Information technology has changed the way we live, twenty years ago without thinking of making electronic changes without a human intermediary. Technologies are considered a source of growth, but it represents a risk for certain sectors of the population where it is not yet accessible, which implies social inequality, leading to exclusion from access to information and the use of technologies. For example, older adults, due to the inherent barriers of old age when interacting with digital interfaces. The objective of this project is to recognize the state of the art of the processes used to improve the user experience of the elderly on websites, through a bibliometric analysis and to have a reference framework that allows selecting the best practices and implementing them at the moment. working with the design of the Baja California citizen portal.Las tecnologías de la información han cambiado la forma en que vivimos, hace veinte años no pensábamos en realizar transacciones electrónicas sin un humano de intermediario. Las tecnologías son consideradas una fuente de crecimiento, pero significa un riesgo para ciertos sectores de la población donde aún no es accesible, lo que implica una desigualdad social, por que provoca la exclusión al acceso a la información y al uso de las tecnologías. Por ejemplo, la población de adultos mayores, debido a las barreras inherentes a la vejez al interactuar con sistemas computacionales. La adopción de las redes sociales en las pequeñas y medianas empresas del sector manufacturero en Baja California

Currently,   information   and   communication   technologies   (IT)   are   a   fundamental   part   of organizational  activity.  IT  solutions  aim  to  support  organizational  processes,  both administrative and  productive  trying  to  reduce  costs  and  improve  positioning  in  international markets.  Each company determines which technology  is more appropriate to handle its diverse activities. Social networks  can  have  a  huge  impact  becoming  a  tool  of  communication  between  customers, suppliers,  and  employees  enabling  the  opening  of  new  markets  and  the  increase  of  businesses competitiveness.  Therefore,  measuring  its  rate  adoption  can  be  decisive  for  the  growth  of organizations.  In  this  research  we  measured  the  adoption  and  perception  of  social  networks  in small and medium sized enterprisesin the manufacturing sector in Baja California. This, in orderto identify if organizations are prepared to take advantage of the benefits that social networks can bring.Las empresas cada vez tienen mayor uso de las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación para sus procesos y como apoyo a sus ventas, asimismo hay empresas que utilizan distintas tecnologías y herramientas para aumentar su producción, ventas, controles, minería de datos, entre otras. Cada empresa determina cuál de las tecnologías es la más apropiada, pero hay un sector que por su giro no ve reflejado el apoyo que puede tener en sus procesos, y es el sector manufacturero. Es por ello que medir su adopción de la tecnología puede ser decisivo para el despegue de una empresa o su estancamiento. En especial las redes sociales pueden ser de gran impacto en la empresa, aun cuando se consideran que solo son utilizadas para el ocio, pueden convertirse en una herramienta para la comunicación entre clientes, proveedores y empleados, además de abrir nuevos horizontes, es decir, ser más competitiva. Clonal chromosomal mosaicism and loss of chromosome Y in elderly men increase vulnerability for SARS-CoV-2

The pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19) had an estimated overall case fatality ratio of 1.38% (pre-vaccination), being 53% higher in males and increasing exponentially with age. Among 9578 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 in the SCOURGE study, we found 133 cases (1.42%) with detectable clonal mosaicism for chromosome alterations (mCA) and 226 males (5.08%) with acquired loss of chromosome Y (LOY). Individuals with clonal mosaic events (mCA and/or LOY) showed a 54% increase in the risk of COVID-19 lethality. LOY is associated with transcriptomic biomarkers of immune dysfunction, pro-coagulation activity and cardiovascular risk. Interferon-induced genes involved in the initial immune response to SARS-CoV-2 are also down-regulated in LOY. Thus, mCA and LOY underlie at least part of the sex-biased severity and mortality of COVID-19 in aging patients. Given its potential therapeutic and prognostic relevance, evaluation of clonal mosaicism should be implemented as biomarker of COVID-19 severity in elderly people. Taking the pulse of Earth's tropical forests using networks of highly distributed plots

Tropical forests are the most diverse and productive ecosystems on Earth. While better understanding of these forests is critical for our collective future, until quite recently efforts to measure and monitor them have been largely disconnected. Networking is essential to discover the answers to questions that transcend borders and the horizons of funding agencies. Here we show how a global community is responding to the challenges of tropical ecosystem research with diverse teams measuring forests tree-by-tree in thousands of long-term plots. We review the major scientific discoveries of this work and show how this process is changing tropical forest science. Our core approach involves linking long-term grassroots initiatives with standardized protocols and data management to generate robust scaled-up results. By connecting tropical researchers and elevating their status, our Social Research Network model recognises the key role of the data originator in scientific discovery. Conceived in 1999 with RAINFOR (South America), our permanent plot networks have been adapted to Africa (AfriTRON) and Southeast Asia (T-FORCES) and widely emulated worldwide. Now these multiple initiatives are integrated via ForestPlots.net cyber-infrastructure, linking colleagues from 54 countries across 24 plot networks. Collectively these are transforming understanding of tropical forests and their biospheric role. Together we have discovered how, where and why forest carbon and biodiversity are responding to climate change, and how they feedback on it. This long-term pan-tropical collaboration has revealed a large long-term carbon sink and its trends, as well as making clear which drivers are most important, which forest processes are affected, where they are changing, what the lags are, and the likely future responses of tropical forests as the climate continues to change. By leveraging a remarkably old technology, plot networks are sparking a very modern revolution in tropical forest science. Prosthetic Valve Candida spp. Endocarditis: New Insights Into Long-term Prognosis—The ESCAPE Study

International audienceBackground: Prosthetic valve endocarditis caused by Candida spp. (PVE-C) is rare and devastating, with international guidelines based on expert recommendations supporting the combination of surgery and subsequent azole treatment.Methods: We retrospectively analyzed PVE-C cases collected in Spain and France between 2001 and 2015, with a focus on management and outcome.Results: Forty-six cases were followed up for a median of 9 months. Twenty-two patients (48%) had a history of endocarditis, 30 cases (65%) were nosocomial or healthcare related, and 9 (20%) patients were intravenous drug users. "Induction" therapy consisted mainly of liposomal amphotericin B (L-amB)-based (n = 21) or echinocandin-based therapy (n = 13). Overall, 19 patients (41%) were operated on. Patients <66 years old and without cardiac failure were more likely to undergo cardiac surgery (adjusted odds ratios [aORs], 6.80 [95% confidence interval [CI], 1.59-29.13] and 10.92 [1.15-104.06], respectively). Surgery was not associated with better survival rates at 6 months. Patients who received L-amB alone had a better 6-month survival rate than those who received an echinocandin alone (aOR, 13.52; 95% CI, 1.03-838.10). "Maintenance" fluconazole therapy, prescribed in 21 patients for a median duration of 13 months (range, 2-84 months), led to minor adverse effects.Conclusion: L-amB induction treatment improves survival in patients with PVE-C. Medical treatment followed by long-term maintenance fluconazole may be the best treatment option for frail patients
