Congenital cerebellar hypoplasia associated with BVD-MD virus infection in a naturally infected calf
The objectives of the present study were to describe pathomorphological and immunohistochemical features
of congenital cerebellar hypoplasia associated with natural BVD-MD virus infection in a Holstein-Friesian calf.
The characteristic macroscopical lesion was cerebellar hypoplasia, almost completely absent, with hydrocephaly.
Cerebellar changes were cortical destruction, destructive changes of granule and Purkinje cells and irregular
cavity formation of the folia. The positive antibody reaction against the BVD-MD virus was observed in the
CNS, but not in the eyes and peripheral nerves

Nalaz tetratiridija u peritonealnoj šupljini sijamske mačke.
Peritoneal tetrathyridiosis in a 6-year-old male Siamese cat is described. Abdominal distension and mass were determined at clinical examination. Parasitic materials, which were free in the peritoneum and attached to the inner body wall and viscera, were viewed macroscopically. Microscopically chronic multiple pyogranulomatous peritonitis, hepatitis and splenitis were observed. Parasites were identified as tetrathyridia of Mesocestoides sp., probably Mesocestoides lineatus.
An overview of anti-diabetic plants used in Gabon: Pharmacology and Toxicology
© 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.Ethnopharmacological relevance: The management of diabetes mellitus management in African communities, especially in Gabon, is not well established as more than 60% of population rely on traditional treatments as primary healthcare. The aim of this review was to collect and present the scientific evidence for the use of medicinal plants that are in currect by Gabonese traditional healers to manage diabetes or hyperglycaemia based here on the pharmacological and toxicological profiles of plants with anti-diabetic activity. There are presented in order to promote their therapeutic value, ensure a safer use by population and provide some bases for further study on high potential plants reviewed. Materials and methods: Ethnobotanical studies were sourced using databases such as Online Wiley library, Pubmed, Google Scholar, PROTA, books and unpublished data including Ph.D. and Master thesis, African and Asian journals. Keywords including ‘Diabetes’ ‘Gabon’ ‘Toxicity’ ‘Constituents’ ‘hyperglycaemia’ were used. Results: A total of 69 plants currently used in Gabon with potential anti-diabetic activity have been identified in the literature, all of which have been used in in vivo or in vitro studies. Most of the plants have been studied in human or animal models for their ability to reduce blood glucose, stimulate insulin secretion or inhibit carbohydrates enzymes. Active substances have been identified in 12 out of 69 plants outlined in this review, these include Allium cepa and Tabernanthe iboga. Only eight plants have their active substances tested for anti-diabetic activity and are suitables for further investigation. Toxicological data is scarce and is dose-related to the functional parameters of major organs such as kidney and liver. Conclusion: An in-depth understanding on the pharmacology and toxicology of Gabonese anti-diabetic plants is lacking yet there is a great scope for new treatments. With further research, the use of Gabonese anti-diabetic plants is important to ensure the safety of the diabetic patients in Gabon.Peer reviewedFinal Accepted Versio
Significant Neutrophilic Emperipolesis in Squamous Cell Carcinoma
A 53-year-old man was admitted for tooth mobility. A mass was identified at the tooth base by CT. Histopathology of the excisional biopsy revealed a moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. Many intact neutrophils were observed within the malignant cell cytoplasm. The patient underwent partial maxillectomy and bilateral neck dissection. Significant neutrophilic emperipolesis was detected in the resected material. Four tumor recurrences developed in the head and neck region during follow-up. Surgery and chemoradiotherapy was performed. The latest tumor recurrence occurred in the peripharyngeal and the posterior parotideal region. The patient was started on pembrolizumab therapy and nearly complete treatment response occurred. Pembrolizumab was discontinued due to the adrenal insufficiency and pulmonary tuberculosis that developed as a treatment side effect. Pembrolizumab was commenced again when tumor recurrence occurred. The patient is currently alive with ongoing pembrolizumab and antituberculous treatment. We present this case to remark the presence of a significant neutrophilic emperipolesis in the squamous cell carcinoma of the hard palate and maxilla which is rarely encountered. Emperipolesis may predict tumor behavior and the consequences of immune-modulating treatment response in squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck in regard to the findings of our case
Rare but lethal disease of childhood: metastatic, muscle invasive bladder cancer
Bladder cancer is the most common malignancy of urinary tract and the seventh most common cancer in men with the peak incidence in the sixth decade of life. Our knowledge about bladder tumors in pediatric age group mainly relies on case series. The reported cases are mostly low grade and non-muscle invasive. We herein present a case of a 17- year-old male with metastatic high-grade muscle-invasive bladder cancer who was presented with macroscopic hematuria and flank pain
Immunohistochemical investigation of the damage to and repair of myelin, and astrocyte activity in small ruminants resulting from with natural meningoencephalitic listeriosis
DINCEL, Gungor Cagdas/0000-0002-6985-3197WOS: 000437083800009Meningoencephalitic listeriosis is a significant bacterial disease in various species. Common characteristics include microabscesses in the brainstem, midbrain and cerebellum. Many aspects of damage to the central nervous system caused by the disease remain obscure. We investigated central nervous system damage by assessing the presence of biomarkers such as galactocerebroside (GAL-C), glial fibrilary acidic protein (GFAP) and myelin basic protein (MBP) in brain tissues of sheep and goats of various ages, which naturally infected with listeriosis. We examined sections of pons, medulla oblongata, rostral colliculus, cerebellum, thalamus and cornu ammonis and found increased MBP (P < 0.01), GAL-C (P < 0.01) and GFAP (P < 0.01) expression. Ihis studv showed that myelin damage in meningoencephalitic listeriosis was an important neuropathological finding. The most prominent finding of this study is the beginning of the regeneration as soon as myelin damage occurs
Manganese superoxide dismutase Ile58Thr, catalase C-262T and myeloperoxidase G-463A gene polymorphisms in patients with prostate cancer: relation to advanced and metastatic disease.
Objective To evaluate the relationship between manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) Ile58Thr, catalase (CAT) C-262T and myeloperoxidase (MPO) G-463A gene polymorphisms and the susceptibility and clinicopathological characteristics of prostate cancer
