Prozessmanagement als Gestaltungshebel der digitalen Transformation?
Bietet das Hype-Thema «digitale Transformation» die Chance, Prozessmanagement in ein ganz neues Licht zu rücken? Ist Prozessmanagement vielleicht sogar eine wesentliche Voraussetzung, um den digitalen Wandel zielgenauer zu gestalten? Oder wird Prozessmanagement im Zeitalter der selbstorganisierenden Teams und Customer Journeys letztlich überflüssig? Nicht nur Branchen, sondern auch Managementdisziplinen sind herausgefordert, sich mit der Relevanz der digitalen Transformation zu beschäftigen, sich neu zu ordnen, sich besser zu verzahnen und sich letztlich zu wandeln. Ziel der Business-Process-Management-Studie 2016, mit der das Institut für Wirtschaftsinformatik der Zürcher Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften, School of Management and Law seit 2011 regelmässig Status quo und Best Practices im deutschsprachigen Raum erhebt, war es, die Rolle des Prozessmanagements als Gestaltungshebel der digitalen Transformation zu beleuchten
Retirement village physical activity and nutrition intervention process evaluation:Informing practice

Objective: This process evaluation aimed to determine participants’ perceptions of the strategies utilised in a six-month intervention that set out to improve physical activity and nutrition in retirement village (RV) residents. Methods: Qualitative and quantitative data were collected from intervention participants residing in 17 RVs located in Perth, Western Australia, via self-report questionnaires (n = 139) and semi-structured interviews (n = 16). Results: Intervention resources were moderately useful and suitable. Program ambassadors were encouraging (86%), but more frequent, and more direct, contact were preferred. The main reason for withdrawing from the program was health-related conditions (aches, pains, injuries). Conclusion: This study provides evidence that the intervention was reasonably appropriate for older adults residing in RVs. Program ambassadors were well accepted, a successful strategy that should be considered for future interventions in RVs. Increased face-to-face engagement was preferred, but such an approach will require greater investment. The findings contribute to a small research base concerned with health behaviour interventions in RVs
Problem gambling: a suitable case for social work?
Problem gambling attracts little attention from health and social care agencies
in the UK. Prevalence surveys suggest that 0.6% of the population are
problem gamblers and it is suggested that for each of these individuals,
10–17 other people, including children and other family members, are
affected. Problem gambling is linked to many individual and social problems
including: depression, suicide, significant debt, bankruptcy, family conflict,
domestic violence, neglect and maltreatment of children and offending.
This makes the issue central to social work territory. Yet, the training of
social workers in the UK has consistently neglected issues of addictive
behaviour. Whilst some attention has been paid in recent years to substance
abuse issues, there has remained a silence in relation to gambling
problems. Social workers provide more help for problems relating to addictions
than other helping professions. There is good evidence that treatment,
and early intervention for gambling problems, including psycho-social and
public health approaches, can be very effective. This paper argues that
problem gambling should be moved onto the radar of the social work profession,
via inclusion on qualifying and post-qualifying training programmes
and via research and dissemination of good practice via institutions such as
the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE).

Big dams and salmon evolution: changes in thermal regimes and their potential evolutionary consequences
Dams designed for hydropower and other purposes alter the environments of many economically important fishes, including Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha). We estimated that dams on the Rogue River, the Willamette River, the Cowlitz River, and Fall Creek decreased water temperatures during summer and increased water temperatures during fall and winter. These thermal changes undoubtedly impact the behavior, physiology, and life histories of Chinook salmon. For example, relatively high temperatures during the fall and winter should speed growth and development, leading to early emergence of fry. Evolutionary theory provides tools to predict selective pressures and genetic responses caused by this environmental warming. Here, we illustrate this point by conducting a sensitivity analysis of the fitness consequences of thermal changes caused by dams, mediated by the thermal sensitivity of embryonic development. Based on our model, we predict Chinook salmon likely suffered a decrease in mean fitness after the construction of a dam in the Rogue River. Nevertheless, these demographic impacts might have resulted in strong selection for compensatory strategies, such as delayed spawning by adults or slowed development by embryos. Because the thermal effects of dams vary throughout the year, we predict dams impacted late spawners more than early spawners. Similar analyses could shed light on the evolutionary consequences of other environmental perturbations and their interactions
Stigma and social support in substance abuse: Implications for mental health and well-being
Individuals with substance abuse may suffer from severe public and internalized stigma. Little is known about how social support can reduce stigma and improve mental health and well-being for them. This research examined how perceived stigma influences individuals in treatment for substance abuse, and whether internalized stigma and shame are mechanisms which link social support with better mental health and well-being. Sixty-four participants in treatment for substance abuse (alcohol, drugs), aged between 18 and 64, completed an online survey measuring perceived stigma, internalized stigma, shame, perceived social support, and mental health and well-being (self-esteem, depression and anxiety, sleep). We found that perceived stigma was associated with lower self-esteem, higher depression and anxiety, and poorer sleep. Furthermore, perceived social support followed the opposite pattern, and was associated with higher self-esteem, lower depression and anxiety, and better sleep. The effects of perceived stigma and of perceived social support on our outcome measures were mediated by internalized stigma and by internalized shame. Helping individuals with substance abuse to utilize their social support may be fruitful for combatting the negative impact of internalized stigma and shame on mental health and well-being
Communicating Phylogeny: Evolutionary Tree Diagrams in Museums
Tree of life diagrams are graphic representations of phylogeny—the evolutionary history and
relationships of lineages—and as such these graphics have the potential to convey key evolutionary
ideas and principles to a variety of audiences. Museums play a significant role in teaching about
evolution to the public, and tree graphics form a common element in many exhibits even though
little is known about their impact on visitor understanding. How phylogenies are depicted and used
in informal science settings impacts their accessibility and effectiveness in communicating about
evolution to visitors. In this paper, we summarize the analysis of 185 tree of life graphics collected
from museum exhibits at 52 institutions and highlight some potential implications of how trees are
presented that may support or hinder visitors’ understanding about evolution. While further work is
needed, existing learning research suggests that common elements among the diversity of museum
trees such as the inclusion of anagenesis and absence of time and shared characters might
represent potential barriers to visitor understanding

Choosing best practices for managing impacts of trawl fishing on seabed habitats and biota
Bottom trawling accounts for almost one quarter of global fish landings but may also have significant and unwanted impacts on seabed habitats and biota. Management measures and voluntary industry actions can reduce these impacts, helping to meet sustainability objectives for fisheries, conservation and environmental management. These include changes in gear design and operation of trawls, spatial controls, impact quotas and effort controls. We review nine different measures and actions and use published studies anda simple conceptual model to evaluate and compare their performance. The risks and benefits of these management measures depend on the extent to which the fishery is already achieving management objectives for target stocks and the characteristics of the management system that is already in place. We offer guidance on identifying best practices for trawl-fisheries management and show that best practices and their likelihood of reducing trawling impacts depend on local, national and regional management objectives and priorities, societal values and resources for implementation. There is no universalbest practice, and multiple management measures and industry actions are required to meet sustainability objectives and improve trade-offs between food production and environmental protection
