    Insights into the multi-azole resistance profile in Candida haemulonii species complex

    The Candida haemulonii complex (C. duobushaemulonii, C. haemulonii, and C. haemulonii var. vulnera) is composed of emerging, opportunistic human fungal pathogens able to cause invasive infections with high rates of clinical treatment failure. This fungal complex typically demonstrates resistance to first-line antifungals, including fluconazole. In the present work, we have investigated the azole resistance mechanisms expressed in Brazilian clinical isolates forming the C. haemulonii complex. Initially, 12 isolates were subjected to an antifungal susceptibility test, and azole cross-resistance was detected in almost all isolates (91.7%). In order to understand the azole resistance mechanistic basis, the efflux pump activity was assessed by rhodamine-6G. The C. haemulonii complex exhibited a significantly higher rhodamine-6G efflux than the other non-albicans Candida species tested (C. tropicalis, C. krusei, and C. lusitaneae). Notably, the efflux pump inhibitors (Phe-Arg and FK506) reversed the fluconazole and voricolazole resistance phenotypes in the C. haemulonii species complex. Expression analysis indicated that the efflux pump (ChCDR1, ChCDR2, and ChMDR1) and ERG11 genes were not modulated by either fluconazole or voriconazole treatments. Further, ERG11 gene sequencing revealed several mutations, some of which culminated in amino acid polymorphisms, as previously reported in azole-resistant Candida spp. Collectively, these data point out the relevance of drug efflux pumps in mediating azole resistance in the C. haemulonii complex, and mutations in ERG11p may contribute to this resistance profile

    A literatura é essencial à educação, uma vez que ela permite uma experiência inigualável em que emoção e razão se misturam no prazer. Por essas razões, a presente pesquisa tem por objetivo principal refletir sobre a sala de leitura no contexto escolar, na perspectiva do desenvolvimento de competências e da integração da comunidade escolar. Por esse motivo é importante que a escola disponibilize um espaço privilegiado para promover e estimular momentos de leitura por parte dos alunos, a sala de leitura. Para composição da mesma foi adotado como metodologia na linha da pesquisa qualitativa, de cunho bibliográfico, onde procuramos confrontar a teoria com a prática. O questionário e a observação foram os instrumentos utilizados para coletas de dados. A análise dos dados coletados revelou que apenas 30% de dez escolas pesquisadas dispõem de professores que atuam em salas de leitura e desenvolvem projetos, a fim de promover e estimular a leitura entre os alunos. Conclui-se a partir da pesquisa que a educação não prioriza a formação de leitores, entretanto, é importante tomar iniciativas, apesar de ainda não haver uma cultura que extrapole a visão simplista de educação e de que a aprendizagem não ocorre apenas na sala de aula. É necessário repensar sobre o papel da biblioteca escolar, ampliando as possibilidades de trabalho em seu espaço, além de facilitar e promover o acesso de pais, alunos, professores e comunidade local, bem como envolvê-los nos projetos e organização da mesma

    Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear un derstanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4 While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5–7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8–11 In the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world’s most diverse rainforest and the primary source of Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepre sented in biodiversity databases.13–15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may elim inate pieces of the Amazon’s biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological com munities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple or ganism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian Amazonia, while identifying the region’s vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most ne glected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by 2050.     Risk portfolio on modern finance has become increasingly technical, requiring the use of sophisticated mathematical tools in both research and practice. Since companies cannot insure themselves completely against risk, as human incompetence in predicting the future precisely that written in Al-Quran surah Luqman verse 34, they have to manage it to yield an optimal portfolio. The objective here is to minimize the variance among all portfolios, or alternatively, to maximize expected return among all portfolios that has at least a certain expected return. Furthermore, this study focuses on optimizing risk portfolio so called Markowitz MVO (Mean-Variance Optimization). Some theoretical frameworks for analysis are arithmetic mean, geometric mean, variance, covariance, linear programming, and quadratic programming. Moreover, finding a minimum variance portfolio produces a convex quadratic programming, that is minimizing the objective function ðð¥with constraintsð ð 𥠥 ðandð´ð¥ = ð. The outcome of this research is the solution of optimal risk portofolio in some investments that could be finished smoothly using MATLAB R2007b software together with its graphic analysis

    Measurement of the top quark forward-backward production asymmetry and the anomalous chromoelectric and chromomagnetic moments in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV

    Abstract The parton-level top quark (t) forward-backward asymmetry and the anomalous chromoelectric (d̂ t) and chromomagnetic (μ̂ t) moments have been measured using LHC pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected in the CMS detector in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The linearized variable AFB(1) is used to approximate the asymmetry. Candidate t t ¯ events decaying to a muon or electron and jets in final states with low and high Lorentz boosts are selected and reconstructed using a fit of the kinematic distributions of the decay products to those expected for t t ¯ final states. The values found for the parameters are AFB(1)=0.048−0.087+0.095(stat)−0.029+0.020(syst),μ̂t=−0.024−0.009+0.013(stat)−0.011+0.016(syst), and a limit is placed on the magnitude of | d̂ t| < 0.03 at 95% confidence level.     Measurement of the azimuthal anisotropy of Y(1S) and Y(2S) mesons in PbPb collisions at root s(NN)=5.02 TeV

    The second-order Fourier coefficients (v(2)) characterizing the azimuthal distributions of Y(1S) and Y(2S) mesons produced in PbPb collisions at root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV are studied. The Y mesons are reconstructed in their dimuon decay channel, as measured by the CMS detector. The collected data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 nb(-1). The scalar product method is used to extract the v2 coefficients of the azimuthal distributions. Results are reported for the rapidity range vertical bar y vertical bar < 2.4, in the transverse momentum interval 0 < pT < 50 GeV/c, and in three centrality ranges of 10-30%, 30-50% and 50-90%. In contrast to the J/psi mesons, the measured v(2) values for the Y mesons are found to be consistent with zero. (C) 2021 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier B.V.Peer reviewe
