Derivative based global sensitivity measures
The method of derivative based global sensitivity measures (DGSM) has
recently become popular among practitioners. It has a strong link with the
Morris screening method and Sobol' sensitivity indices and has several
advantages over them. DGSM are very easy to implement and evaluate numerically.
The computational time required for numerical evaluation of DGSM is generally
much lower than that for estimation of Sobol' sensitivity indices. This paper
presents a survey of recent advances in DGSM concerning lower and upper bounds
on the values of Sobol' total sensitivity indices . Using these
bounds it is possible in most cases to get a good practical estimation of the
values of . Several examples are used to illustrate an
application of DGSM

We propose an experiment at the LHC with leading neutron production.The
latter can be used to extract from it the total cross-sections. With
two leading neutrons we can get access to the total
cross-sections. In this note we give some estimates and discuss related

Resonant nuclear transition in the d-mu-Li6 muonic molecule
The reaction rate of the nuclear fusion d+Li6 ----> Be8*(2+,0) is estimated
in the case where the nuclei are confined to each other by a muon. For the
description of nuclear transitions, a method which is analogous to the Linear
Combination of Atomic Orbitals has been used. Using the complex coordinate
rotation method, we found that a molecular d-mu-Li6 state exists with energy
(-20.3084-i0.0066) eV and |\Psi_{m}(0)|=0.44x10^{-7} fm^-3/2. The nuclear wave
functions needed, were constructed in the form of antisymmetrized products of
harmonic-oscillator functions for the three-cluster approximation, (dd\alpha),
to the five-body (NNNN\alpha) problem. It was found that the reaction rate
\lambda is strongly dependent on the energy gap between the d-Li6 threshold and
the energy of the final Be8^* resonant state. The value of \lambda obtained by
averaging over the width of this resonance, is 0.183x10^10 sec^{-1}.Comment: REVTEX, 63K, no postscripts, 21 pages, submitted to Phys.Rev.
Survival of Chondrocytes in Rabbit Septal Cartilage After Electromechanical Reshaping
Electromechanical reshaping (EMR) has been recently described as an alternative method for reshaping facial cartilage without the need for incisions or sutures. This study focuses on determining the short- and long-term viability of chondrocytes following EMR in cartilage grafts maintained in tissue culture. Flat rabbit nasal septal cartilage specimens were bent into semi-cylindrical shapes by an aluminum jig while a constant electric voltage was applied across the concave and convex surfaces. After EMR, specimens were maintained in culture media for 64Â days. Over this time period, specimens were serially biopsied and then stained with a fluorescent liveâdead assay system and imaged using laser scanning confocal microscopy. In addition, the fraction of viable chondrocytes was measured, correlated with voltage, voltage application time, electric field configuration, and examined serially. The fraction of viable chondrocytes decreased with voltage and application time. High local electric field intensity and proximity to the positive electrode also focally reduced chondrocyte viability. The density of viable chondrocytes decreased over time and reached a steady state after 2â4Â weeks. Viable cells were concentrated within the central region of the specimen. Approximately 20% of original chondrocytes remained viable after reshaping with optimal voltage and application time parameters and compared favorably with conventional surgical shape change techniques such as morselization
Search for the standard model Higgs boson in the H to ZZ to 2l 2nu channel in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV
A search for the standard model Higgs boson in the H to ZZ to 2l 2nu decay
channel, where l = e or mu, in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7
TeV is presented. The data were collected at the LHC, with the CMS detector,
and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 inverse femtobarns. No
significant excess is observed above the background expectation, and upper
limits are set on the Higgs boson production cross section. The presence of the
standard model Higgs boson with a mass in the 270-440 GeV range is excluded at
95% confidence level.Comment: Submitted to JHE
Search for anomalous t t-bar production in the highly-boosted all-hadronic final state
A search is presented for a massive particle, generically referred to as a
Z', decaying into a t t-bar pair. The search focuses on Z' resonances that are
sufficiently massive to produce highly Lorentz-boosted top quarks, which yield
collimated decay products that are partially or fully merged into single jets.
The analysis uses new methods to analyze jet substructure, providing
suppression of the non-top multijet backgrounds. The analysis is based on a
data sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV,
corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5 inverse femtobarns. Upper limits
in the range of 1 pb are set on the product of the production cross section and
branching fraction for a topcolor Z' modeled for several widths, as well as for
a Randall--Sundrum Kaluza--Klein gluon. In addition, the results constrain any
enhancement in t t-bar production beyond expectations of the standard model for
t t-bar invariant masses larger than 1 TeV.Comment: Submitted to the Journal of High Energy Physics; this version

Combined search for the quarks of a sequential fourth generation
Results are presented from a search for a fourth generation of quarks
produced singly or in pairs in a data set corresponding to an integrated
luminosity of 5 inverse femtobarns recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC in
2011. A novel strategy has been developed for a combined search for quarks of
the up and down type in decay channels with at least one isolated muon or
electron. Limits on the mass of the fourth-generation quarks and the relevant
Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements are derived in the context of a
simple extension of the standard model with a sequential fourth generation of
fermions. The existence of mass-degenerate fourth-generation quarks with masses
below 685 GeV is excluded at 95% confidence level for minimal off-diagonal
mixing between the third- and the fourth-generation quarks. With a mass
difference of 25 GeV between the quark masses, the obtained limit on the masses
of the fourth-generation quarks shifts by about +/- 20 GeV. These results
significantly reduce the allowed parameter space for a fourth generation of
