A search for the direct production of charginos and neutralinos in final states with at least two hadronically decaying tau leptons is presented. The analysis uses a dataset of pp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb−1, recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of 13TeV.Nosignificant deviation from the expected Standard Model background is observed. Limits are derived in scenarios of ˜χ+1 ˜χ−1 pair production and of ˜χ±1 ˜χ02 and ˜χ+1 ˜χ−1 production in simplified models where the neutralinos and charginos decay solely via intermediate left-handed staus and tau sneutrinos, and the mass of the ˜ τL state is set to be halfway between the masses of the ˜χ±1 and the ˜χ01. Chargino masses up to 630 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level in the scenario of direct production of ˜χ+1 ˜χ−1 for a massless ˜χ01. Common ˜χ±1 and ˜χ02 masses up to 760 GeV are excluded in the case of production of ˜χ±1 ˜χ02 and ˜χ+1 ˜χ−1 assuming a massless ˜χ01. Exclusion limits for additional benchmark scenarios with large and small mass-splitting between the ˜χ±1 and the ˜χ01 are also studied by varying the ˜ τL mass between the masses of the ˜χ±1 and the ˜χ01

Effects of vigabatrin intake on brain GABA activity as monitored by spectrally edited magnetic resonance spectroscopy and positron emission tomography

A deficit in gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels in the brain or the cerebrospinal fluid (CSP) is found in many epilepsy patients. Frequency and severity of seizures may be reduced by treatment with GABA increasing medicaments as e.g. vigabatrin, an irreversible inhibitor of GABA-transaminase. For a better understanding of the associated effects, healthy volunteers were examined with magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and positron emission tomography (PET) before and after intake of different doses of vigabatrin. For the MRS examinations, a dedicated localized spectral editing method was developed to determine GABA levels. The C-11-flumazenil (FMZ)-PET protocol allowed determination of GABA-A receptor binding. The results show a clear and dose-dependent increase in the brain GABA levels after the medication period as compared to the baseline values. The GABA-A receptor binding, on the other hand, did not change significantly. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Inc

Intellectual Capital and Firm Performance in Vietnam: The Moderating Role of Corporate Social Responsibility

    No full text
The effects of intellectual capital on firm performance have been extensively investigated. However, the important role of corporate social responsibility in moderating this intellectual capital–performance nexus has largely been neglected in the existing literature. This study uses a sample of 60 listed firms on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange from 2011 to 2020 to examine the independent and joint effects of intellectual capital and corporate social responsibility on firm performance in Vietnam. The generalized method of moments is used. We find that both independent and joint effects exist. Furthermore, our results suggest that structural capital efficiency and capital employed efficiency are the two critical components of intellectual capital affecting firm performance. Interestingly, the joint effects of intellectual capital and CSR on firm performance are also confirmed in our analysis. These findings shed light on important policy implications concerning managerial policies targeting both intellectual capital and corporate social activities to improve firm performance in Vietnam

Steep increases in tuberculosis notification among young men in the industrialised districts of Danang, Vietnam

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) notification is increasing among young adults in urban provinces in Vietnam, despite having achieved World Health Organization targets for treatment success and case detection. OBJECTIVES: To identify causes for non-declining TB case rates in an urban area of Vietnam, and to describe trends in new smear-positive pulmonary TB notification by age, sex and district in the period 1999-2004 in Danang City, Vietnam. RESULTS: Age and sex-standardised notification rates declined by 1.3% (95%CI -2.3-0.3%) annually. Notification rates among men aged 15-44 in Danang City increased significantly (5%, 95%CI 2.4-7.7 annually), most notably in industrialised districts (>or=12% annually). CONCLUSION: TB notification rates among young men in an urban setting in Vietnam increased most notably in industrialised districts. We hypothesise that this is due to poor living and working conditions and internal migration rather than to an emerging human immunodeficiency virus epidemi
