small xx region in the neutrino-nucleus and the charged-lepton-nucleus deep inelastic scattering processes are different. It is clear that the neutrino-nucleus deep inelastic scattering data should further be employed in restricting nuclear parton distributions.Comment: 24 pages, 5 figure

    Infinite-dimensional pp-adic groups, semigroups of double cosets, and inner functions on Bruhat--Tits builldings

    We construct pp-adic analogs of operator colligations and their characteristic functions. Consider a pp-adic group G=GL(α+k,Qp)G=GL(\alpha+k\infty, Q_p), its subgroup L=O(k,Zp)L=O(k\infty,Z_p), and the subgroup K=O(,Zp)K=O(\infty,Z_p) embedded to LL diagonally. We show that double cosets Γ=KG/K\Gamma= K\setminus G/K admit a structure of a semigroup, Γ\Gamma acts naturally in KK-fixed vectors of unitary representations of GG. For each double coset we assign a 'characteristic function', which sends a certain Bruhat--Tits building to another building (buildings are finite-dimensional); image of the distinguished boundary is contained in the distinguished boundary. The latter building admits a structure of (Nazarov) semigroup, the product in Γ\Gamma corresponds to a point-wise product of characteristic functions.Comment: new version of the paper, 47pp, 3 figure

    Our study aimed to identify the broad effects of native fossorial species on leaf litter, and make inferences about their mechanistic influence on fire behavior using simulation models (Hayward et al., 2016). This conceptual link has long been hypothesized, but here we present empirical evidence to support it; our results suggest that native fossorial mammals have fire-suppressive effects because their activity results in higher levels of litter decomposition, and a reduced fuel load across the landscape.     Exclusive photoproduction of pi degrees up to large values of Mandelstam variables s, t, and u with CLAS

    Exclusive photoproduction cross sections have been measured for the process γppπ0(e+e(γ))\gamma p \rightarrow p\pi^0(e^+e^-(\gamma)) with the Dalitz decay final state using tagged photon energies in the range of Eγ=1.2755.425E_{\gamma} = 1.275-5.425 GeV. The complete angular distribution of the final state π0\pi^0, for the entire photon energy range up to large values of tt and uu, has been measured for the first time. The data obtained show that the cross section dσ/dtd\sigma/dt, at mid to large angles, decreases with energy as s6.89±0.26s^{-6.89\pm 0.26} . This is in agreement with the perturbative QCD quark counting rule prediction of s7s^{-7} . Paradoxically, the size of angular distribution of measured cross sections is greatly underestimated by the QCD based Generalized Parton Distribution mechanism at highest available invariant energy s=11s=11 GeV2^2. At the same time, the Regge exchange based models for π0\pi^0 photoproduction are more consistent with experimental data.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure

    Challenges of beta-deformation

    A brief review of problems, arising in the study of the beta-deformation, also known as "refinement", which appears as a central difficult element in a number of related modern subjects: beta \neq 1 is responsible for deviation from free fermions in 2d conformal theories, from symmetric omega-backgrounds with epsilon_2 = - epsilon_1 in instanton sums in 4d SYM theories, from eigenvalue matrix models to beta-ensembles, from HOMFLY to super-polynomials in Chern-Simons theory, from quantum groups to elliptic and hyperbolic algebras etc. The main attention is paid to the context of AGT relation and its possible generalizations.Comment: 20 page

    Underperformance of African protected area networks and the case for new conservation models : insights from Zambia

    Many African protected areas (PAs) are not functioning effectively. We reviewed the performance of Zambia’s PA network and provide insights into how their effectiveness might be improved. Zambia’s PAs are under-performing in ecological, economic and social terms. Reasons include: a) rapidly expanding human populations, poverty and open-access systems in Game Management Areas (GMAs) resulting in widespread bushmeat poaching and habitat encroachment; b) underfunding of the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) resulting in inadequate law enforcement; c) reliance of ZAWA on extracting revenues from GMAs to cover operational costs which has prevented proper devolution of user-rights over wildlife to communities; d) on-going marginalization of communities from legal benefits from wildlife; e) under-development of the photo-tourism industry with the effect that earnings are limited to a fraction of the PA network; f) unfavourable terms and corruption which discourage good practice and adequate investment by hunting operators in GMAs; g) blurred responsibilities regarding anti-poaching in GMAs resulting in under-investment by all stakeholders. The combined effect of these challenges has been a major reduction in wildlife densities in most PAs and the loss of habitat in GMAs. Wildlife fares better in areas with investment from the private and/or NGO sector and where human settlement is absent. There is a need for: elevated government funding for ZAWA; greater international donor investment in protected area management; a shift in the role of ZAWA such that they focus primarily on national parks while facilitating the development of wildlife-based land uses by other stakeholders elsewhere; and new models for the functioning of GMAs based on joint-ventures between communities and the private and/or NGO sector. Such joint-ventures should provide defined communities with ownership of land, user-rights over wildlife and aim to attract long-term private/donor investment.     Experimental and numerical analysis of short sisal fiber-cement composites produced with recycled matrix

    "Published online: 02 Jan 2017"The proper use of renewable or recycled source materials can contribute significantly to reducing the environmental impact of construction industry. In this work, cement based composites reinforced with natural fibers were developed and their mechanical behavior was characterized. To ensure the composite sustainability and durability, the ordinary Portland cement matrix was modified by adding metakaolin and the natural aggregate was substituted by 10% and 20% of recycled concrete aggregate. Compression and splitting tensile tests indicated that mechanical strength did not seem to be affected by recycled content. Flat sheets were cast in a self-compacted cement matrix and bending tests were performed to determine the first crack, postpeak strength and cracking behavior of the composites. The use of short sisal fiber as reinforcement of recycled cement matrices results in a composite with multiple cracking and increment of strength after first crack.     Two-pion Bose-Einstein correlations in central Pb-Pb collisions at sNN\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 2.76 TeV

    The first measurement of two-pion Bose-Einstein correlations in central Pb-Pb collisions at sNN=2.76\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 2.76 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider is presented. We observe a growing trend with energy now not only for the longitudinal and the outward but also for the sideward pion source radius.
