This panel presents research that has explored young people in relation to data traces in digital, networked platforms supported and made accessible through Internet connected devices, applications, and platforms, asking the question: how might we help youth, as data subjects, gain a sophisticated understanding of data, including the processes involved in data creation, collection, curation, and aggregation with networked devices, platforms, and information services? Gemini GMOS and WHT SAURON integral-field spectrograph observations of the AGN driven outflow in NGC 1266
We use the SAURON and GMOS integral field spectrographs to observe the active
galactic nucleus (AGN) powered outflow in NGC 1266. This unusual galaxy is
relatively nearby (D=30 Mpc), allowing us to investigate the process of AGN
feedback in action. We present maps of the kinematics and line strengths of the
ionised gas emission lines Halpha, Hbeta, [OIII], [OI], [NII] and [SII], and
report on the detection of Sodium D absorption. We use these tracers to explore
the structure of the source, derive the ionised and atomic gas kinematics and
investigate the gas excitation and physical conditions. NGC 1266 contains two
ionised gas components along most lines of sight, tracing the ongoing outflow
and a component closer to the galaxy systemic, the origin of which is unclear.
This gas appears to be disturbed by a nascent AGN jet. We confirm that the
outflow in NGC 1266 is truly multiphase, containing radio plasma, atomic,
molecular and ionised gas and X-ray emitting plasma. The outflow has velocities
up to \pm900 km/s away from the systemic velocity, and is very likely to be
removing significant amounts of cold gas from the galaxy. The LINER-like
line-emission in NGC 1266 is extended, and likely arises from fast shocks
caused by the interaction of the radio jet with the ISM. These shocks have
velocities of up to 800 km/s, which match well with the observed velocity of
the outflow. Sodium D equivalent width profiles are used to set constraints on
the size and orientation of the outflow. The ionised gas morphology correlates
with the nascent radio jets observed in 1.4 GHz and 5 GHz continuum emission,
supporting the suggestion that an AGN jet is providing the energy required to

Preserving and Using Germplasm and Dissociated Embryonic Cells for Conserving Caribbean and Pacific Coral
Coral reefs are experiencing unprecedented degradation due to human activities, and protecting specific reef habitats may not stop this decline, because the most serious threats are global (i.e., climate change), not local. However, ex situ preservation practices can provide safeguards for coral reef conservation. Specifically, modern advances in cryobiology and genome banking could secure existing species and genetic diversity until genotypes can be introduced into rehabilitated habitats. We assessed the feasibility of recovering viable sperm and embryonic cells post-thaw from two coral species, Acropora palmata and Fungia scutaria that have diffferent evolutionary histories, ecological niches and reproductive strategies. In vitro fertilization (IVF) of conspecific eggs using fresh (control) spermatozoa revealed high levels of fertilization (>90% in A. palmata; >84% in F. scutaria; P>0.05) that were unaffected by tested sperm concentrations. A solution of 10% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) at cooling rates of 20 to 30°C/min most successfully cryopreserved both A. palmata and F. scutaria spermatozoa and allowed producing developing larvae in vitro. IVF success under these conditions was 65% in A. palmata and 53% in F. scutaria on particular nights; however, on subsequent nights, the same process resulted in little or no IVF success. Thus, the window for optimal freezing of high quality spermatozoa was short (âŒ5 h for one night each spawning cycle). Additionally, cryopreserved F. scutaria embryonic cells hadâŒ50% post-thaw viability as measured by intact membranes. Thus, despite some differences between species, coral spermatozoa and embryonic cells are viable after low temperature (â196°C) storage, preservation and thawing. Based on these results, we have begun systematically banking coral spermatozoa and embryonic cells on a large-scale as a support approach for preserving existing bio- and genetic diversity found in reef systems
COVID-19 symptoms at hospital admission vary with age and sex: results from the ISARIC prospective multinational observational study
Background:
The ISARIC prospective multinational observational study is the largest cohort of hospitalized patients with COVID-19. We present relationships of age, sex, and nationality to presenting symptoms.
Methods:
International, prospective observational study of 60â109 hospitalized symptomatic patients with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 recruited from 43 countries between 30 January and 3 August 2020. Logistic regression was performed to evaluate relationships of age and sex to published COVID-19 case definitions and the most commonly reported symptoms.
Results:
âTypicalâ symptoms of fever (69%), cough (68%) and shortness of breath (66%) were the most commonly reported. 92% of patients experienced at least one of these. Prevalence of typical symptoms was greatest in 30- to 60-year-olds (respectively 80, 79, 69%; at least one 95%). They were reported less frequently in children (â€â18 years: 69, 48, 23; 85%), older adults (â„â70 years: 61, 62, 65; 90%), and women (66, 66, 64; 90%; vs. men 71, 70, 67; 93%, each Pâ<â0.001). The most common atypical presentations under 60 years of age were nausea and vomiting and abdominal pain, and over 60 years was confusion. Regression models showed significant differences in symptoms with sex, age and country.
Interpretation:
This international collaboration has allowed us to report reliable symptom data from the largest cohort of patients admitted to hospital with COVID-19. Adults over 60 and children admitted to hospital with COVID-19 are less likely to present with typical symptoms. Nausea and vomiting are common atypical presentations under 30 years. Confusion is a frequent atypical presentation of COVID-19 in adults over 60 years. Women are less likely to experience typical symptoms than men

Three-dimensional echocardiographic analysis of mitral annular dynamics: implication for annuloplasty selection.
BACKGROUND: Proponents of flexible annuloplasty rings have hypothesized that such devices maintain annular dynamics. This hypothesis is based on the supposition that annular motion is relatively normal in patients undergoing mitral valve repair. We hypothesized that mitral annular dynamics are impaired in ischemic mitral regurgitation and myxomatous mitral regurgitation.
METHODS AND RESULTS: A Philips iE33 echocardiographic module and X7-2t probe were used to acquire full-volume real-time 3-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography loops in 11 normal subjects, 11 patients with ischemic mitral regurgitation and 11 patients with myxomatous mitral regurgitation. Image analysis was performed using Tomtec Image Arena, 4D-MV Assessment, 2.1 (Munich, Germany). A midsystolic frame was selected for the initiation of annular tracking using the semiautomated program. Continuous parameters were normalized in time to provide for uniform systolic and diastolic periods. Both ischemic mitral regurgitation (9.98 ± 155 cm(2)) and myxomatous mitral regurgitation annuli (13.29 ± 3.05 cm(2)) were larger in area than normal annuli (7.95 ± 1.40 cm(2)) at midsystole. In general, ischemic mitral regurgitation annuli were less dynamic than controls. In myxomatous mitral regurgitation, annular dynamics were also markedly abnormal with the mitral annulus dilating rapidly in early systole in response to rising ventricular pressure.
CONCLUSIONS: In both ischemic mitral regurgitation and myxomatous mitral regurgitation, annular dynamics and anatomy are abnormal. Flexible annuloplasty devices used in mitral valve repair are, therefore, unlikely to result in either normal annular dynamics or normal anatomy
