    Breast cancer nutritional chemistry cachexia oncology – A clinical trials perspective

    1369-1371Breast cancer is the second largest killer disease among women globally. Annually approximately 48,000 women die of breast cancer. Breast cancer patients are at high risk of developing malnutrition from the underlying disease as well as from various drug regimen, chemotherapy and or radiotherapy interventions. As we work for personalized medicine for breast cancer, a personalized nutrition for breast cancer patients is much needed for their wellbeing both physiologically and psychologically. Most rather than all, of the treatment regimens possesses a concourse of side effects. An effective personalized nutritional therapy during and after cancer treatment leads to better quality of life for the breast cancer patients. Clinical trials are pivotal for any recommendations to be used at the commercial level upon approval of Food & Drug Administration. Several clinical trials have been carried out and many are now undertaken to come up with a significant upshot conclusion based on primary and secondary outcomes to show the after effects of particular nutrient supplements by increasing the overall survival or any other physiological upregulated / downregulated manifestation leading for a disease free survival. Docosahexaenoic acid and glutamine nutritional supplement has been reported to have beneficial effect for breast cancer patients in different clinical trials

    Nutrient analysis of Kunapa jala and Pancha gavya and their evaluation on germination of Ashwagandha and Kalamegha seeds: A comparative study

    Background: Vrikshayurveda, an ancient science of plant life described by Surapala, deals with healthy growth and productivity of plants, which has clearly outlined a systematized agricultural practice that insisted the use of Kunapa jala (KJ) and Pancha gavya (PG). Objective: An experiment was conducted to validate KJ and PG by nutrient analysis and their effect on the germination parameters of Ashwagandha and Kalamegha seeds in comparison with other treatment groups. Materials and methods: KJ and PG were prepared according to the classical references. The nutrient contents and germination parameters of KJ and PG were compared with other groups namely control (Contr), farmyard manure (FYM), humic acid (HA) and NPK. Results: The pH and EC were 5.793, 2.653 dS/m and 5.584, 2.216 dS/m for KJ and PG respectively. KJ possess highest nutrient contents followed by PG. The germination parameters revealed the better activity of NPK followed by KJ, PG, HA, FYM and Contr. Conclusion: KJ and PG were found to be good in nutrient contents and were found to be effective on studied germination parameters of Ashwagandha and Kalamegha seeds.     The methyltransferase Setdb2 mediates virus-induced susceptibility to bacterial superinfection

    Immune responses are tightly regulated to ensure efficient pathogen clearance while avoiding tissue damage. Here we report that SET domain bifurcated 2 (Setdb2) was the only protein lysine methyltransferase induced during influenza virus infection. Setdb2 expression depended on type-I interferon signaling and it repressed the expression of the neutrophil attractant Cxcl1 and other NF-κB target genes. This coincided with Setdb2 occupancy at the Cxcl1 promoter, which in the absence of Setdb2 displayed reduced H3K9 tri-methylation. Setdb2 hypomorphic gene-trap mice exhibited increased neutrophil infiltration in sterile lung inflammation and were less sensitive to bacterial superinfection upon influenza virus infection. This suggests that a Setdb2-mediated regulatory crosstalk between the type-I interferon and NF-κB pathways represents an important mechanism for virus-induced susceptibility to bacterial superinfection
