Initiatives related to electronic government have proliferated in the last decade, both at international or national level, not only due to saving features that provide but also by the impact they can have on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of services provided by public administration. The interoperability among information systems that support the operation of government bodies and the provision of public services to citizens, both at regional, national and international, have been repeatedly identified as a key requirement to be able to achieve the desired levels as the operational efficiency and effectiveness of public administration. For this fact, we have witnessed the development of significant efforts in many countries all over the globe, concerning the definition of strategies and the creation of tools aimed at promoting and developing larger and more appropriate levels of interoperability in their public administrations. One of the most developed and equipped for this purpose are called National Interoperability Frameworks (NIFS). Considering this fact, it appears increasingly relevant development tools that allow, in a simple and appropriate to aggregate the information constituents in these frameworks so as to permit consultation, comparison and cross according to different perspectives. The creation of an instrument, namely, a web platform such typology, is one of the goals of this research, along with the entire design of the web architecture and information architecture that supports the operation of the same and the definition of a model exploitation. In developing the information architecture required the previous study of comparative references to frameworks that allow determining the adoption of a data structure that supports the storage of information on the NIFs. The information service developed, called IFPortal and is available online and in the electronic address http://ifportal.zlangoo.com

IOPT Petri Net State Space Generation Algorithm with Maximal-Step Execution Semantics

This paper presents an algorithm to efficiently generate the state-space of systems specified using the IOPT Petri-net modeling formalism. IOPT nets are a non-autonomous Petri-net class, based on Place-Transition nets with an extended set of features designed to allow the rapid prototyping and synthesis of system controllers through an existing hardware-software co-design framework. To obtain coherent and deterministic operation, IOPT nets use a maximal-step execution semantics where, in a single execution step, all enabled transitions will fire simultaneously. This fact increases the resulting state-space complexity and can cause an arc "explosion" effect. Real-world applications, with several million states, will reach a higher order of magnitude number of arcs, leading to the need for high performance state-space generator algorithms. The proposed algorithm applies a compilation approach to read a PNML file containing one IOPT model and automatically generate an optimized C program to calculate the corresponding state-space

Estudos sobre a evolução do ensino de disciplinas, na formação de professores em Portugal, são recentes. O controle burocrático centralizado reteve as dimensões do controle político-administrativo. In Portugal, studies about the evolution of disciplines teaching in the teachers formation are recent. The centralized bureaucratic control has held back the dimensions of politic administrative control. In a certain way, it has protected the education against the new-fashioned influences, manufacturing capitalism, and mercantile and managerial logics. This centralized bureaucratic control has also profected the education against the politic dominion, the intervention of social movements, the advertising of democratic ideals, and against the citizenship. The use of the term "Educational administration" shows the difficulties met by the searchers along the latest years, since there is no tradiction nor historic antecedence

Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear understanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4 While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5,6,7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8,9,10,11 In the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world's most diverse rainforest and the primary source of Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepresented in biodiversity databases.13,14,15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may eliminate pieces of the Amazon's biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological communities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple organism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian Amazonia, while identifying the region's vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most neglected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by 2050. This means that unless we take immediate action, we will not be able to establish their current status, much less monitor how it is changing and what is being lost

IFPortal – a web portal for the characterization and comparison of government interoperability frameworks

The search for better and more adequate levels of government information systems interoperability led many governments all over the world to develop, adopt and publish what is known as e-government interoperability frameworks – documents that specify a set of common elements such as vocabularies, concepts, principles, policies, guidelines, recommendations, standards, and practices for agencies that wish to work together, towards the joint delivery of public services. The central purpose of this paper is to present a detailed description of a portal — IFPortal — that could provide a simple and appropriate way to aggregate, analyze, compare, and display information about e-government interoperability frameworks. Such a portal will enable the registration, search, visualization, analysis, and comparison of interoperability frameworks’ content, structure and scope, thus allowing for the identification of similarities and differences among them. An IFPortal prototype, already developed, is also presented and may be accessed in order to exemplify the IFPortal concept.(undefined

The hardware platforms used in CPSs may employ physical devices without graphical and user-input capabilities, or devices that may be placed on multiple remote locations, often with difficult physical access, that brings new challenges to GUI design. The proposed tool, integrated within the IOPT-Flow framework, enables a new approach to answer these challenges. This framework supports the development of embedded systems and distributed CPSs, offering a set of web-based tools for model edition, simulation, and implementation on physical devices. Systems are designed using graphical models combining Data-flows, Signals, and Petri nets, that permit the specification of remote communication channels just by drawing arcs. The new GUI Builder tool uses this infrastructure to automate the creation of graphical user interfaces for embedded systems and distributed CPSs, benefiting from a development with combined design, validation and automatic code generation methods. Finally, an application example of a power wheelchair controller integrating a GUI, is presented.publishersversionpublishe

As part of an EU funded project to investigate the factors influencing bone preservation in the archaeological record, more than 250 bones from 41 archaeological sites in five countries spanning four climatic regions were studied for diagenetic alteration. Sites were selected to cover a range of environmental conditions and archaeological contexts. Microscopic and physical (mercury intrusion porosimetry) analyses of these bones revealed that the majority (68%) had suffered microbial attack. Furthermore, significant differences were found between animal and human bone in both the state of preservation and the type of microbial attack present. These differences in preservation might result from differences in early taphonomy of the bones. © 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved
