    Singlet fermionic dark matter

    We propose a renormalizable model of a fermionic dark matter by introducing a gauge singlet Dirac fermion and a real singlet scalar. The bridges between the singlet sector and the standard model sector are only the singlet scalar interaction terms with the standard model Higgs field. The singlet fermion couples to the standard model particles through the mixing between the standard model Higgs and singlet scalar and is naturally a weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP). The measured relic abundance can be explained by the singlet fermionic dark matter as the WIMP within this model. Collider implication of the singlet fermionic dark matter is also discussed. Predicted is the elastic scattering cross section of the singlet fermion into target nuclei for a direct detection of the dark matter. Search of the direct detection of the dark matter provides severe constraints on the parameters of our model.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figure

    We propose a Z2-stabilized singlino () as a dark matter candidate in extended and R-parity violating versions of the supersymmetric standard model. interacts with visible matter via a heavy messenger field S, which results in a supersymmetric version of the Higgs portal interaction. The relic abundance of can account for cold dark matter if the messenger mass satisfies GeV. Our model can be implemented in many realistic supersymmetric models such as the next-to-minimal supersymmetric (SUSY) standard model and nearly minimal SUSY standard model

    In the WIMP scenario, there is a one-to-one relation between the dark matter (DM) relic density and spin independent direct detection rate if both the annihilation of DM and its elastic scattering on nuclei go dominantly through Higgs exchange. In particular, for DM masses much smaller than the Higgs boson mass, the ratio of the relevant cross sections depends only on the DM mass. Assuming DM mass and direct detection rate within the ranges allowed by the recent DAMA collaboration results -taking account of the channelling effect on energy threshold and the null results of the other direct detection experiments- gives a definite range for the relic density. For scalar DM models, like the Higgs portal models or the inert doublet model, the relic density range turns out to be in agreement with WMAP. This scenario implies that the Higgs boson has a large branching ratio to pairs of DM particles, a prediction which might challenge its search at the LHC.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures.     Arabidopsis R2R3-MYB transcription factor AtMYB60 functions as a transcriptional repressor of anthocyanin biosynthesis in lettuce (Lactuca sativa)

    The MYB transcription factors play important roles in the regulation of many secondary metabolites at the transcriptional level. We evaluated the possible roles of the Arabidopsis R2R3-MYB transcription factors in flavonoid biosynthesis because they are induced by UV-B irradiation but their associated phenotypes are largely unexplored. We isolated their genes by RACE-PCR, and performed transgenic approach and metabolite analyses in lettuce (Lactuca sativa). We found that one member of this protein family, AtMYB60, inhibits anthocyanin biosynthesis in the lettuce plant. Wild-type lettuce normally accumulates anthocyanin, predominantly cyanidin and traces of delphinidin, and develops a red pigmentation. However, the production and accumulation of anthocyanin pigments in AtMYB60-overexpressing lettuce was inhibited. Using RT-PCR analysis, we also identified the complete absence or reduction of dihydroflavonol 4-reductase (DFR) transcripts in AtMYB60- overexpressing lettuce (AtMYB60-117 and AtMYB60-112 lines). The correlation between the overexpression of AtMYB60 and the inhibition of anthocyanin accumulation suggests that the transcription factorAtMYB60 controls anthocyanin biosynthesis in the lettuce leaf. Clarification of the roles of the AtMYB60 transcription factor will facilitate further studies and provide genetic tools to better understand the regulation in plants of the genes controlled by the MYB-type transcription factors. Furthermore, the characterization of AtMYB60 has implications for the development of new varieties of lettuce and other commercially important plants with metabolic engineering approaches

    We propose an extension of the standard model with a B–L global symmetry that is broken softly at the TeV scale. The neutrinos acquire masses through a type-II seesaw while the lepton (L) asymmetry arises in the singlet sector but without B–L-number violation. The model has the virtue that the scale of L-number violation (Λ) giving rise to neutrino masses is independent of the scale of leptogenesis (Λ'). As a result the model can explain neutrino masses, singlet scalar dark matter and leptogenesis at the TeV scale. The stability of the dark matter is ensured by a surviving Z2 symmetry, which could be lifted at the Planck scale, thereby allowing Planck scale suppressed decay of singlet scalar dark matter particles of mass 3 MeV to e+e- pairs in the Galactic halo. The model also predicts a few hundred GeV doubly charged scalar and a long-lived charged fermion, whose decay can be studied at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and International Linear Collider (ILC)
