Разработана математическая модель прогнозирования долговечности с использованием статистических данных, характеризующих начальное и конечное распределение продолжительности срока службы технических объектов.На основі методології марківського аналізу надійності запропоновано ймовірнісний підхід до прогнозування та оцінки довговічності технічних об’єктів.     A quantitative comparison of dispersed spore/pollen and plant megafossil assemblages from a Middle Jurassic plant bed from Yorkshire, UK

    Detailed quantitative data has previously been collected from plant megafossil assemblages from a Middle Jurassic (Aalenian) plant bed from Hasty Bank, North Yorkshire, UK. We conducted a similar analysis of palynological dispersed sporomorph (spore and pollen) assemblages collected from the same section using the same sampling regime: 67 sporomorph taxa were recorded from 50 samples taken at 10 cm intervals through the plant bed. Basic palynofacies analysis was also undertaken on each sample. Both dispersed sporomorph and plant megafossil assemblages display consistent changes in composition, diversity (richness), and abundance through time. However, the dispersed sporomorph and plant megafossil records provide conflicting evidence for the nature of parent vegetation. Specifically, conifers and ferns are underrepresented in plant megafossil assemblages, bryophytes and lycopsids are represented only in sporomorph assemblages, and sphenophytes, pteridosperms, Caytoniales, Cycadales, Ginkgoales and Bennettitales are comparatively underrepresented in sporomorph assemblages. Combined multivariate analysis (correspondence analysis and nonmetric multidimensional scaling) of sporomorph occurrence/abundance data demonstrates that temporal variation in sporomorph assemblages is the result of depositional change through the plant bed. The reproductive strategies of parent plants are considered to be a principal factor in shaping many of the major abundance and diversity irregularities between dispersed sporomorph and plant megafossil data sets that seemingly reflects different parent vegetation. Preferential occurrence/preservation of sporomorphs and equivalent parent plants is a consequence of a complex array of biological, ecological, geographical, taphonomic, and depositional factors that act inconsistently between and within fossil assemblages, which results in notable discrepancies between data sets

    Triassic-Jurassic vegetation response to carbon cycle perturbations and climate change

    Disturbances in terrestrial vegetation across the end-Triassic mass-extinction (ETME) and earliest Jurassic (∼201.5–201.3 Ma) have previously been linked to carbon cycle perturbations induced by the Central Atlantic Magmatic Province. Large-scale volcanic degassing has been proposed to have affected the terrestrial realm through various mechanisms. However, the effects of long-term “super greenhouse” climate variability on vegetation dynamics following the mass-extinction remain poorly understood. Based on a 10-million-year long multi-proxy record of northern Germany (Schandelah-1, Germany, paleolatitude of ∼41°N) spanning the late Rhaetian to the Sinemurian (∼201.5–190.8 Ma), we aim to assess mechanistic links between carbon cycle perturbations, climate change, and vegetation dynamics. Based on a high-resolution palynofloral record a two-phased extinction emerges, confirming extinction patterns seen in other studies. The first phase is associated with a decline in arborescent conifers, coinciding with a negative carbon isotope excursion and an influx of aquatic palynomorphs. Following this decline, we find a stepwise rise of ferns at the cost of trees during the latest Rhaetian, culminating with the extinction of tree taxa at the Triassic-Jurassic boundary. The rise in ferns is accompanied by an increase in reworked organic matter and charcoal, suggestive of erosion and wildfires. Furthermore, the Hettangian (201.3–199.3 Ma) vegetation in NW Europe shows evidence of long-term disturbance reflected by the periodic resurgence of fern taxa, similarly accompanied by increases in reworking and charcoal. This periodicity is linked to the 405-kyr eccentricity cycle indicating a biome that responded to astronomically induced variability in hydrology. A transition into an apparently more stable biome starts during the early Sinemurian, where palynofloral assemblages become dominated by bisaccate pollen taxa, mainly derived from conifers. The ETME was clearly forced by the effects of volcanogenic emissions, such as SO2, CO2 and other pollutants, acting on both short (0.1–10 kyrs) and long timescales (10–100 kyrs). In contrast, charcoal and detrital input indicators show that the disturbances during the Hettangian were driven by periodic shifts in the regional hydrological regime. This was forced by the effects of orbital insolation variation and potentially exacerbated by increased atmospheric pCO2. The cyclic progression of ecosystem disturbance was similar to that of the ETME and only recovered during the early Sinemurian. Atmospheric pCO2 remained elevated after CAMP-activity had subsided due to a collapse of terrestrial biomass and carbonate producers. This inability to store carbon on long timescales could therefore have impeded global recovery

    International audienceTwo fossil localities are reported on the "LGV SEA" railroad from the Lower Cenomanianof Jaunay-Clan (JC), near Poitiers, western France. The laminated mudstones yielded plantfossils including ferns (Cladophlebis, Osmundophyllum, Ruffordia goeppertii, Sphenopteris),conifers (Brachyphyllum, Dammarophyllum, Pagiophyllum), and terrestrial and aquaticfreshwater angiosperms (Eucalyptolaurus depreii, Ploufolia). They are associated with acoleopteran insect that shows systematic affinities to the modern subfamily Chrysomeli-nae (Chrysomelidae). This assemblage suggests connections with arborescent vegetationgrowing in calm freshwater environment. Brackish to marine invertebrates also occurand include a dakoticancroid crab (Brachyura, Podotremata, Dakoticancroidea) and a fewbivalves (Brachidontes). They suggest brackish episodes during pond sedimentation in acoastal environment. Lastly, vertebrates are represented by an isolated feather

    Early Cretaceous vegetation and climate change at high latitude: Palynological evidence from Isachsen Formation, Arctic Canada

    Quantitative palynology of the marginal marine and deltaic-fluvial Isachsen Formation of the Sverdrup Basin, Canadian Arctic, provides insight into high latitude climate during much of the Early Cretaceous (Valanginian to early Aptian). Detrended Correspondence Analysis of main pollen and spore taxa is used to derive three ecological groupings influenced by moisture and disturbance based on the botanical affinities of palynomorphs: 1) a mixed coniferous assemblage containing both lowland and upland components; 2) a conifer-filicopsid community that likely grew in dynamic lowland habitats; and, 3) a mature dry lowland community composed of Cheirolepidiaceans. Stratigraphic changes in the relative abundance of pollen and spore taxa reflect climate variability in this polar region during the ~20 Mya history of the Isachsen Formation. The late Valanginian was relatively cool and moist and promoted lowland conifer-filicopsid communities. Warming in the Hauterivian resulted in the expansion coniferous communities in well-drained or arid hinterlands. A return to relatively cool and moist conditions in the Barremian resulted in the expansion of mixed lowland communities. This work demonstrates the utility of a multivariate statistical approach to palynology to provide insight into the composition and dynamics of ecosystems and climate of high latitude regions during the Early Cretaceous
