Promoting pre-experimental activities in high-school chemistry: focusing on the role of students' epistemic questions
In high-school chemistry the pre-experimental phase of inquiry cycles often remains neglected. According to a procedural model, which is described in the text, this phase begins with an observation which stimulates students’ prior factual knowledge, the formulation of a research question for further elaboration (epistemic questions), the anticipation of a hypothetical answer, and the planning of experimental steps for deciding on the hypothetical answer. These activities were explicitely prescribed in an experimental group of 28 tenth-graders. Raising the quality of students’ epistemic research questions by providing structured help was a special focus of the intervention. Hypothesized motivational and cognitive effects were measured and compared to a group of 25 students (control group) who engaged in non-structured pre-experimental activities. The intervention provided to the experimental group resulted in stronger preferences for a more open and non-recipe type of experimentation, in more intense cognitive activities (thoughts) and, most importantly, in increased skills for formulating causal epistemic questions. Supporting such procedural skills in classrooms may contribute to transforming labwork into intentional activities and students into active learners by helping them focus on further elaborating their knowledge
Agency, inclusion, and empathy as power: The last dispatch from my MA in Engagement Journalism (and my Final Report)
My community practicum engaged New York\u27s intellectually and developmentally disabled community, and their families, in the process of making the process of reporting abuse and neglect inside group homes more accessible and transparent. Serious abuse and neglect still happens in group homes for people with disabilities, which has led to death and serious injury, and reporting issues is not necessarily easy. After a year of listening to community concerns, I created a service journalism post that made reporting abuse and neglect easier for families and the public. And most prominently, I created How to Stand Up for Yourself in Your Home, an accessible self-advocacy guide that has been and will be distributed to group home residents across the state. It has been translated into plain language and delivered to residents however they best receive information.

The present Thesis I project to level of Engineering and his royal
application in the construction of the services of ""INFLUENCES IN THE
MODULE OF BREAK OF THE CONCRETE ONE USED IN RIGID
PAVEMENTS WITH THE USE OF ADDITIVES COLOURINGS OF
MINERAL ORIGIN"".
Which will be the influence of the use of additives colourings of mineral
origin in the module of break of concretly used in Rigid Pavements?
The testing method with the norm ASTM C39/C39M-18 for resistance to
the compression of cylindrical specimens of I make concrete in the work
and NTP 339.078-2012 (Testing method to determine the resistance to
the flexion of the concrete one in girders simply supported with loads the
thirds of the section) where the tests of compression were realized to
the manometers of concretly without colouring, and of there the tests
were realized to flexion by the girders of concretly without colouring and
without reinforcement, then I apply him in different proportions with 03
types of colourings with regard to the cement weight that adds him to
the mixture, to see the correlation that exists between the cylindrical
resistance of the concrete one and the module of break with regard to
the quantity of colouring that adds him to the mixture.
Since result obtained that in average the resistance to the compression
of the concrete one increases in 86 % for contents of 4 % of mineral
colouring and also there was obtained that in average for the module of
break it diminishes 8 % for contents of 3 % mineral colouring.Tesi
Fostering collaborative knowledge construction with visualization tools
This study investigates to what extent collaborative knowledge construction can be fostered by providing students with visualization tools as structural support. Thirty-two students of Educational Psychology took part in the study. The students were subdivided into dyads and asked to solve a case problem of their learning domain under one of two conditions: 1) with content-specific visualization 2) with content-unspecific visualization. Results show that by being provided with a content-specific visualization tool, both the process and the outcome of the cooperative effort improved. More specifically, dyads under that condition referred to more adequate concepts, risked more conflicts, and were more successful in integrating prior knowledge into the collaborative solution. Moreover, those learning partners had a more similar individual learning outcome

During a two-hour period of continuous operation in the morning, the solar irradiance is relatively stable and maintained at approximately 600 W/m2, which is beneficial for analyzing the energy and exergy performance of the solar receiver. Experimental results show that the mass flow rate fluctuation has insignificant effect on the solar receiver outlet temperature, whereas the mass flow rate plays an important role in the solar receiver power, energy efficiency and exergy efficiency. The efficiency of the solar receiver is normally above 55% with the highest efficiency of 87%, and under steady state operating conditions the efficiency is maintained at approximately 60%. A very low value of the heat loss factor (0.014 kW/K) could be achieved during the current steady state operating conditions. The highest exergy efficiency is approximately 36%. In addition, as the temperature difference increases, the impact of the exergy factor increases. The highest exergy factor is 0.41 during the entire test.Peer reviewe
