    The Effect of Chlorine Concentration on the Optical Constants of SnS Thin Films

    Chlorine doped SnS have been prepared utilizing chemical spray pyrolysis. The effects of chlorine concentration on the optical constants were studied. It was seen that the transmittance decreased with doping, while reflectance, refractive index, extinction coefficient, real and imaginary parts of dielectric constant were increased as the doping percentage increased. The results show also that the skin depth decrease as the chlorine percentage increased which could be assure that it is transmittance related

    يرمي البحث إلى معرفة مضامين التغطية المصورة لكأس الخليج (خليجي 25) في صفحات المصورين الصحفيين العراقيين على تطبيق انستغرام للمدة من 2023/1/2 ولغاية 2023/1/27؛ وذلك عن طريق استخدام استمارة "تحليل المضمون"، واتبعت الباحثتان المنهج المسحي، إذ تم إجراء مسح شامل لـ (674) صورة رقمية موزعة في صفحات الانستغرام الخاصة بـ (7) مصورين صحفيين اهتموا بتغطية هذا الحدث الرياضي الذي اختتم بفوز المنتخب العراقي على أراض مدينة البصرة العراقية. وتوصل البحث الى أهم النتائج منها حصول فئة "صور من مباريات كأس الخليج" على المرتبة الأولى بتكرار مقداره (291) وبنسبة مئوية مقدارها (42.794%) واهتمام المصورين بالتقاط صورًا للجماهير التي حضرت البطولة فضلًا عن تغطية الاحتفالات المقامة على هامش بطولة كأس الخليج. وبالرغم من الحضور المتميز للأطفال المصابين بالسرطان وذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة بكأس الخليج إلا أن الباحثتين وجدتا أن المصورين ركزوا بشكل قليل على تصوير هذه الشريحة من المجتمع

    Integrating Complementary and Alternative Medicine into Family Medicine Practice: Narrative Review

    Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) has witnessed a significant surge in usage across various populations and regions in recent decades. This review article delves into the prevalence and patterns of CAM usage, from cancer patients to cultural practices in Saudi Arabia and New Zealand. In Saudi Arabia, CAM practices, especially spiritual ones like prayer and reciting the Quran, are widely adopted, with herbs, honey, and dietary products also being popular. New Zealand healthcare professionals, including general practitioners and midwives, generally hold a positive view towards CAM, with acupuncture being particularly favored. However, concerns about CAM's scientific evidence, safety, and costs persist. In the U.S., while CAM is popular, many family physicians feel inadequately trained to address CAM-related patient queries. In Germany, a significant number of family physicians use CAM in their practices, emphasizing the need for increased CAM education and research. The data underscores the global trend of CAM adoption and the need for its effective integration into mainstream healthcare. Despite its popularity, the integration of CAM in medical education remains limited in many regions, including Saudi Arabia. However, there's a noticeable shift with some medical schools beginning to incorporate CAM into their curriculum. The article underscores the importance of evidence-based practice, education, training, open communication, regulation, interdisciplinary collaboration, a patient-centered approach, thorough documentation, continuous research, cultural sensitivity, and cost-effectiveness evaluation when considering the integration of CAM into mainstream healthcare. The recommendations provided aim to ensure that patients receive holistic care that is both safe and effective. The overarching theme is the need for a balanced, informed, and collaborative approach to integrating CAM into family medicine practice

    Evaluation of the performance of elastomeric pumps in practice : are we under delivering on chemotherapy treatments?

    Background and aims: Elastomeric pumps are widely used to facilitate ambulatory chemotherapy, and studies have shown that they are safe and well received by patients. Despite these advantages, their end of infusion time can fluctuate significantly. The aim of this research was to observe the performance of these pumps in real practice and to evaluate patients' satisfaction. Methods: This was a two-phase study conducted at three cancer units over 6 months. Phase-1 was an observational study recording the status of pumps at the scheduled disconnection time and noting remaining volume of infusion. Phase-2 was a survey of patients and their perception/satisfaction. Ethical approval was granted. Results: A total of 92 cases were observed covering 50 cases disconnected at hospital and 42 disconnected at home. The infusion in 40% of hospital disconnection cases was slow, with patients arriving at hospital with unfinished pumps; 58% of these had an estimated remaining volume which exceeded 10 mL with 35% exceeded 20 mL. In 73% of these cases, and regardless of the remaining volume, the patient was disconnected and the pump was discarded. Conclusions: The performance of pumps varied, which affected nurse workload and patients' waiting-times. A smart system is an option to monitor the performance of pumps and to predict their accuracy

    Association between Serum Vitamin B12 Concentration and Obesity Among Adults in The Ksa

    Objective: To investigate the relationship between serum vitamin B12 levels and weight among the adult population in KSA. Methods: This research will employ a cross-sectional study design to investigate the association between serum vitamin B12 concentration and obesity among adults in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). Cross-sectional studies are suitable for examining relationships between variables within a specific population at a single point in time. The target population for this study includes all adult residents of the KSA aged 18 years and older. Results: The study included 869 participants. The most frequent weight among them was 51-65 kg (n= 255, 29.3%), followed by 66 -75 kg (n= 214, 24.6%). The most frequent height among study participants was 161-170 cm (n= 324, 37.3%) followed by 151-160 cm (n= 266, 30.6%). The most frequent body mass index (BMI) value among study participants was Normal 18.5-24.9 kg/m2 (n= 344, 39.6%), followed by overweight 25-29.9 kg/m2 (n= 281, 32.3%).  Vitamin B12 varied among study participants, with most of them having a normal range (n= 319, 36.7%) followed by a low range (n= 117, 13.5%) and the least common high range (n= 23, 2.6%). On the other hand, among 410 participants, 47.2% did not know their vitamin B12 value. Wech may indicate a lack of knowledge about the topic. Figure 4 shows the vitamin B12 levels among study participants. Conclusion: Study results showed that most of the study participants do not know their vitamin B12 level and need to increase awareness, followed by those who have a normal vitamin B12 level. The most common BMI was the normal level. There was a relationship between vitamin B12 levels and obesity.

    A Role of Therapy that Targets Immune Checkpoint Proteins for the Treatment of Melanoma Brain Metastasis, Liver, Breast, Pancreatic Cancer and Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma

    Checkpoint inhibitors are a type of immune therapy used to treat different types of cancers. These drugs block different checkpoint proteins, for example, CTLA-4, PD-1, and PD-L1 inhibitors. They block proteins that stop the immune system from attacking the cancer cells.  Checkpoints are also described as a type of monoclonal antibody that antagonizes binding between B7 to CTLA-4 and PD-L1 to PD-1.  Immune checkpoint inhibitors are used to treat BARCA mutated triple-negative breast cancer (TNBCS) in patients who do not respond to chemotherapy, and also in the treatment of highly mutated and solid tumors such as brain tumors, liver, and pancreatic cancers. Immune checkpoint inhibitors exhibit an effect on solid tumors by suppressing CTLA-4, PD-1, and PDL-1. Anti-PD-1 is less toxic than anti-CTLA-4. For melanoma Brain metastasis immune checkpoint therapy is more effective and Combination therapy has great efficacy and less toxicity which improves overall survival rather than individual therapy liver cancer as hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma used treatment with Genetics based therapy while using alternative immune checkpoint ligands, co-inhibitory (eg. LAG-3) or decreased t-cell infiltration causing therapy failure. Clinical studies for pancreatic cancer have not been completed yet and treating PDA needs more research as immune checkpoint inhibitors is a new treatment against  PDA. A new potent class of nivolumab, pembrolizumab, and ipilimumab have been FDA approved. For mutated tumors, Combination therapy between checkpoint inhibitors and chemotherapy has great efficacy and improves the city of life and overall survival, rather than individual therapy when using radiation or chemotherapy alone

    Antimicrobial resistance among migrants in Europe: a systematic review and meta-analysis

    BACKGROUND: Rates of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) are rising globally and there is concern that increased migration is contributing to the burden of antibiotic resistance in Europe. However, the effect of migration on the burden of AMR in Europe has not yet been comprehensively examined. Therefore, we did a systematic review and meta-analysis to identify and synthesise data for AMR carriage or infection in migrants to Europe to examine differences in patterns of AMR across migrant groups and in different settings. METHODS: For this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched MEDLINE, Embase, PubMed, and Scopus with no language restrictions from Jan 1, 2000, to Jan 18, 2017, for primary data from observational studies reporting antibacterial resistance in common bacterial pathogens among migrants to 21 European Union-15 and European Economic Area countries. To be eligible for inclusion, studies had to report data on carriage or infection with laboratory-confirmed antibiotic-resistant organisms in migrant populations. We extracted data from eligible studies and assessed quality using piloted, standardised forms. We did not examine drug resistance in tuberculosis and excluded articles solely reporting on this parameter. We also excluded articles in which migrant status was determined by ethnicity, country of birth of participants' parents, or was not defined, and articles in which data were not disaggregated by migrant status. Outcomes were carriage of or infection with antibiotic-resistant organisms. We used random-effects models to calculate the pooled prevalence of each outcome. The study protocol is registered with PROSPERO, number CRD42016043681. FINDINGS: We identified 2274 articles, of which 23 observational studies reporting on antibiotic resistance in 2319 migrants were included. The pooled prevalence of any AMR carriage or AMR infection in migrants was 25·4% (95% CI 19·1-31·8; I2 =98%), including meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (7·8%, 4·8-10·7; I2 =92%) and antibiotic-resistant Gram-negative bacteria (27·2%, 17·6-36·8; I2 =94%). The pooled prevalence of any AMR carriage or infection was higher in refugees and asylum seekers (33·0%, 18·3-47·6; I2 =98%) than in other migrant groups (6·6%, 1·8-11·3; I2 =92%). The pooled prevalence of antibiotic-resistant organisms was slightly higher in high-migrant community settings (33·1%, 11·1-55·1; I2 =96%) than in migrants in hospitals (24·3%, 16·1-32·6; I2 =98%). We did not find evidence of high rates of transmission of AMR from migrant to host populations. INTERPRETATION: Migrants are exposed to conditions favouring the emergence of drug resistance during transit and in host countries in Europe. Increased antibiotic resistance among refugees and asylum seekers and in high-migrant community settings (such as refugee camps and detention facilities) highlights the need for improved living conditions, access to health care, and initiatives to facilitate detection of and appropriate high-quality treatment for antibiotic-resistant infections during transit and in host countries. Protocols for the prevention and control of infection and for antibiotic surveillance need to be integrated in all aspects of health care, which should be accessible for all migrant groups, and should target determinants of AMR before, during, and after migration.
