    Evidências de validade da versão brasileira do questionário das cinco facetas de mindfulness (FFMQ-BR)

    In order to assess the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the FFMQ, 395 participants divided into smokers, people from the general population, college students, and meditators answered the FFMQ and the Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS). An Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was conducted and the reliability was assessed. The FFMQ-BR consists of seven factors and all of them showed good internal consistency. Evidence of the construct and criterion validity was obtained by a significant correlation between the FFMQ-BR scores and well-being and by a significant difference between the scores of the meditators and the other participants on the FFMQ-BR. This study may help in providing subsidies to the progress of research in the topic by examining the empirical relationships between Mindfulness and mental health.Com o objetivo de avaliar as propriedades psicométricas da versão brasileira do FFMQ, 395 participantes divididos entre tabagistas, comunidade geral, universitários e meditadores responderam ao FFMQ e à Escala de Bem-Estar Subjetivo (EBES). Foi realizada uma Análise Fatorial Exploratória (AFE) e a avaliação da fidedignidade. O FFMQ-BR foi composto por sete facetas e todas obtiveram valores adequados de consistência interna. Comprovou-se a validade de construto e de critério através da correlação entre os escores do FFMQ-BR e a EBES e da diferença entre os escores dos meditadores e dos demais participantes no FFMQ-BR, respectivamente.     Queens Library HealthLink: Fighting Health Disparities through Community Engagement

    Queens, New York is a diverse urban environment and home to many recent immigrants and low-income populations, which are known to have lower access to healthcare and are thus at higher risk for a wide range of negative health outcomes. Queens residents face serious cancer disparities, with late-stage cancer detection rates for breast, colorectal and prostate cancers far surpassing national averages. Developed to address such disparities, Queens Library HealthLink (HealthLink) is a four-way partnership that seeks to increase access to cancer screening, care and education in medically underserved neighborhoods in Queens. Through 20 of the 62 Queens Public Libraries, HealthLink organizes community members into Cancer Action Councils that develop and tailor interventions suited to community needs, assets and priorities, as well as perform evaluation of their work. This article describes the partnership, its program outcomes and case examples of successful initiatives in order to present HealthLink’s relevance to other urban public libraries as a model for reaching broad, underserved audiences with health information and services

    Hexagonal extensions of toroidal maps and hypermaps

    The rank 3 concept of a hypermap has recently been generalized to a higher rank structure in which hypermaps can be seen as “hyperfaces” but very few examples can be found in literature. We study finite rank 4 structures obtained by hexagonal extensions of toroidal hypermaps. Many new examples are produced that are regular or chiral, even when the extensions are polytopal.     Atomic Layer Deposition of CsI and CsPbI3

    Cesium iodide (CsI) is a well-established scintillator material that also serves as a precursor for all-inorganic halide perovskite solar absorbers, such as CsPbI3. However, the lack of conformal and scalable methods to deposit halide perovskite thin films remains a major challenge on their way to commercialization. In this work, we employ atomic layer deposition (ALD) as the key method due to its inherent scalability to large areas and complex-shaped surfaces. We demonstrate two new ALD processes for the deposition of CsI and CsPbI3 thin films. The CsI process relies on cesium bis(trimethylsilyl) amide (Cs(btsa)) and tin(IV) iodide (SnI4) as precursors and yields high-purity, uniform, and phase-pure thin films. This process works in a wide temperature range (140-350 degrees C) and exhibits a large growth per cycle value (GPC) of 3.3 angstrom (85% of a CsI monolayer). Furthermore, we convert CsI into CsPbI3 perovskite by exposing a CsI film to our earlier PbI2 ALD process. We demonstrate the deposition of phase-pure gamma- or delta-CsPbI3 perovskite thin films, depending on the applied deposition temperature and number of PbI2 cycles. We believe that the ALD-based approach described in this work will offer a viable alternative for depositing perovskite thin films in applications that involve complex high aspect ratio structures or large substrate areas.Peer reviewe

    Beyond satisfaction: Using the Dynamics of Care assessment to better understand patients' experiences in care

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Patient perceptions of and satisfaction with care have become important indicators of the quality of services and the relationship of services to treatment outcomes. However, assessment of these indicators continues to be plagued by measurement problems, particularly the lack of variance in satisfaction data. In this article, we present a new approach to better capture patient perceptions of experiences in care, the Dynamics of Care (DoC) assessment. It is an in-depth approach to defining and assessing patients' perspectives at different junctures in care, including their decisions about whether and where to seek care, the barriers encountered, and the treatments and services received.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The purpose of this article is to describe, validate, and discuss the benefits and limitations of the DoC, which was administered as part of a longitudinal study to evaluate the New York State HIV Special Needs Plan (SNP), a Medicaid managed care model for people living with HIV/AIDS. Data are from 426 study respondents across two time points.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The results demonstrate the validity and value of the DoC. Help seeking decisions and satisfaction with care appear to be situation-specific, rather than person-specific. However, barriers to care appear to be more cross-situational for respondents, and may be associated with clients' living situations or care arrangements. Inventories in this assessment that were designed to identify potential deterrents to help seeking and difficulties encountered in care demonstrated clear principal component structures, and helped to explain satisfaction with care. The problem resolution index was found to be independent from satisfaction with care and the data were more normally distributed. DoC data were also associated with subsequent utilization and change in quality of life.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The DoC was designed to be a flexible, integrated measure to determine individuals' salient service needs, help seeking and experiences in care. One of the many strengths of the assessment is its focus on specific problems in context, thus providing a more sensitive and informative way to understand processes in care from the patient's perspective. This approach can be used to direct new programs and resources to the patients and situations that require them.</p

    Molecular and pathological characterization of the EZH2 rs3757441 single nucleotide polymorphism in colorectal cancer

    Background The enhancer of zeste-homolog 2 (EZH2) is involved in cancer development through gene silencing by trimethylation of lysine 27 of histone 3 (H3K27me3). The C/C genotype for the EZH2 rs3757441 single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) is linked with poor prognosis in metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC), but molecular and pathological characterization of this SNP is lacking. Methods 119 primary CRCs were analyzed. SNP was evaluated by real-time PCR from colonic healthy tissue, while EZH2 and H3K27me3 expression were studied by immunohistochemistry. We primarily looked for correlation between EZH2 rs3757441 genotypes and EZH2/H3K27me3 expression. Potential associations between EZH2/H3K27me3 expression and clinico-pathological features or KRAS exon 2 and BRAF exon 15 mutations were secondary endpoints. Statistical analysis was performed by chi-square test, T-test or ANOVA. Results The C/C genotype was significantly associated with higher EZH2 (100 vs. 44 %; P = 0.019) and H3K27me3 (100 vs. 38 %; P = 0.009) staining intensity compared with C/T and T/T. EZH2 3+ staining significantly correlated with stronger H3K27me3 expression (P = 0.039). KRAS and BRAF mutations were not associated with EZH2 or H3K27me3 expression. Conclusion EZH2 rs3757441 C/C genotype is associated with stronger EZH2 and H3K27me3 immunoreactivity in primary CRC: this SNP may serve as a promising biomarker for EZH2-targeting agents and may add independent information to KRAS and BRAF testing

    Mouse screen reveals multiple new genes underlying mouse and human hearing loss.

    Adult-onset hearing loss is very common, but we know little about the underlying molecular pathogenesis impeding the development of therapies. We took a genetic approach to identify new molecules involved in hearing loss by screening a large cohort of newly generated mouse mutants using a sensitive electrophysiological test, the auditory brainstem response (ABR). We review here the findings from this screen. Thirty-eight unexpected genes associated with raised thresholds were detected from our unbiased sample of 1,211 genes tested, suggesting extreme genetic heterogeneity. A wide range of auditory pathophysiologies was found, and some mutant lines showed normal development followed by deterioration of responses, revealing new molecular pathways involved in progressive hearing loss. Several of the genes were associated with the range of hearing thresholds in the human population and one, SPNS2, was involved in childhood deafness. The new pathways required for maintenance of hearing discovered by this screen present new therapeutic opportunities

    Masses, radii, and orbits of small Kepler planets : The transition from gaseous to rocky planets

    We report on the masses, sizes, and orbits of the planets orbiting 22 Kepler stars. There are 49 planet candidates around these stars, including 42 detected through transits and 7 revealed by precise Doppler measurements of the host stars. Based on an analysis of the Kepler brightness measurements, along with high-resolution imaging and spectroscopy, Doppler spectroscopy, and (for 11 stars) asteroseismology, we establish low false-positive probabilities (FPPs) for all of the transiting planets (41 of 42 have an FPP under 1%), and we constrain their sizes and masses. Most of the transiting planets are smaller than three times the size of Earth. For 16 planets, the Doppler signal was securely detected, providing a direct measurement of the planet's mass. For the other 26 planets we provide either marginal mass measurements or upper limits to their masses and densities; in many cases we can rule out a rocky composition. We identify six planets with densities above 5 g cm-3, suggesting a mostly rocky interior for them. Indeed, the only planets that are compatible with a purely rocky composition are smaller than 2 R ⊕. Larger planets evidently contain a larger fraction of low-density material (H, He, and H2O).Peer reviewedFinal Accepted Versio
